Lizard swaps the sunshine state for Inverness after hitching 4,200-mile ride
A lizard is settling in to a new home in Inverness after hitching a 4,200-mile ride from Florida in a family's holiday suitcase.
The reptile was discovered by Siouxsie Mackenzie on Sunday after returning to Ferryhill, Aberdeen, from a holiday in the US state with her partner and eight-year-old daughter.
Ms Mackenzie was emptying suitcases and preparing a washing when she noticed the brown anole lizard.
She said her daughter wanted to keep the lizard but they nicknamed him "Flo Rida" and decided to take him to the Scottish SPCA as he is a wild animal.
The animal charity took Flo Rida to its Aberdeenshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Drumoak and the lizard was quickly offered a new home by Nick Martin, who has an exotic animal rescue charity in Inverness.
Ms Mackenzie said: "I recently got back from Florida with my partner and eight-year-old daughter, so the lizard must have jumped in one of our suitcases as we were packing.
"I was emptying the cases and preparing to do a washing when I spotted him sitting on the bathroom floor.
"He is quite cute-looking and didn't scare us. My daughter was even quite keen for us to keep him but we understand this isn't possible as he is a wild animal and we are glad he has found a home with someone who knows how to look after him."
Flo Rida has certainly landed on his scales - though he's probably somewhat bemused......

Incredible story of Polish Army hero Wojtek the bear
He was the largest and undoubtedly most intimidating fighting force of the Polish Army.
Standing at 8ft, he headed into parts of the frontline where even the most hardened squaddie would not dare tread, transporting vital artillery boxes to his grateful comrades.
Sure when it came to his downtime, he enjoyed a beer and a ciggie as much as anyone, but in battle he was focused, reliable and, above all, incredibly brave.
His name was Wojtek, and he was the Polish army’s secret weapon.
The story of the soldier bear who would ultimately end up as an Edinburgh Zoo attraction has come to prominence in recent years as a campaign was launched to honour this overlooked war hero. That successful campaign culminates on Saturday when a new statue of Wojtek is unveiled in Princes Street Gardens, ensuring the story of his extraordinary endeavours will live on for future generations.

So sweet - and I can actually imagine myself doing something like making a hole in the front door so the lonely pony can sit in the living room.

Look what turned up in Ayrshire:

You can just imagine the poor thing going, WTF? What is this dreadful cold place? I'm supposed to be on a Spanish beach.......
He's getting to finish his journey in comfort, though...
"This turtle should have been on his way to Spain where it's warmer but I think he may have stayed here due to the milder weather, however Storm Desmond has caught him out and brought him inland.
"There were a lot of crustaceans on the turtle which would have weighed him down, making it more difficult to swim in the strong currents.
"Quite a crowd gathered to witness this unusual event and we'd like to thank the local volunteer from British Divers Marine Life Rescue, members of the public and bike race stewards who helped move the turtle off the beach.
"Once he is fit enough to fend for himself, he will be flown to Gran Canaria and released back into the wild."

“It was an incredible sight. You get the odd squirrel around here, but never a reindeer.”
No, they're not really native to Nottingham....
All seems to have ended well, with Rudolph reunited with Tesco Santa....
