France's PM warns that the passport-free Schengen zone is at risk as EU ministers meet in Brussels a week after the Paris attacks.

Some of the Paris attackers exploited Europe's refugee crisis to "slip in" to France unnoticed, the country's prime minister has said.

Manuel Valls said the passport-free Schengen zone is at risk if Europe fails to "take responsibility" over border controls.

The warning came as EU ministers gathered in Brussels today for an emergency security summit where they are expected to strengthen checks on travellers at the borders of the 26-nation bloc....etc.

Of course they were free to travel unchecked over Europe - too many people are more afraid of being called 'islamophobic' or 'racist' than they are of using a bit of common sense.

Sweden’s prime minister has admitted his country has been “naive” about Islamist extremism even as it expects to receive a record number of refugees this year.
Stefan Löfven told a hastily called press conference on Thursday that both the previous centre-right government and his Social Democrat administration have misjudged the threat and that Sweden would now have to step up its security measures.

Lesbos (Greece) (AFP) - As the hunt for jihadists widens after last week's Paris attacks, authorities in Greece warn it was virtually impossible to pick out dangerous extremists among arriving migrants, without prior intelligence.


"If they are not already registered in the database, it's nearly impossible," says Dimitris Amountzias, police captain in charge of Moria, Greece's main registration camp on the island of Lesbos.

At the camp, dozens of migrants and refugees queue to give their fingerprints, have a photo taken and be quizzed by agents from European border agency Frontex.

It's a seemingly detailed security check, but jihadists have already proven they can bypass it with ease.

The suspected architect of the Paris attacks that killed 130 people, 28-year-old Abdelhamid Abaaoud, escaped from Europe to Syria and returned without being detected....etc.

Migrants who have been blocked at the border between Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) for three days, protested Saturday against being prevented from entering FYROM after new restrictions were imposed, an AFP journalist said.

Many of the migrants, who are stuck on the Greek side of the border at Idomeni, are from Iran, Pakistan and Bangladesh, and are angry after Serbia and FYROM decided to only allow passage to people fleeing conflict zones.

More than 1,000 people of different nationalities were at the border crossing, called Gevgelija in FYROM, on Saturday. Some carried banners calling for the border to be opened, while others read "We are sorry for France but we are not dangerous," in an apparent reference to some of the suspects in last week's Paris attacks having used Europe's migrant crisis to slip into the continent.

The protest comes a day after migrants sat on railway tracks hampering trains between Greece and FYROM.

Greece's alternate migration minister, Yiannis Mouzalas, went to Idomeni on Saturday for talks with local officials on the situation.

Hundreds of thousands of migrants fleeing conflict and poverty have traveled to Greece and up through the Balkans this year, aiming to start new lives in more prosperous northern European countries.

But on Thursday countries along the migrant route began tightening restrictions by accepting only those fleeing war, causing a backlog of hundreds of people.

EXCLUSIVE: Paris attacker welcomed ashore in Greece and given help and clothes by French volunteers

A PARIS suicide bomber was helped on to a Greek island and clothed by French volunteers before making his way through Europe to his target, it emerged yesterday.

The IS fanatic, known as Ahmad Almohammad from a fake Syrian passport found at Stade De France, had sailed to Leros with a group of English-speaking pals.

Officials said they were helped ashore with nearly 200 refugees after deliberately driving a knife through their boat as they neared land on October 3. Two were then discovered with fake Syrian passports and arrested.

But Almohammad, 25, was ushered through and moved to a camp staffed by French charity Médecins Sans Frontières.

Less than 24 hours later, in a black tracksuit given to him by the volunteers, he was in a group of six buying tickets to Athens.

Travel agent Dimitris Kastis, 42, recalled: “One of his pals who spoke English ordered the tickets. When I heard about him I was very surprised. He didn’t look suspicious.”

Almohammad took the ten-hour boat trip to Athens on October 5.

Police say he spent two days there before heading through Macedonia to request asylum in Serbia.

He entered Croatia on October 8 and made his way to France where he is thought to have blown himself up outside the France-Germany match.

Leros harbourmaster Sakellarios Biliris remembered his group sabotaging their boat.

He said: “No one saw anything wrong with his passport. The situation was chaotic. One week 3,500 refugees came here.”

A man has admitted posting online messages in support of the so-called Islamic State (IS) and their terrorist acts.

Algerian citizen Mourad Mosdefaoui, 34, who is thought to have entered the UK in 2008, put three such posts on social networking site Facebook from September 2014 to March 2015.

In one, he is shown in a photograph to be holding a notepad with Arabic text, translated as: "The Islamic State will remain and expand God willing."

In another, he wrote he was troubled to be "living in a country of blasphemy" and appeared to suggest he would be willing to fight in Iraq and Syria.

Officials later found more than 11,000 images on a mobile phone in his possession, a number of which were said to depict imagery and propaganda associated with IS, including images appearing to show a beheading carried out by the man known as Jihadi John.

A search of Mosdefaoui's Edinburgh flat this summer also uncovered a forged Belgian identity card, which he admitted owning in order to find work in the UK.

Details of the offences were revealed at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today, where Mosdefaoui pleaded guilty to two charges - one under the Terrorism Act 2006 and one under the 2010 Identity Documents Act.

Sentencing was deferred until next month.....etc.
