The Greek government is yet to make a plan on what to do with the hundreds of migrants and refugees that were sent back to the Greek capital from the Greece – F.Y.R.O.M. borders in Idomeni. In fact, the Greek authorities seem to have lost control of the situation, while the migrants are forming gangs, often terrorizing others.

The gangs are reported extorting and exploiting their fellow migrants and refugees who are unprotected and vulnerable. The gangs are also causing damage to public property.

Tension also broke in Victoria when Pakistani nationals clashed and caused damage to shops. Local residents called the police who arrived at the scene and broke off the fight without making any arrests.

I expect the 'refugees' all looked sad, or their feelings had been hurt, or something.

Elsewhere in Germany, anti-migrant sentiment is becoming readily observable. As Deutsche Welle goes on to report, "asylum seekers arriving at new container-style shelter in Saxony's town of Jahnsdorf were confronted by 30 people including six persons who threw stones and explosive crackers at their bus," on Thursday, the same day that the "children of refugee families were attacked by fellow school pupils in the town of Wurzen near Leipzig."

Because we couldn't imagine a more accurate way to describe the situation (and indeed we've been saying this for months), we'll simply close by quoting Aydan Özoguz, from the German government's commission for the integration of foreigners, who says he fears the country is descending into a "xenophobic abyss."

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — The latest developments as tens of thousands of people make their way to Europe and across the continent, seeking safety and a better life.

6:05 p.m. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban lashed out at EU leaders who reject his call to keep migrants out of the bloc, which he described as "weak, unsure and powerless." Orban told delegates at the ruling party Fidesz' congress on Sunday that the "continent looks like a battlefield and the worse is yet to come. How many more will hit the road, heading for Europe? I believe it's millions, or tens of millions."

Hundreds of thousands of people fleeing war and poverty have arrived in Europe this year. Hungary erected a fence at its border with Serbia, and since September has effectively shut its doors to new arrivals.

On Sunday, Orban was re-elected as president of Fidesz with a landslide victory: out of 1,177 party delegates, 1,174 voted him as president again.

Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Sunday she wanted to "drastically decrease" the number of refugees coming to Germany, signaling a compromise to critics of her open-door policy from within her conservatives on the eve of a party congress.

Merkel has resisted pressure from allies within her Christian Democratic Union (CDU) to put a cap on the number of refugees entering Germany, which is expected to top 1 million this year.

"At the same time we took on board the concerns of the people, who are worried about the future, and this means we want to reduce, we want to drastically decrease the number of people coming to us," Merkel told broadcaster ARD.

Merkel, whose popularity has fallen over her handling of the refugee crisis, said the word "limit" did not feature in the CDU's main resolution which will be debated at the two-day party congress starting on Monday in the southern city of Karlsruhe.

The chancellor added there was broad support in the CDU for her strategy to reduce the numbers.

This included working with Turkey to fight traffickers, improving the situation at Syrian refugee camps in Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan, and strengthening control of the European Union's outer borders.

Merkel's conservative critics want her to get the number of arrivals down before three state elections in March and say her hopes of running for a fourth term in 2017 would be in danger.

Her strategy also includes finding a solution to the migration crisis on the EU level, where she is meeting resistance from member states opposed to a quota system to distribute refugees.

Her critics say her decision in late August to allow Syrian asylum seekers to remain in Germany regardless which EU country they had first entered had accelerated the influx of migrants.

Sadly, it's inevitable that there will be yet another jihadist atrocity sooner or later, Lily - and I shudder to think how people are going to react.

IMO, by trying to clamp down on any discussion about people's fears, the elites are making matters worse, not better, in the long run. But not admitting that there is a problem, by shrieking Raycist! Islamophobic! at anyone opposed to mass, uncontrolled immigration, just about guarantees all Hell is going to break loose eventually.

The EU has unveiled plans for a new border force with a "right to intervene" without a country's consent.

The 1,500-strong unit would step in when countries failed to control their borders, when they were overwhelmed or when they were simply "unwilling" to act.

Its possible creation comes as one million mainly Syrian refugees and migrants are expected to arrive in the EU this year.

European Commission vice-president Frans Timmermans said the migrant crisis had "exposed clear weaknesses and gaps in existing mechanisms".

"Therefore, it is now time to move to a truly integrated system of border management," he said.

Mr Timmermans stressed that the force, which will replace the maligned Frontex agency, would be used only in "exceptional situations".

Although the UK is not part of the passport-free Schengen zone where the guards will operate, it is being reported that Britain will contribute to the force.

UKIP has described the idea as a "full-frontal attack on national sovereignty", while Polish foreign minister Witold Waszczykowski said having a force independent of member states would be "shocking".

Under the blueprint, the agency will be able to carry out surveillance operations alongside the European Fisheries Control Agency and European Maritime Safety Agency.

Two men were arrested on Tuesday after attempting to disarm soldiers outside a cathedral in Rome.

The men, from Tunisia and Palestine and homeless in Rome, allegedly tried to snatch the soldiers’ machine guns outside Santa Maria Maggiore cathedral, while shouting “Allah (God) is great”, Il Messaggero reported.

The soldiers were among the hundreds deployed to patrol the capital in the wake of the Paris terrorist attacks in November.

The men, aged 30 and 40, also tried to canvass the help of others in their quest to disarm the officers.

They were arrested and taken to a police station, where they are said to have spoken out against law enforcement and Europe, in both Italian and Arabic.

It was also revealed that previous deportation orders had been issued to them both.

The pair were charged with resisting and threatening an officer, as well as incitement to commit a crime for terrorism purposes.

They were given another deportation order and sent to a refugee centre near Bari while they await expulsion from Italy.

Anti-asylum seekers protest in the Netherlands turns violent

A protest against a center for asylum seekers in the Netherlands has turned violent after protesters stormed a municipal hall where a meeting was underway. (more)

The municipal council in Geldermalsen, about 60 kilometers (37 miles) southeast of Amsterdam, was meeting on Wednesday night to discuss a proposal to accommodate 1,500 asylum seekers at a local center for a period of 10 years. It would make it the country's third largest asylum seekers center.

The situation had been deteriorating throughout the evening, with heavy fireworks being thrown at the municipal building. It escalated at about 8:30 p.m. when a group of protesters stormed the building, forcing those inside to be evacuated to the upper floors.

"Everyone in the municipal hall is safe. And then people say they are afraid of asylum seekers. I'm extremely sad," Geldermalsen mayor Miranda de Vries said on Twitter, adding later that the meeting would not resume on Wednesday night.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that warning shots had been fired and that at least one person had been arrested.
