Debrecen refugee camp closed down after twenty years

The refugee reception centre in Debrecen in eastern Hungary was officially closed down on Wednesday after providing shelter to refugees for twenty years. Authorities placed a “Closed” sign on the gate of the reception centre thus officially and symbolically closing down the camp. Lajos Kósa, parliamentary group leader for the Fidesz party and the city’s former mayor, said that over the past years Debrecen had demonstrated solidarity and humanity by welcoming refugees, but it was time to close the camp. “This is a time when Europe must protect its borders instead of setting up camps,” he said.

Debrecen Mayor László Papp of Fidesz thanked the government for its “consistent migration policy”, which allowed for the refugee camp – which he said constituted a security risk for the city – to be closed down. Interior Ministry state secretary Károly Kontrát noted that the refugee camp welcomed a total of 73,000 people over its years of operation. At the beginning, most refugees came from ex-Yugoslav countries while later on the camp mostly gave shelter to Afghan, Iraqi, Syrian and Kosovar refugees.The government made the decision to close down the camp in October this year.

Debrecen is Hungary's second largest city after the capital, Budapest. It is also the gloomiest!! I went there a few years back and it reminded me of East Berlin when the Soviets were in charge. Not been back since and have no intention of ever visiting it again. LL

Just looked at pics of the town, LL. Some bits do look nice, but there does seem to be rather a lot of Soviet concrete.

I blame Merkel and the Europhiles for this - there has been little or no proper consultation with local people, no explanation of just who is coming into their towns and villages, nothing. Just this stupid, hug a jihadist, hopey changey feelgood bollox - which is all but compulsory. And anyone that has pointed out that there may be problems has been howled down as a Raycist! Islamophobe!

It's a recipe for simmering resentment and disaster, IMO.

HUNDREDS of Calais migrants "armed with iron bars and hammers" have stormed an area around the Channel Tunnel in a bid to reach Britain, according to reports on social media.

Locals in the lawless port town went online this afternoon to report that a number of migrants brought traffic to a standstill and are storming the entrance to the tunnel.

Squadrons of French riot police, known as the CRS, are apparently at the scene and there were reports of violent clashes in the streets.

Locals with the Angry Calaisiens group, which is campaigning to restore order in the town, reported that a group of migrants were "running around" outside a supermarket armed with "iron bars, stones and hammers".

In a series of worrying posts the group, which has more than 33,000 followers, they wrote: "WARNING! There are reports from reliable sources that a group of six or seven migrants are running around with iron bars, stones and hammers near Leader Price.

They then added: "A tunnel attack is under way! Be careful if you go in this area, especially avenue Roger Salengro, where groups of 50-60 migrants have been spotted.

"Also according to reliable sources, a hundred migrants all heading for the channel! Be on your guard! The police are arriving on the scene with their riot equipment!"

A spokeswoman for Eurostar confirmed that its services have not been affected by the ongoing chaos.

Several videos emerged on social media showing migrants bringing traffic to a standstill in and around the port to Calais.

Sophie Lesuisse wrote on Facebook: "They are everywhere…the entrance to the tunnel and the highway closed to the city.

Marine Canu replied: "Yes it's heated, I just passed this driving. It's super scary!"

Meanwhile Choubibi Bidoubidou added: "I just found myself in the middle of the full onslaught of hundreds of migrants on the A16.

"Clashes also with CRS [French riot police] and tear gas. Very, very dangerous - take care."

Geoffroy Deffrennes ‏tweeted: "A16 closed between Coquelles and Calais. Police everywhere. Migrants are invading the tunnel." Calais

Meanwhile Shane Ware wrote: "Eurotunnel is like a war zone - police firing tear-gas at immigrants."

More than 7,000 migrants are now living in the Jungle camp on the outskirts of Calais, with many becoming involved in violent clashes with police and truckers as they make desperate nightly bids to reach Britain.

Terrified truckers have warned that somebody could soon be killed if more is not done to resolve the situation, with more and more migrants arming themselves out of desperation.

Britain has paid £7 million towards security in Calais and recently built huge new razorwire fences around the port and Channel Tunnel entrances in a bid to keep migrants out.

I would suggest sending in the French Foreign Legion - or the Ghurkas - with full permission to shoot to kill and use sharp weapons, but that would probably be waycist. Pcorneater

It's going to end very badly indeed, IMO, Lily.

I read an interesting piece the other day - I forgot to bookmark it, unfortunately. It made the point that people of different ethnicities can settle down and rub along together, but people from hugely different cultures can't.

All but the most moderate interpretations of islam are in complete conflict with Western democracy and values, and it is purblind stupidity to pretend otherwise.

Leading politicians of the ruling coalition in Germany have demanded case-by-case reviews of Syrian migrants entering the country. The call comes after media reported that the IS had stolen thousands of Syrian passports.

Europe needed a quick and seamless registration procedure for refugees, Ansgar Heveling, chief of the Commission for Internal Affairs in the German parliament told German media. Authorities also needed to introduce individual checks for Syrian refugees "as soon as possible."
"If documents are not of much help, inconsistencies can be noticed while speaking to the individual asylum seeker," Heveling, a member of Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Party (CDU), told reporters.
Social Democrat Burkhard Lischka also said a case-by-case review of people fleeing from Syria was very important. European security agencies also needed to "communicate the serial numbers of the stolen passports as soon as possible," Lischka said, referring to a report in the German weekly "Welt am Sonntag," that said militants of the "Islamic State" (IS) had stolen thousands of blank passports from Syria, Iraq and Libya.
The militants are also believed to have stolen machines to produce documents for identification.
The European Union's border security agency, Frontex, also warned of the stolen passports becoming a security risk.

Merkel and co have screwed up bigtime. Unfortunately, it's ordinary Europeans who will pay the price of her madness, not the people that incited this invasion.

Manolo Garcia, a city councillor in Roquetas del Mar in the province of Almeria, said the killing of the 41-year-old man in the city led to protests which descended into violence in the working class neighbourhood of Cortijos de Marin.

"Garbage bins are being burned, cars have been burned, windows have been shattered," he told radio news station Cadena Ser.

Local online newspaper Ideal published a photo of a garbage container engulfed in flames in the middle of a street near a pharmacy as well as a video of man pushing a garbage container onto a burning car.

Police found the body of the man from Guinea-Bissau on a street in Roquetas del Mar in the early hours of Friday. Police suspect the man was stabbed following a dispute over a traffic accident, local media reported.

About 30-40 people had taken part in the unrest but police have since brought the situation under control, the assistant deputy of the national government in Almeria, Andres Garcia Lopez, told Cadena Ser.

"At this moment the situation is back to normal," he said......etc.
