Well done, LL, I couldn't get it to post.
I confess to being annoyed by the hysteria in a lot of the media, this business of them jumping on the vaguest rumour, or most ridiculous claim - such as the one from ISIS.
A bomb is, of course, possible - but the wreckage from Lockerbie was spread over a huge area. I freely admit anything I know on the subject comes from Air Crash Investigation, but looking at a few of the photos, like the above, and considering the information about the repaired tail strike, I suspect the explanation for this tragedy is right in front of us.
Alexander Neradko, head of Russia's federal aviation agency confirmed that the jet disintegrated at high altitude in a remote area of Egypt

I will not be surprised if the repair finally failed - as has happened before - and the rudder, and then the tail, sheared off.

Re: Russian jet crashes over Egypt
OMG...in other words, it was avoidable. I don't quite understand why the pilots okayed the plane during their visual inspection before their flight?

Re: Russian jet crashes over Egypt
Thing is, the owner of the plane is hardly going to admit that he had any culpability in it - much better to blame mysterious outside agencies, Lily. I am sure it will all come out in the course of the investigation - no-one dodgy seems to be involved in this one, for starters.
Unfortunately, a bomb is always an outside possibility, but not the most likely. Especially as similar crashes have happened before...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_Airlines_Flight_123
About 12 minutes after takeoff, at near cruising altitude over Sagami Bay, the aircraft's aft pressure bulkhead tore open due to a preexisting defect, stemming from a panel that had been incorrectly repaired after a tailstrike accident years earlier. This caused an explosive decompression, causing pressurized air to rush out of the cabin and bring down the ceiling around the rear lavatories. The air then blew the vertical stabilizer off the aircraft, severing all four hydraulic lines. A photograph taken from the ground some time later confirmed that the vertical stabilizer was missing.[18] Loss of cabin pressure at high altitude caused a lack of oxygen throughout; emergency oxygen masks for passengers were deployed. Flight attendants, including one off-duty, administered oxygen to various passengers using hand-held tanks.[7]

Re: Russian jet crashes over Egypt
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-11-02/infrared-satellite-reveals-heat-flash-time-russian-airplane-disaster
While many have speculated that a missile may have struck a Russian commercial airliner that went down over Egypt's Sinai peninsula, U.S. officials are now saying satellite imagery doesn't back up that theory.
A senior defense official told NBC News late Monday that an American infrared satellite detected a heat flash at the same time and in the same vicinity over the Sinai where the Russian passenger plane crashed.
According to the official, U.S. intelligence analysts believe it could have been some kind of explosion on the aircraft itself, either a fuel tank or a bomb, but that there's no indication that a surface-to-air missile brought the plane down.
That same infrared satellite would have been able to track the heat trail of a missile from the ground.
"The speculation that this plane was brought down by a missile is off the table," the official said.
A second senior U.S. defense official also confirmed the surveillance satellite detected a "flash or explosion" in the air over the Sinai at the same time.
But the US supposedly didn't see the heat trail of the missile that supposedly brought down MH-17? 'US official' would be well advised to STFU and get a new script from Langley.

The nature of passengers’ injuries from the Russian jet that crashed in Egypt’s Sinai on Saturday may indicate that an explosion took place aboard before the plane hit the ground, an Egyptian doctor who examined the bodies said, Sputnik news agency reported.
"A large number of body parts may indicate that a powerful explosion took place aboard the plane before it hit the ground," an Egyptian forensic expert told the agency.
A DNA analysis would be required to identify the victims of the Russian A321 airliner crash in Egypt, the expert added.

Russian and Egyptian experts failed to find any blast-related trauma during their preliminary examination of the bodies of the victims of the Russian passenger jet that crashed in the Sinai Peninsula, a Russian source within the investigation told TASS news agency.
“There were no signs of an explosion impact found during the preliminary examination,” the source said.
One of the Egyptian experts also told TASS that “there were no signs of external impact” found on the bodies

An explosion within the engine allegedly caused the Airbus A321 crash in Sinai, media reports suggest. Citing sources in Egypt's investigative committee, Egypt’s Al-Masry Al-Youm reported that the decoded black boxes showed that an engine blast caused the crash of the plane, killing all 224 people on board.
With no distress signal sent from the plane to the flights control center, the anonymous source told the media that the explosion was huge and might have affected all the engines at once.
"The investigation did not point yet to have any links to terrorists," Al-Masry Al-Youm cited its source as saying, adding that samples from the wreckage had been taken to determine whether any explosive materials were present on the plane, or if the blast was the result of a mechanics failure.
An 'Egyptian source'? Hmmmmm.......

Re: Russian jet crashes over Egypt
http://news.sky.com/story/1581778/no-10-explosive-device-may-have-downed-plane
The Russian jet that crashed in Egypt "may well have been brought down by an explosive device", Downing Street has said.
A Government spokesman said all flights due to leave Sharm el-Sheikh for Britain this evening will be delayed to allow a team of UK experts to assess what security arrangements are in place at the airport.
Prime Minister David Cameron will chair a meeting of the Government's COBRA emergency committee on Wednesday evening to review the situation.
The Metrojet plane, which was en-route from Sharm el-Sheik to the Russian city of St Petersburg, crashed in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula on Saturday, killing all 224 people on board.
More follows...
This may be a sensible precaution, it may be some kind of meddling by proxy, or Cameron may have been tipped off about something.
Or it could be hysteria due to rumour-mongering. Who knows?

Re: Russian jet crashes over Egypt
This makes more sense:
https://www.rt.com/news/320225-plane-crash-russian-egypt/
15:11 GMT
British PM David Cameron and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi have had a phone conversation about the Russian plane crash in Sinai, Downing Street said Wednesday. The two officials "agreed it was important not to prejudge the investigation," but with the cause of the crash still uncertain, they decided "it would be prudent to ensure the tightest possible security arrangements at Sharm el-Sheikh airport," the statement said.
Earlier, the Egyptian leader had said that speculation that Islamic State might be behind the Russian plane crash were "false propaganda" aimed at damaging Egypt's image, the Daily Telegraph reported.
It would appear to be 'sensible precaution' ramped up into hysterics by Sky, and doubtless the rest of the UK media.

A security source told Sky's Defence Correspondent Alistair Bunkall that the intelligence that prompted the Government to take this decision did not come from the wreckage of the plane.
Hmm. That raises more questions than answers. Let's hope it wasn't a bomb planted by chums of the 'moderate rebels'.....

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/us-official-says-isis-bomb-is-most-likely-reason-behind-russian-jet-crash-a6721686.html
A US intelligence source has said an Isis bomb is the 'most likely' reason behind a Russian jet crash, as the UK ordered all flights from Egypt to be grounded in a move that stranded up to 20,000 Britons.
Reports in the US media said US intelligence believe the 'most likely' cause of the explosion was a bomb planted by Isis terrorists.
And the Source would know that - how? Considering the US isn't included in the investigation team? One thing the Kremlin isn't is stupid....

Russia will pay price for Syrian airstrikes, says US defence secretary
Ashton Carter predicts reprisal attacks on Russian soil over Vladimir Putin’s military campaign to prop up Bashar al-Assad’s regime
Quote:
“They have initiated a joint ground offensive with the Syrian regime, shattering the facade that they are there to fight Isil [Isis],” he added. “This will have consequences for Russia itself, which is rightly fearful of attacks. In coming days, the Russians will begin to suffer from casualties.”
God help us all if Russia gets even the slightest, faintest sniff of Langley from whatever brought the plane down.
