Russian jet crashes over Egypt

The latest U.S. intelligence suggests that the plane crash was most likely caused by a bomb on the plane planted by ISIS or an affiliate, according to a U.S. official familiar with the matter.

"There is a definite feeling it was an explosive device planted in luggage or somewhere on the plane," the official said, stressing that no formal conclusion had been reached by the U.S. intelligence community.


I think I'll wait for something a bit more solid than 'feelings'. Though if it was indeed a bomb, Washington had better pray that the Kremlin doesn't decide that he who smelt it, dealt it.

The Foreign Secretary has told Sky News there is a "significant possibility" an IS affiliate downed a Russian passenger plane in Egypt.

Last night, Downing Street said the jet "may well have been brought down by an explosive device", killing all 224 people on board.

A group linked to Islamic State which operates in the Sinai peninsula has claimed responsibility for the crash - vowing to eventually tell the world how it carried out the attack.

Speaking to Eamonn Holmes, Philip Hammond said: "We've looked at the whole information picture, including that claim, but of course lots of other bits of information as well, and concluded that there is a significant possibility."

British spies have uncovered evidence that suggests a bomb was smuggled into the hold of the Russian jet that crashed in Egypt, killing 224 people.

UK intelligence found evidence of the plot in intercepts picked up as part of a review of material carried out in the wake of the 31 October disaster, Sky News understands.

The discovery by GCHQ prompted Britain to dispatch experts to Sharm el Sheikh to review security at the airport - leading to the suspension of all flights to and from the resort.

'Intercepts'? Let's hope they don't mean twitter and farcebook yet again. And why is the UK NOT co-operating with the official investigation - you know, the one that has the physical evidence?

The US and UK had better hope that it wasn't a bomb. Or Russia might indeed suspect that he who smelt it, dealt it. And yes, Langley is more than capable of blowing up a civil airliner for its own twisted ends.

Since they hold the evidence, will await their verdict.

Several "rescue flights" due to bring back stranded British tourists from Sharm el Sheikh have been diverted on their way to Egypt.

Sky News understands Thomas Cook, EasyJet and Thompson flights are among those that set off for Egypt only to divert midair.

It is believed some are now heading to land in Cyprus.

A Thomas Cook jet could be seen on an online flight tracker making a sudden turn over Albania. The company has yet to comment.

Don't ask me. Let's hope the 'refugees' currently squatting in Cyprus don't get any ideas about free rides...

From peering at the print, this incident supposedly took place on August 23rd. Two things-

1. Why are we only hearing about it now?

2. We all know EXACTLY where the means to hit planes landing and taking off came from. Step forward Hillary - oh, and McCain yet again.

I think this might be a pertinent part to that D.M. article:-

Thomson did not wish to comment last night. The altitude of its plane and its geographical position at the time it encountered the rocket has not been revealed.
A government spokesman said: ‘We investigated the reported incident at the time and concluded that it was not a targeted attack and was likely to be connected to routine exercises being conducted by the Egyptian military in the area at the time.’
