Lily, I shudder to think. Shooting down that plane was just about the stupidest thing Turkey could have done. It's brought their involvement and support for ISIS out into the open, for starters.

Also, Washington hasn't condemned McCain's pet terrorists for murdering the pilot - that won't go unnoticed in the corridors of power around the world.

More and more details are coming to light revealing that the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, variously known as ISIS, IS or Daesh, is being fed and kept alive by Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish President and by his Turkish intelligence service, including MIT, the Turkish CIA. Turkey, as a result of Erdogan’s pursuit of what some call a Neo-Ottoman Empire fantasies that stretch all the way to China, Syria and Iraq, threatens not only to destroy Turkey but much of the Middle East if he continues on his present path.

ISIS militants were trained by US, Israeli and now it emerges, by Turkish special forces at secret bases in Konya Province inside the Turkish border to Syria, over the past three years. Erdo?an’s involvement in ISIS goes much deeper. At a time when Washington, Saudi Arabia and even Qatar appear to have cut off their support for ISIS, they remaining amazingly durable. The reason appears to be the scale of the backing from Erdo?an and his fellow neo-Ottoman Sunni Islam Prime Minister, Ahmet Davuto?lu.


It's way past time Turkey was kicked out of NATO - and never allowed in the EU, whatever Ma Merkel says.

Why did we share this information with the Americans? Either they don't control their allies, or they just pass this information left and right without realizing what the consequences of such actions might be. We will have to have a serious talk with our US partners.

And that is exactly why the UK should NOT get involved - neither Turkey nor Obama's Washington can be trusted. I have no desire to see RAF personnel machine-gunned by Obama and McCain's pet terrorists, or to fall into the hands of the jihadist barbarians because Washington has 'accidentally' ratted them out.

A Turkish fighter jet launched a missile at a Russian bomber on Tuesday well ahead of the Su-24 approaching the Turkish border, the chief of Russia’s Air Force said. The bomber remained on Turkish radars for 34 minutes and never received any warnings.

The attack on the Russian Su-24 bomber was intentional and had been planned in advance, Viktor Bondarev, the chief of Russia’s Air Force, announced Friday, calling the incident an “unprecedented backstab.”

The commander shared with the media previously unknown details of what happened on Tuesday.

On November 24, a pair of Russian Sukhoi Su-24 tactical bombers took off from Khmeimim airbase in Latakia at 06:15 GMT, with an assignment to carry out airstrikes in the vicinity of the settlements of Kepir, Mortlu and Zahia, all in the north of Syria. Each bomber was carrying four OFAB-250 high-explosive fragmentation bombs.

Ten minutes later, the bombers entered the range of Turkish radars and took positions in the target area, patrolling airspace at predetermined heights of 5,800 meters and 5,650 meters respectively.

Both aircraft remained in the area for 34 minutes. During this time there was no contact between the crews of the Russian bombers and the Turkish military authorities or warplanes.

Some 20 minutes after arriving at the designated area, the crews received the coordinates of groups of terrorists in the region. After making a first run, the bombers performed a maneuver and then delivered a second strike.

Immediately after that, the bomber crewed by Lieutenant-Colonel Oleg Peshkov and Captain Konstantin Murakhtin was attacked by a Turkish F-16 fighter jet operating from the Diyarbakır airfield in Turkey.

To attack the Russian bomber with a close-range air-to-air missile, the Turkish fighter jet had to enter Syrian airspace, where it remained for about 40 seconds. Having launched its missile from a distance of 5-7 kilometers, the F-16 immediately turned towards the Turkish border, simultaneously dropping its altitude sharply, thus disappearing from the range of Russian radars at the Khmeimim airbase.

The Turkish fighter moved two kilometers into Syrian airspace while the Russian bomber at no stage violated Turkish airspace, Bondarev stressed.

The crew of the second Su-24M had a clear view of the moment the missile was fired from the Turkish F-16, and reported this to base.

Commander Bondarev noted that a pair of Turkish F-16Cs had been in the area close to the attack zone for more than an hour prior to the attack, which explains their presence in the area. The time needed to get the aircraft ready at the Diyarbakır airfield and travel to the attack zone is an estimated 46 minutes.

Some 2,000 people gathered in central Istanbul in Turkey on Saturday, to protest the killing of a prominent Kurdish lawyer. Police attempted to disperse the crowd in Taksim Square with tear gas and water cannon.


People took to the streets in Istanbul following the murder of Tahir Elci. The prominent campaigner for Kurdish rights was shot dead in southeast Turkey earlier in the day.

Police used water cannon and tear gas, ordering protesters to disperse, RT's William Whiteman reported from the scene. He himself and an RT cameraman were also teargased during the clashes, the reporter added.

I find Erdrogan seriously worrying, Lily - the thought of Turkey getting into the EU is scarey. It's bad enough that they're in NATO.

There are so many people who really do not like him at all in Turkey.

The European Union has agreed a deal with Turkey to control the continued flow of migrants and refugees into Europe.

Under the agreement, which was sealed at a Sunday evening summit in Brussels, Turkey will receive €3bn (£2.1bn) of EU funds as well as a reinvigorated discussion about its possible membership of the EU and the prospect of visa-free travel for its citizens into the EU.

In return, Turkey will use the €3bn to put in place measures to slow the movement of migrants across its borders into the EU.

The Turkish Prime Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, who is in Brussels, described the deal as a "new beginning" in the relationship between Turkey and the EU.

Oops. Turkey isn't awfully popular right now; maybe this would be a good time for Moscow to offer to help Greece regain the chunk of Cyprus which Turkey nabbed a few decades back?

Indeed, part of Istanbul aka Constantinople used to be Greek; maybe the Orthodox church would like Hagia Sophia back - minus the minarets?

Why not?  

I believe there is still all sorts of beautiful Orthodox artwork under several coats of white paint in Hagia Sophia..if we're going to have a Crusade, we may as well do it properly.
