PM Confirms EU Referendum Will Be On 23 June
David Cameron claims he has secured a "historic" deal from Brussels - and now the voters will get the chance to have their say
Prime Minister David Cameron has confirmed a referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union will be held on 23 June.
The PM briefed his ministers at a Cabinet meeting on Saturday morning after leaving Brussels with what he described as a "historic" deal on the UK's future relationship with Europe after talks with EU leaders.
Speaking outside Downing Street, Mr Cameron warned that leaving the EU would be a "leap in the dark" as he urged voters to back his reforms.
The PM confirmed the Cabinet had backed his plan but individual ministers would be free to campaign on either side.
:: Live Updates: Cameron Sells EU Deal To Cabinet
Following his return from a marathon EU negotiating session, Mr Cameron said leaving would threaten Britain's economic and national security".
"Those who want to leave Europe cannot tell you if British businesses would be able to access Europe's free trade single market, or if working people's jobs are safe, or how much prices would rise," he said.
"All they're offering is a risk at a time of uncertainty - a leap in the dark."
Key elements of the deal include agreements over welfare payments to migrants, Britain's right to opt-out of the eurozone, and a promise the UK would have stronger sovereign control over laws made in Brussels....etc.

Oh, The Boris is jumping ship....
http://news.sky.com/story/1645982/boris-johnson-backs-brexit-campaign
Boris Johnson has revealed he will campaign for Britain to leave the EU in a major blow to the Prime Minister.
The decision by the London Mayor ends months of speculation over which side he would support and represents a huge coup for the Leave campaign, given his broad appeal among voters.
David Cameron had made a last-ditch plea for the Conservative MP to campaign for the UK to remain part of the 28-member bloc.
Speaking on the BBC earlier, the PM said: "I will say to Boris what I say to everybody else which is that we will be safer, stronger and better off inside the EU.
"I think the prospect of linking arms with Nigel Farage and George Galloway in a leap into the dark is the wrong step for our country and if Boris and others really care about getting things done then the EU is one of the ways that we get things done."
More follows...
That's a bad blow for Dave.

Yes, Boris plays the fool a lot, but he is one of the brighter Tory politicians. And he doesn't annoy everyone, unlike Dave.

EU referendum: France issues border checks warning to UK
France could end UK border controls in Calais and allow migrants to cross the Channel unchecked, if the UK leaves the EU, France's finance minister has said.
Emmanuel Macron told the Financial Times his country could also limit access to the single market and try to tempt London's bankers to relocate.
His comments come as David Cameron and Francois Hollande prepare for security and migration talks in France.
Pro-exit London Mayor Boris Johnson urged voters to "ignore scaremongers".
British voters will be asked whether the UK should remain in the European Union or leave, in a referendum on Thursday 23 June.
Mr Macron told the FT that if the vote was in favour of a so-called Brexit, it could bring to an end the agreement between the two countries that allows the UK to conduct border controls on the French side of the Channel.
There are currently believed to be about 4,000 migrants amassed in Calais, hoping to cross to the UK.
'Bankers' red carpet'
"The day this relationship unravels, migrants will no longer be in Calais," Mr Macron told the newspaper, adding that France would also roll out a "red carpet" to London's bankers if the UK voted to leave the EU.
He also said a country leaving the single market would "not be able to secure the same terms", and the EU's "collective energy would be spent on unwinding existing links not re-creating new ones".
The migration crisis is among topics expected to be discussed when the UK prime minister and French president meet in Amiens, northern France.

Re: EU referendum set for June 23rd
1. Brexit makes it simpler to throw them out.
2. The British Isles are surrounded by a rather large moat; the Chunnel is merely a drawbridge.
3. The general public doesn't greatly care about bankers, they do care about the unwashed, violent horde France has allowed to gather in Calais.
Scaremongering isn't helping the EU case.

It's one of the dumbest ones yet, Lily. How does he imagine 'migrants' will get into the UK without any kind of passport? On magic carpets?
And, free of EU red tape, there is nothing to stop the City of London turning itself into a tax haven of some description.

PS - where does he think 'bankers' are more likely to set up shop?
1. Socialist, EU red tape France?
or
2. Centre-right, red-tape free UK?
