When I lived abroad I always said I was British or from the UK - not English. Would Scottish people say 'Scottish?' Just wondering #indyref

That's interesting. It's never, ever occurred to me to say I am 'British' when I've been abroad. 'British' is just a political term, not a country. After all, would many English folk describe themselves as 'European'?

I am classed as British here.  But I won't be using the term any longer.  English and not very proud of it.  Sometimes you have to bite the bullet.
It was only an accident of birth anyway.

I think the term 'British' was coined to cover what to call the West Indians and other immigrants who went to the UK after WW2. It's a generic description of anyone who was/is native UK born or who is/was naturalised. LL

That's the place.  I used to go there quite often as I worked not too far away.

Bonny, you will know tomorrow for sure but in the meantime, I believe you have won the right to be independent.

It's going to happen anyway, Lily. It's inevitable, the way the political map is shaping up. Better, IMO, a clean break, with the civil servants sorting out who gets what, than another three or four years of very bitter fighting between Holyrood and Westminster.

A very right wing government, of bullying bent, in London, led by the likes of Boris and Farage, facing a centre-left, pro-independence government in Edinburgh, is a recipe for hell on earth.

Remember at all times, the London politicians have lied through their teeth about Jam Tomorrow and made promises they simply cannot deliver. A narrow No win would be absolutely horrendous further down the line.

The mood in my living room is extremely nervous, Lily. I am NOT watching anything to do with votes on TV - I'm actually watching a PBS programme about your Civil War.

Reading round the internet feeds, there seems to be great excitement combined with total terror in case it's all gone horribly wrong. rofl

There's nothing on the news except speculation, and hot air to say they don't know anything. The YouGov poll which is cobbled together from Lord knows what is putting No on 55% - BUT. That's one of those ones that has a voting panel of people with landlines, so I wouldn't read too much into that.

The huge estates in the cities do NOT sit on polling panels. And there's been an enormous turnout, it looks to be around 90%.

This is a picture of people in a hall somewhere, waiting for something to happen, watching someone or other on telly trying to fill in dead air while he waits for something to happen.

They're missing an interesting programme on PBS about Mayan code.

Whatever happens, this has proven that people don't need fancy gimmicks to go to the polls; there's no need for internet voting or anything else so open to fraud.

No, all that's needed is a bit of paper and a pencil - and a cause that people actually care about, and can get involved in.
