That's nice for the resident of Islington; I don't think millions of former Labour supporters see it quite the same way....

Jeremy Corbyn: We can climb electoral mountain
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-37486397
Mr Corbyn ended his hour-long speech by promising to "build a fairer Britain in a peaceful world".

He also:

Promised to lift borrowing restrictions on councils to allow them to fund more housebuilding
Promised a £160m "arts pupil premium" to offer children access to music, drama and dance
Described anti-Semitism as an "evil", adding: "Every one of us has a responsibility to ensure that it is never allowed to fester in our society again"
Said the "so-called free market system" had "produced grotesque inequality"
Received a standing ovation for saying Labour would repeal the Trade Union Act
Said Theresa May could not "walk the walk" on inequality, saying the Tories were "funded by the privileged few, for the benefit of the privileged few"
Offered a "new deal" to businesses - investment in infrastructure in return for tax increases
Promised to suspend UK arms sales
Accused the government of "bringing division back" with plans to expand grammar schools.

Jeremy Corbyn thinks the State should do everything except its job
Stop! Wait! Listen! Jeremy Corbyn has a new plan and you’re going to love it. Here’s the idea: scrap government spending on borders and spies and guns. Abolish expensive, anachronistic, neo-imperialist tat like bombs, passports and armies. And instead, invest in a national imagination. As John Lennon said, it’s easy if you try.

I'm happy to fight for Jeremy Corbyn, even if trolls shout me down in his name
Since my experience of Labour's annual gathering as a fresh-faced candidate four years ago, where everybody talked as if they knew everybody else and I nodded along not knowing who they were on about most of the time, I’ve never been a fan of party conference.

This year, I had particular reservations at the prospect of vitriolic attacks from a newly emboldened army of protesters. For the price of attending conference, I could take my family away on a cheap package to Spain, so the idea of spending that money to be spat at was hardly enticing.

New Labour members like me need to do more - it’s time to get involved
True, the party I joined in a spasm of hope has been less than welcoming. But I admit it – I haven’t done enough in the past year. That has to change
Wen I decided to pay my £3 to the Labour party to sign up as a registered supporter just 12 months ago, I can’t say I expected much for my money. I’d been a paid-up member in the past, but after moving to Brighton to study, I voted for the Green party. While living there, I never looked back.

Voting in last year’s leadership election was a punt, a show of defiance; I wanted Labour to remember I existed. Like so many others, I wanted the party to represent a socialist politics, but as a child of the 90s it felt like something I wouldn’t see in my lifetime.

The money would have been better spent on a family holiday - after all, if Jezza ever gets anywhere near the UK economy, no-one will ever be able to afford a holiday again. Apart from the Party nomenklatura, of course, who will all be off to Cuba for their jollies.

He would have to bring back such socialist delights as currency controls, and all the rest of it, for us plebs.

Corbyn has as much chance of becoming PM as I have of becoming an astronaut, Lily. Also, there are too many nasties associated with him coming out of the woodwork - worse than Galloway and Derek Hatton.

There's this lovely:

http://order-order.com/2016/09/29/jewish-groups-condemn-jackie-walker-cover/

The Campaign Against Anti-Semitism says:

“It is beyond disgraceful that she was readmitted to the Labour Party and remains Vice Chair of Momentum. Shortly after her outburst, Jeremy Corbyn promised to fight antisemitism with his every breath but this is just the latest in a string of incidents involving Jackie Walker. What is there to investigate? How many more chances will she be given? Enough is enough. Jackie Walker must be expelled from the Labour Party and Momentum immediately and condemned in the strongest possible terms. Until Labour matches its rhetoric with action, we remain of the view that the Labour Party is not safe for Jews.

Labour under Jezza has become openly anti-semitic; it goes way, way beyond not thinking much of the current Israeli government, it is outright racism.

A warning to Corbyn: the centre ground hasn’t disappeared, it is being reshaped
Theresa May has a superior grasp of centrism, culturally and politically. That’s why she is winning.

It is less than 18 months since Ed Balls was one of the big beasts of British politics. Yet how long ago that era seems when one reads his agonised account of the May 2015 election in his memoir, Speaking Out.As a Financial Times reviewer pungently put it, the Balls generation already “reeks of yesterday.”

Labour lost last year, Balls writes, because it was not sufficiently trusted on the economy, and because Ed Miliband was not credible enough as a potential prime minister. This is what most politicians, as well as most political scientists, election analysts and commentators, myself included, believed at the time and believe now.  More at link

Theresa May has a superior grasp of centrism, culturally and politically. That’s why she is winning.

That's it in a nutshell, IMO. If Ed Balls is a leftover from Blairism, then Corbyn is a reminder of the horrors of the 70s, of miners' strikes, three day weeks, unions trying to run the country, etc.

For all the shouting about 'austerity' the vast majority of people actually aren't doing too badly at all, and people do tend to vote with their wallets.

Jeremy Corbyn should tell his followers to fight poverty, not Labour MPs says Frank Field

Jeremy Corbyn and his movement of members and supporters have won a mighty victory. Jeremy has made plain that the mass movement he has built up, Momentum – a remarkable achievement in and of itself – is about forging a new, transformational politics. Having triumphed in the Labour leadership election,  how can Momentum now help Jeremy achieve the more difficult goal of changing Britain in favour of the very large, growing, and extremely vulnerable underbelly of the poor?

The Labour plotters are right:  it's definitely Jeremy Corbyn who needs to 'learn lessons' from the last few months.
The plotters made an important point: that Corbyn must ‘reach out’. Instead of being divisive, as he was last time by offering them jobs in the shadow cabinet from which they resigned, he should let them pick their own jobs, and if they don’t fancy doing them one day, let them bring in games.

Theresa May has four years to save Britain from Jeremy Corbyn
Today Theresa May fleshed out the government's Brexit strategy, with plans for a Great Repeal Bill to take back democratic control from Brussels, and formal negotiations to begin by March.

Yet alongside this vital work, we mustn't be complacent for a moment about the wider challenges we face at home, or the threat from Labour under Jeremy Corbyn. We need a renewed sense of urgency, to reinforce the strong start to Theresa May’s premiership, broaden our appeal – and make the Conservatives the party of the aspirational underdog.

Labour reshuffle: Diane Abbott made shadow home secretary

Diane Abbott has been promoted to shadow home secretary in Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn's front bench reshuffle.

Ex-Liberty director Shami Chakrabarti is shadow attorney general and Keir Starmer, who left the team in June amid a wave of resignations, returns as shadow Brexit secretary.

But Dame Rosie Winterton, who had tried to negotiate between Mr Corbyn and many of his MPs, is out as chief whip.

Mr Corbyn's critics have suggested the reshuffle will fail to unify the party.
