I reckon they don't want the UK in the EU at this rate.

Yes, you'd be forgiven for thinking that, wouldn't you, Lily? It's astounding that Brussels can't, or won't, grasp that every time it issues an edict that tells the UK to act against its own interests, they're handing thousands of votes over to Farage.

What on earth is going on around the globe? There seems to be a serious case of incompetence washing over the planet.....

Yes, it's fairly stunning to sit and watch Our Leaders stumble from one disaster to another. I liked it better when grown-ups were in charge.

Mr Miliband walked past the beggar but then doubled back and hastily dropped a 2p coin in the cup

He won't be allowed to live that one down in a hurry. It would have been better if he had given her nothing at all.
And besides, isn't begging illegal?

I don't know, Sabot, it seems to be a bit of a grey area? I think it depends on whether they're annoying people or not? Millipede did something even worse during the referendum:

I know. What a hoot. And judging by the look on his face, he knows he's been sussed. At least I always manage 1 Euro, poor though I am.

What he gave was ghastly, Lily. Did he think that two pence in some way exonerated him from supporting beggars?
You give or you don't. Nothing much noble about that. Although there have been a couple of times in the past when even One Euro stretched me a bit.
But I have never felt so desperate that I had to shame myself by begging. Perhaps that was it. I have never been that shamed.
I don't care what these beggars do with it. That isn't my problem. I only need to know that I am fortunate by comparison.

Indeed, Lily.
I'll start a thread about the US elections tomorrow, in which we can ponder on how Obama gets out of this new mess....

Oh, it's just some LibDem, the crime reduction minister or some similar made-up title. Norma Baker by name. And I still don't know who he is or what he's for.

There's No Plot To Oust Miliband, Says Balls
Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls dismisses suggestions of a plot to oust Ed Miliband saying it is the Tories who face divisions.
Shadow chancellor Ed Balls has insisted the party is united behind Ed Miliband's leadership denying growing unrest among backbenchers.
MPs are understood to be increasingly disgruntled with Mr Miliband's performance with the General Election campaign just around the corner and there have been claims a letter is being circulated calling for him to go.
At the weekend a YouGov poll put him at an all-time low in the popularity stakes - behind even Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg, who until now had been the bellwhether for leadership unpopularity.

Couldn't happen to a better 'man'. After all, there were substantial rumors that his brother tried to shaft Blair and that's why he didn't get the job when Blair resigned. LLThat means there's a plot to get rid of Milliband.

They're like a bunch of rats fighting in a sack, LL, and I can't think of a single one of them would be the remotest improvement on Millipede. And the same applies to the Tories and LibDems.
I am sure there is the occasional honest MP who does his or her best for his constituents, but they never get promoted as they don't play the game.
