IMO, it isn't quite the same, except in numbers, LL. The people suddenly liberated by the fall of Communism were all from similar cultures, with similar values to those in the West, who WANTED everything the West had to offer. They also had skills to offer and were prepared to work to improve their lives.

This lot? They hate everything about western social democracy, except for the free stuff. They hate gays, they hate women, they hate Christians/Jews/atheists/agnostics, and as soon as they get their feet under the table, they start trying to turn previously pleasant European cities into the same kind of sh*tholes they have left.

France and Sweden, with their areas the police will not enter, are classic examples.

In 1942, if hundreds of thousands of fit young Germans had suddenly turned up on British shores with a few children and women in tow for show, and announced that they weren't like those horrid Nazi Germans, oh no, all they wanted was free housing and free money, what do you suppose the reaction would have been?

I can understand your friends' concerns, LL. It goes against the grain to say it, but thank God the Tories were re-elected - Labour would have thrown the gates open and let them all in. I will admit to being none too happy with some of the SNP right now. Not all of them, but a few are showing moonbattish, tearful tendencies over this.

If this flood is not stopped, IMO, there will be NO European social democracies or welfare states left in ten years - they will have been sucked dry financially, and torn apart by rioting, etc.

Budapest Mayor contemplates closing transit zones for migrants as huge influx is expected
By Zoltán Szécsi

Budapest Mayor István Tarlós said it no longer makes sense to keep transit zones for refugees and other migrants open on Wednesday, while the spokesperson of the Migration Aid voluntary group warned of a huge influx during the week, hvg.hu reports.

Tarlós spoke about the possibility of closing the transit zones set up for the refugees at the three major Budapest railway stations on the morning program of commercial channel TV2. The mayor said the “optional service” of the transit zones “no longer makes sense”, as the possibilities for the refugees to travel on to Austria have worsened. It seems like Tarlós changed his mind during the day, as he later announced that a new transit zone will open in District VIII on the area of a former marketplace near the Puskás Stadium.

The mayor promised that the existing transit zones will not be closed right away, and the one at Nyugati Station will be open the longest, “to be kept on reserve.”

As opposed to Tarlós’s intention, Zsuzsanna Zsohár, the spokesperson of the Migration Aid voluntary group that helps refugees, proposed the expansion of the Nyugati Station transit zone. She told hvg.hu that the facilities are already there for migrants to bathe and wash their clothes, as well as medical help and orientation for the arriving refugees. However, they can only sleep on the ground or take shelter from rain at the waiting rooms of the railway station.

Zsohár also emphasized the urgency of the expansion as about 7000 asylum-seekers were likely to reach Hungary by mid-week, the big rise in their numbers caused by the partial closing of the border between Greece and Macedonia last week. They are expected to arrive at Budapest at the weekend after being detained in Szeged for two or three days, and an emergency situation should be anticipated in terms of human resources, food, water, clothing and other sort of material needs.

Gov’t proposes to tighten laws “in face of” migration wave
By Hungary Matters

Parliament is set to amend a number of laws in next week’s extraordinary session convened to debate fortifying border protections. Government office chief János Lázár said lawmakers will vote on amending the penal code to apply stricter penalties for human smuggling and expand the regulations on expulsion. Parliament will also amend the law pertaining to launching proceedings against illegal border crossers in order to speed up the process, adding that the laws on asylum and civil procedure may also be amended. Lawmakers may also pass laws on regulations applying to transit zones, he added. The bill on the amendment proposals will be submitted to parliament by the justice minister on Friday.

Based on events of the past 48 hours, the government considers that the army will be needed for defence of the border. Codification work to ensure the necessary legal conditions required for this measure is taking place, he said, adding, that amendments to the constitution would be unnecessary. An international agency will be hired to spread the word in transit countries and the migrants’ countries of origin that Hungary has closed off its southern border. He said the campaign was likely to cost “millions of euros”.

Hungarians are a lw unto themselves.  They've survived about 200 years of Ottoman rule, picked the wrong side in WW1 and lost most of their land as a result.  In WW2 they supported the Third Reich, as the governent of the time wanted back all the land stolen from them in the Treaty of Trianon 1920.  They then fell into the hands of the Soviets and had a go at breaking fee in 1956, failed but on good thing that came out of that debacle was Kadar Janos who actually made the country into what was described as "the happiest gulag in Soviet hands" - they were lucky in that the old ties with Austria were still there; there was much cross border activity between the two countries - smuggling of all kinds of commodities, and also aid to those trying to escape to the West.   It was Hungary that opened the border with Hungary so the East Germans could flee to the West.    Oh, and a footnote, at no time did the Muslim Ottomans destry Christian churchs etc; they converted them into mosques - on their departure the Christians converted them back to churches! Very pragmatic attitude on both sides.   There are a few villages here where Ottoman descendants live happily with Christians and Jews.   LL

This is our Ottoman Church, formerly a mosque and before that a church.

None of this would be happening, not the deaths, none of it, if the likes of Merkel hadn't rolled out the red carpet for, well, just about anyone. Now, having invited the Third World to Germany, she's screaming because the rest of Europe won't take Germany's surplus.

If Greece had returned the very first boatload of 'migrants' to Turkey - where they were perfectly safe, in a moslem country - this wouldn't be going on in the east of Europe.

In western Europe, those bloody fools polishing their halos by 'rescuing' anyone they saw a mile off the Libyan coast and taking them to Italy have also made things ten times worse. They're no saints - they are the traffickers' best friends.

They would have been genuinely saving lives if they had fed and watered whoever they 'rescued' and taken them back where they came from. Because then, the message would have eventually got through that there was no point in paying money to risk your life.

Pathological altruism at it's finest - preen yourself on how 'caring' you are, while leaving other people to deal with the problems you have caused, all the while bankrupting and destabilising most of Europe.

Migrant children rescued from Austria minivan 'recovering'

29 August 2015

Three children are recovering in hospital in Austria after being rescued from a minivan containing 26 migrants.

Police said the severely dehydrated children would not have lasted much longer in the cramped vehicle.

The minivan was stopped in Braunau district on Friday and the Romanian driver was arrested after a chase.

Separately, four men appeared in court in Hungary following the discovery last week of another truck in Austria containing the bodies of 71 people.

The three Bulgarians and an Afghan, who were arrested in Hungary, were remanded in custody until 29 September. Austria is expected to seek their extradition.

A police spokesman said that the children were crammed in the back of the minivan along with the other migrants, said to be from Syria, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

He said the children - aged about five or six - were critically ill and almost unconscious. Officials said on Saturday that their lives were no longer in danger but they are still in hospital.

Police said they had tried to stop the vehicle and gave chase when it drove off at speed. The migrants said they were hoping to reach Germany.

Many migrants fall prey to smugglers who wait near the refugee camps, offering to take them at a high price on to western Europe,

I will do likewise, LL.

Meanwhile, prepare for shrieks of outrage from the Eurocrats:

http://news.sky.com/story/1543847/theresa-may-calls-for-curbs-to-eu-free-movement

Home Secretary Theresa May has called for the free movement of people within the EU to be limited to those who have a job.

Writing in the Sunday Times, Ms May said that EU rules were "the biggest single factor" preventing Britain from reaching its immigration targets.

"When it was first enshrined, free movement meant the freedom to move to a job, not the freedom to cross borders to look for work or claim benefits," she wrote.

"Yet last year, four out of 10 EU migrants, 63,000 people, came here with no definite job whatsoever.

"We must take some big decisions, face down powerful interests and reinstate the original principle underlying free movement within the EU."

Ms May's call came days after new figures showed that net migration to Britain was an estimated 330,000 in the year to March. It was the highest number of record.

Europe has been shaken by a string of recent migrant tragedies. Just days ago, 71 migrants, including four children, were found dead in a lorry in Austria.

And three children are in a critical condition after they were rescued from a separate lorry carrying 26 migrants, also in Austria.

In the Mediterranean, about 250 people died as two boats full of migrants capsized last Thursday in the latest tragedy at sea. The bodies of two suspected migrants found floating in the Mediterranean were recovered by the Italian Navy on Saturday.

Ms May said the deaths of migrants should be a "wake-up call" for Brussels that the Schengen agreement, which Britain is not a part of, has "exacerbated" the "tragedies".

"Its leaders must consider the consequences of uncontrolled migration - on wages, jobs and social cohesion of the destination nations; on the economies and societies of the rest; and on the lives and welfare of those who seek to come here," she wrote.

Ms May's call for limits to the freedom of movement is likely to irk EU partners at a time when David Cameron is renegotiating the terms of Britain's relationship with Brussels ahead of a referendum.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has previously said the free movement of people is a non-negotiable pillar of the EU.

Merkel won't like that, but I personally don't give a XXXX what Merkel thinks, not after Greece and now this invasion, which she has encouraged.

Incidentally, I don't recall voting for the German Chancellor to be in charge of MY life.

Migrant crisis: New arrest over Austria lorry deaths

Hungarian police say they have arrested a fifth man over the deaths of 71 people, thought to be migrants, found in an abandoned lorry in Austria.

The man is the fourth Bulgarian to be held over the find near the Hungarian border. The other man is Afghan.

Meanwhile, Germany, France and the UK have called for urgent EU talks on the escalating migration crisis in Europe.

On Sunday, France's foreign minister said the attitude of several countries towards the crisis was "scandalous".

Hungarian police said in a statement that the fifth man was arrested late on Saturday "on suspicion of committing the crime of people smuggling".

Authorities believe the men are low-level members of a human trafficking gang and hope the arrests will help them uncover the leaders of the group.

In a court hearing on Saturday, the four men arrested last week insisted they were innocent. Austria could seek to have them extradited.

Re the minivan story above, the three children taken to a local Austrian hospital for treatment have disappeared along with their parents. It seems the police told them they must apply for asylum in Austria or they would be deported back to Hungary. The people refused as they said they were going to Germany. The police think that, as the town (Branau) is literally on the German-Austrian border. The minivan has Spanish numberplates and the driver Romanian.
Bangladeshi migrants are among the 26 people rescued from a mini covered-van (lorry) stopped by Austrian police in Braunau district on Friday. The police also arrested the driver of the mini van – a Romanian national – after a chase. Police officials said the mini lorry, believed to contain migrants from Syria, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, was stopped in the small town of St Peter-am-Hart close to the German border. The rescued people were taken to a hospital. Three children are recovering in hospital after being rescued from the covered-van along with the 26 migrants. Not much you can say, LL - apart from, it's about time the army was sent in, or armies, to clear those camps out.

And those 27 that were found a few days ago are ALREADY draining UK taxpayers' money. Between the police, ambulances and the NHS, that's a good few thousand down the toilet.

And we will be expected to keep them in comfort till their cases are heard. If they are turned down for asylum, then they won't simply be deported, the EU human rights lawyers will jump on the gravy train.

All paid for by British taxpayers.

It's a piece of damned nonsense when so many of our own people are going without.
