They learned how to beat up witnesses when they joined. All part of The Induction Course. But when it came to Leonor Cipriano they forgot to do it only where it didn't show. Bad mistake, that one.

Personally, I am very disappointed that we are still waiting for Official Spinny from Morais. Everyone knows Cabrita's gone, it's even being mentioned openly on MM, so she is going to have to come up with some Spinny PDQ.

She's waiting for Gonc to tell everyone that he has been hounded into settling out of Court. Even his own Lawyer is IN IT now.

the version I heard was that Dr **** Amaral wanted a lawyer closer to home to save him trailing up to Lisbon every time he needed to discuss his legal business. If he is constrained financially then that would make sense. So I wouldn't read anything sinister into it until we know otherwise.

Liz Newman By all accounts Ruth Sr Amaral changed his Lawyer because he was in Faro and Sr Amaral was in Lisbon. I think it was down to distance when they had to meet and also financial.

Amaral changed his lawyer for the simple reason he wanted one 'closer to home' as they say, nothing more sinister than that, but, hey that wouldn't have given the pros any type of tittle tattle to Twitter about. The case is still listed in the Court schedule, and I'm sure at this late stage it can't be dropped as easily as that.

So, who's the lucky new guy or gal then? Or hasn't the court found anyone yet?

I doubt that The Case would be dropped from The List even if there is to be an out of court settlement. This would have to be acknowledge by The Court anyway.

Thank you Fred, I'm sure you're right, although I find it difficult to believe that, one would want to change their lawyer (who is well versed with the case) for a new one so close to the trial date. With modern communications technologies, distance is no longer a major drawback as demonstrated by the McCanns in Leicester and Carter Ruck in London.

Quite; Gonc only had to travel 40-ish miles further, less than an hour in a car. Bennett went all the way up to Liverpool in hope of getting a lawyer.

Of course Gonc wouldn't get rid of his long-time lawyer who knows all this inside out; there are things called 'faxes' and 'emails' and 'skype' now.

Answer - he can't. He will get a court-appointed lawyer. Who is supposed to get to grips with a huge, huge case in a matter of weeks.

Turns out he did a course at night school, Sadie, as part of PJ training. He only got average marks; he would probably have done better if he hadn't skipped the bit about it being illegal to beat people up in custody

I have to tell you that I have given this much thought. No, honest, I have. In fact I have gone to sleep on it every night for a week. And it beats Horlicks hands down.
So, the thing is, if as I believe, Cabrita bailed out because Gonc refused to take his advice, what other Lawyer is going to go along with Gonc's farcical defence?
The answer is.........No other Lawyer.
But I expect that Gonc can represent himself. That could be fun, but not for Gonc.

I'd have to check back, but I seem to recall that if he can't get a lawyer, the court will appoint one, and if push comes to shove, the trial will go ahead without him?

But what can a court appointed Lawyer say? "Excuse me Your Honour, he didn't know what he was doing." He might as well plead insanity.

And what about the others? I wonder if they have settled.

Well, if I were to speculate, I would say they have, Sabot. Maybe Cabrita advised Gonc to do the same, he refused, and Cabrita had had enough?

Certainly, if Guerra & Paz and TVI haven't settled already, I suspect they will now - they are businesses, they cannot afford to lose any more money because of Gonc's madness.

We're really just guessing, as there is so much we don't know.

Mind you, if it was up to the likes of Free Speech But Only For Me Morais, we wouldn't know anything at all.
