I don't know, Bonny. The poor kids and they ended up hungry. How can they learn on empty stomachs?

Someone should break it to them that Heathrow and Gatwick aren't the only UK airports that take international flights....

Must be, Lily, that it doesn't seem to have dawned on them that there's nothing stopping someone flying from Ebola Central into a European hub like Schipol, and then on to Cardiff, Belfast, Manchester, Edinburgh - any of the UK city airports.
Just like the Dallas case did.

No, she wouldn't. Neither would she be sending British troops to Ebolaland to get infected and bring it back home.

It may be this bizarre idea that Something must be done, Lily - even if that Something is useless and dangerous.

http://news.sky.com/story/1350904/ebola-hospital-staff-throw-gloves-at-spain-pm
Angry staff have been filmed throwing medical gloves and shouting "go away" at the Spanish prime minister after his visit to a hospital where a nurse has ebola.
Teresa Romero, 44, caught the deadly disease while treating a missionary there. He had flown to Madrid after becoming infected in West Africa and later died.
Questions have been raised about safety measures at Carlos III hospital where Mrs Romero is in a stable but serious condition.
That's the way to treat useless politicians!

US MILITARY PLANES ARRIVE AT EPICENTER OF EBOLA
Marines formed a line on the tarmac and had their temperatures checked by Liberian health workers
Poor sods; they joined up to protect their country, not be dumped in that hellhole.
One of the comments suggested having the next G7 in Ebolaland; I would go further and suggest all further NATO summits are held there, instead of privileged, peasant-excluding luxury in Cardiff.

Many in the military already have their morales at a low point. Poor guys.
All of those meetings would be perfectly placed there. They could then go on meet and greet tours of the towns?

Re: American doctor infected with Ebola
We now have an Oh, sh*t! moment-
http://www.foxnews.com/health/2014/10/12/health-care-worker-at-dallas-hospital-tests-positive-for-ebola/
Health care worker at Dallas hospital tests positive for Ebola
A health care worker at a Dallas hospital tested positive for Ebola in a preliminary test, the Texas Department of State Health Services said in a statement early Sunday.
The health care worker at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, who was not identified in the statement, provided care for Thomas Eric Duncan, the first Ebola patient in the United States, who died last week.
The worker reported a "low grade fever" Friday night and was isolated and referred for testing. The preliminary result was received late Saturday.
"We knew a second case could be a reality, and we've been preparing for this possibility," Dr. David Lakey, commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services, said in the statement. "We are broadening our team in Dallas and working with extreme diligence to prevent further spread."
Health officials have interviewed the patient and are identifying any contacts or potential exposures.
Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital has come under scruntiny for its handling of Duncan, who first showed up at the hospital's emergency room late on the evening of Sept. 25, complaining of a fever and severe pain. Although documents show that a nurse recorded early in Duncan's first hospital visit that he recently came to the U.S. from Africa and his temperature reached 103 degrees, he was prescribed antibiotics and told to take Tylenol, then returned to the apartment where he was staying with a Dallas woman and three other people.
The Associated Press reported that Duncan's temperature reading was flagged with an exclamation point in the hospital's record-keeping system.
Duncan died Oct. 8. A spokeswoman for the Texas Department of State Health Services said the agency was considering investigating the hospital for compliance with state health and safety laws.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
IMO, it's not the disease itself, unpleasant though it is, that is causing the panic. It's the incompetence of our 'leaders', and the way 'experts' keep telling us that no, it won't come to America. Then it does. Then we hear that, No, it won't spread. Then it does.
If they would just admit that there is a problem, that it is infectious, and they're not sure how, but here are sensible precautions....then there wouldn't be nearly so many people in a state of terror.
It's their blundering, lying and incompetence that is doing the damage.
PS - anyone seen the cleaning guy that pressure-hosed the Ebola-vomit recently?

Re: American doctor infected with Ebola
http://edition.cnn.com/2014/10/12/health/ebola/
It's not clear whether the health care worker in the second Ebola case contracted the disease during Duncan's first visit to the hospital or after he was isolated.
But now, the search begins for all the contacts whom that worker came in contact with.
"We need a whole new crew of people to do contact tracing," said Elizabeth Cohen, CNN senior medical correspondent.
Because Ebola's incubation period can last up to 21 days, the health care worker's contacts will have to be monitored for three weeks.
The Texas health department said officials have interviewed the patient and are identifying any contacts or potential exposures.
"This is not an easy thing," Cohen said. "Keeping track of large numbers of people, taking their temperature twice a day, making sure they don't ... leave town, all of that is a lot of work."

We figured something like this would happen because of the slap happy way in which this whole situation has been handled from the start.
Yes, Bonny, the lies, blundering and incompetence have been staggering.

Re: American doctor infected with Ebola
I suggest that any American who is even running a temperature should find a politician, shake their hand and give them a big kiss, then announce, I just wanted to thank you for everything before my Ebola gets any worse.
Just watch them spring into action if the top dogs are threatened in the slightest.

That's quite a good piece about the general muddle and incompetence. While I remember - Lily, will Obama messing around with your health insurance system make matters worse? Like, people not on Obamacare putting off going to hospital until it's too late, things like that?

Re: American doctor infected with Ebola
It is such a mess for too many, Bonny. For instance, people wanting to enroll in the plan will not be told how much the cost will be per month until after the November elections. What kind of a mess is that for many people who are already stretched to the limits to pay their bills? How many people would like to commit to that not knowing the cost?
It is possible that it will affect people like that who are without insurance and not on the poverty line. Maybe they will attempt to travel to Canada or Mexico for free or cheaper treatment if they can?

Desperate people are capable of anything, Llly. I have tried, and failed, to understand Obamacare - it seems to consist of the worst of every possible healthcare system.

You have it in one. Of course for those who get it completely free it is a great deal. Although illegals get all health care for free too....

OMG, what a terrible thought. You mean some people could be better off dead? And Obama could be hoping that some people will be getting the hell out of Dodge?

Re: American doctor infected with Ebola
Sabot, it is so hard to say for sure but it is possible. If you are really ill and you have no insurance because it is too expensive, fleeing north or south of the border may be your only hope? I doubt a person would be caring about who got it at that point which could have happened with the guy who brought it in to Dallas when it first got out of control recently?
Incidentally, the treatment costs for that man were in the region of half a million dollars which he did not pay, or anyone on his behalf, of course. That is now the job of the taxpayers. Then there is his nephew complaining that he didn't receive the same decent treatment as the doctor and the other lady received because they lived and he didn't. Al Sharpton is fueling him on......and if he wins a lawsuit, the taxpayers will possibly have to pay that too.

Re: American doctor infected with Ebola
I was exaggerating slightly, Lily. Or was I?
I simply do not understand this problem with Health Care. A paid system works perfectly well here. Those whose income is below a certain level don't have to pay, and those above that level can afford either the whole or the proportion of that which is expected. The amount is based on income, and decided by The State.
I wouldn't call what I have to pay exactly cheap, but I can manage it, and wouldn't even think of not doing so. And I am one of those people who is just over the border of the Free Line.
Dare I suggest that some people decide that it isn't a priority?.
