Police Raid Pub In 'Holy Grail' Relic Hunt
A dozen officers and a dog handler search a pub for a missing relic said to have been drunk from by Christ at the Last Supper.
The Nanteos Cup pictured three months before it vanished
Police hunting for a stolen Holy Grail relic raided a village pub but only found an old salad bowl.
A team of 12 officers searched the Crown Inn in the village of Lea, Herefordshire, for the Nanteos Cup, claimed to be the vessel Christ drank from at the Last Supper.
But after an hour the only item they found that resembled the missing artifact was a wooden bowl used to serve salad to customers.
Landlady Di Franklyn said: "I was amazed to see so many police - they said they had been given information that this Holy Grail had been shown off by someone here.
"But if somebody had stolen something as priceless as the Holy Grail I don't think it would be on show in my pub.
The only item in the pub that resembled the holy cup was a salad bowl
"But the police were taking the information very seriously because there were so many of them including a police dog handler."
Nanteos Cup warrant
According to legend, the Nanteos Cup was brought to Britain by Joseph of Arimathea and is said to have divine healing qualities.
Monks apparently took it to Nanteos Mansion in the Welsh county of Ceredigion during the reign of Henry Vlll.
The estate was later owned by the Powell family who housed the cup for centuries.
The relic later left the mansion and was stolen from a house in Weston-under-Penyard, Herefordshire, in July.
It vanished after it was loaned to a seriously ill woman because of its purported recuperative powers.
West Mercia Police said the raid was carried out after they "received intelligence" the cup had been seen in the pub.
A spokeswoman said: "We were told it was still there and so executed a search warrant to try and find it."

Monkey wins 'selfie' copyright row

Wiki Backs Monkey In Selfie Copyright Row
Nature photographer David Slater argues he set up the shot so it is his copyright - and all the macaque did was click the shutter
The organisation behind Wikipedia has refused to pull down a selfie taken by a macaque - arguing that the photographer who owned the camera has no rights to the image.
British nature photographer David Slater has said that he set up the picture before the monkey clicked the shutter - therefore it is his copyright, and he should be paid when people use the picture.
But Wikimedia, which runs Wikipedia, disagrees.
It argues that because animals cannot have copyright, no one owns the copyright - so it should be freely available on its Wikimedia Commons website.
"It's all based on a technicality," Mr Slater was quoted in The Times, "I own the photo but because the monkey pressed the trigger and took the photo, they're claiming the monkey owns the copyright.
"There's a lot more to copyright than who pushes the trigger on the camera.
"Nothing gives Wikimedia (the organisation that oversees the online encyclopaedia) the right to decide who owns the copyright of the image and give people permission to use it for free."
The wording on the picture that appears on the Wikimedia Commons site says: "This file is in the public domain because, as the work of a non-human animal, it has no human author in whom copyright is vested."
Mr Slater is not giving up.
He says he has lost earnings of up to $30,000 (£17,800) and wants the image taken off Wiki's huge collection of royalty-free pictures.
The image was taken in Indonesia in 2011 while Mr Slater was trying to set up the perfect image of a crested black macaque, only for the creature to come and investigate his equipment.
Wikimedia said community members will now decide if the photo should remain in the public domain, in a case which could see photographers potentially lose rights to their own selfies in future

Re: You couldn't make it up....
Surprised: Mr Slater was taking photos of crested black macaques on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi in 2011 when the animals began to investigate his equipment. Above, the monkey takes a photo of Mr Slater

It should not be up to the community members to decide, surely? Mr Slater was in charge of the photoshoot.......

Re: You couldn't make it up....
Though you could argue that primates are very similar to humans, and the monkey did involve itself in the photoshoot....
I can't see it happening too often, you don't often get lions and tigers offering to take their own photos.

SUPERMOON warning: Rare lunar event could trigger 'END OF DAYS' this Sunday
A RARE phenomenon THIS SUNDAY could trigger the end of life as we know it in an explosion of earthquakes, killer plagues and volcanic eruptions
The SUPERMOON will light up the sky in a beautiful spectacle on Sunday but may also act as a catalyst to Earth's terrifying and dramatic conclusion, according to ancient legend.
Lunar activity is said to mark the END OF TIME, with some religious groups believing it to be a sign of the JUDGEMENT DAY.
It occurs when the moon’s path of orbit leads it to sweep dangerously close to Earth causing tides to rise and the crust of the planet to shift.
The Bible gives terrifying warnings of impending doom signalled by rare and foreboding cycles of the moon.
**CLICK HERE FOR OUR SUPERMOON PICTURE GALLERY**
Joel 2:10 states: “Before them the earth quakes, the heavens tremble, the sun and the moon grow dark and the stars lose their brightness.”
In Acts 2:20 it is written: “‘The sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the great and glorious day of the Lord shall come.”
Revelation 6:12 warns: “I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood.”
More madness at link, plus some common sense....
Tom Kerss, astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, explained there have been three supermoons so far this year, two in January and one in July.
If ancient prophecies don’t come true and the world doesn’t end on Sunday, there will be another next month, he added.
I wonder if Bennett is busily building himself an Ark, or something?

Tom Hanks' Typewriter iPad App Hits Number One
Hanx Writer mimics a manual typewriter and was created by the Oscar winner, who uses a real one every day.
An iPad app created by Hollywood star Tom Hanks has shot to the top of Apple's iTunes Store.
Hanx Writer, which emulates an old-fashioned typewriter, was only launched last week but has already become one of the most popular apps.
The free download makes all the noises of a typewriter, including the "ding" when you start a new line, but benefits from modern technology such as being able to press delete when you make a mistake.
After its launch on August 14, Hanks tweeted: "The Future. Will be written. On a #HanxWriter. This I vow. It's Free! Hanx."
When asked by @appstore on Twitter what inspired the Saving Mr Banks star to create the app, he said: " ... cause I find it's like music that spurs along the creative urge. Bang bang clack-clack-clack puckapuckapuckapucka... #HanxWriter"
Last summer Hanks wrote about his love of typewriters in the New York Times and revealed he uses one every day.
"Everything you type on a typewriter sounds grand, the words forming in mini-explosions of SHOOK SHOOK SHOOK. A thank-you note resonates with the same heft as a literary masterpiece," he said
Hanx Writer connects to the iPad via Bluetooth to external keyboards and also offers an on-screen keyboard.
The app offers three paid-for upgrade options which give different ribbon and background colour options and the ability to create title pages with pictures.
The actor teamed with mobile-development studio Hitcents on the app.
Users have called the Hanx Writer "genius" and "simple" in their reviews.
Andre wrote: "It is amazing just how simple sounds and a typewriter layout can deceive your mind. I actually feel what I am typing rather than the cold and soulless iPad default keyboard."

I would love to have that on my laptops.

Most Pierced Man Barred 'Over Black Magic'
Fears that Rolf Buchholz may use supernatural powers for evil purposes are said to be behind Dubai's decision not to let him in.
The world-record holder for the most piercings has been refused entry to Dubai - claiming officials were worried he may practise black magic.
Rolf Buchholz, who has horn implants and more than 100 piercings on his face alone, said he was forced to cancel a nightclub appearance in the emirate.
He told the Associated Press that immigration agents initially stamped his passport and let him through, but that he was stopped again before he was able to exit customs.
The club said airport authorities cited "security reasons" in denying him entry, but the heavily tattooed 55-year-old said airport workers told him officials were concerned he could be a practitioner of black magic.
Or a complete lunatic - no-one in their right mind does that to their face. And as for the horn implants....
