I just watched an infuriated Fox person referring to the fact that Sarkhozi's (sp) ex-wife Carla Bruni was one of those at the head of the march, and declaring,

Which rather sums it up. Personally, I believe the security of the King and Queen of Jordan, of Lavrov and Poroshenko, of Netenyahu and Abbass, etc., was just as, if not more, important than Obama's, if people are ever going to start talking and stop killing each other.

But it's not just Obama's cowardly absence; there was NO-ONE from his administration there. There simply is no excuse, IMO.

French presidents tend not to annoy me, Sabot, so I don't really know which ones are 'good' or 'bad'. I gather Sarkozy is increasingly popular, though?

He's very different to Hollande, confrontational, unconventional and can be quite rough in his dealings with people. But I do think he is upfront and, as much as a politician can be, reasonably fair. LL

Well, what can I say? He's a world class leader? No. He's someone to respect? No.

In order not to bore you all, I could go on for hours, but won't.

He's a total embarrassment and then some. America is creaming him today.

I am trying to think of ANY head of state that's ever pulled a stunt like this, and can't. Even the maddest dictators generally manage to behave when the occasion demands.

We can see from the US media, blogs, etc, just how angry ordinary Americans are, and I don't blame them. In effect, Obama has just abdicated leadership of what's generally regarded as the Free World. The consequences are liable to be very far-reaching indeed.

He looked good from here, LL. And he is still looking good.

France had a minor blip because they mistakenly thought Hollande would be better than the mother of his children, which he probably was. But that wouldn't have been hard.

You should have seen The Campaign when Segolen Royal ran for President. What a laugh that was.

I hope the White House is enjoying today's papers.

The Twitter account for U.S. Central Command appears to have been hacked, and is carrying messages promoting the Islamic State -- including one that says, "AMERICAN SOLDIERS, WE ARE COMING, WATCH YOUR BACK. ISIS."

Another page shows what appears to be an image from a computer web cam in a military facility. An accompanying tweet says, "ISIS is already here, we are in your PCs, in each military base."

Central Command officials say they are "aware" of the issue and are "addressing" it.

The Twitter account now carries an image identifying the page as "CyberCaliphate," with a message that says, "I love you ISIS."

The page has started posting screen shots of information about military commanders.

I don't have the words, Sabot. I see the twitter account has been shut down, but there was SCREEDS of information on it, far too much for me to take in. There were some nice wargaming graphics about invading China and Korea, though. I doubt if those were meant for general release.

Which begs another question - How did whoever did this get hold of the information in the first place, BEFORE they hacked the account? Why did US Central Command even have a flaming Twitter account?

Quite frankly, the Pentagon needs to be more worried about the fact that the entire world can now see they've been scheming ways to invade China, than about their stupid twitter feed.

I see some White House tw@t is giving a press conference claiming that 'we' are not just battling Islamic extremism. He seems curiously unable to say who else is currently doing all the blowing up, massacring and shooting.

And he came out with a load of waffle about Obama's no-show.

It is indeed lucky, Bonny. France needs it - and the rest of the Western world at this point.

Oh have they hacked into the think tanks? I believe the Rand Corporation, for example, does that constantly for world scenarios but even so, it is not good?

The White House press conferences are typically BS.

It's being downplayed now because it was 'just' twitter and YouTube, so anyone that didn't see them, won't know what was actually being posted, Lily.
