Nicola Sturgeon says MSPs at Holyrood could veto Brexit
Yes, you do that undemocratic, dumb thing, dear. Then see how fast the Barnett formula is abandoned by Westminster, and there is no money in Scotland to pay for nurses, police, teachers, hospitals, that sort of thing.

@RealDMitchell that map kinda overlooks fact that two-in-five Scots voted for Brexit. Here's a truer picture...

Re: EU Referendum Rules triggering a 2nd EU Referendum petition
This petition was created at a time (over a month ago) when it was looking unlikely that 'leave' were going to win, with the intention of making it harder for 'remain' to further shackle us to the EU. Due to the result, the petition has been hijacked by the remain campaign. Admittedly, my actions were premature however, my intentions were as stated above. THERE WAS NO GUARANTEE OF A LEAVE VICTORY AT THAT TIME!!! Having said that, if it had not been mine, it would have been orchestrated by someone on the remain campaign. However, since I am associated with the petition and before the press further associate me with it I felt the need to better clarify my position on the issue even if it looks bad. I am it's creator, nothing more! The logistical probability of getting a turnout to be a minimum of 75% and of that, 60% of the vote must be one or the other (leave or remain) is in my opinion next to impossible without a compulsory element to the voting system.
I have been opposed to the bureaucratic and undemocratic nature of the European Union as an institution privately for many years and for all of my political career. I have openly and actively lent my support to both Vote Leave and Grassroots Out campaigns - why would I do this if I wanted to remain in the EU? I am genuinely appalled by the behaviour of some of the remain campaign, how they are conducting themselves post-referendum not just with this petition but generally. The referendum was fairly funded; democratically endorsed, every vote was weighted equally and I believe this was a true reflection of the mood of the country. To my fellow leavers, now doubting their decision please keep the faith, we will be fine just stick with it. I believe what we need to do now for the good of the country; is get behind the will of the British people, unite, issue Article 50 of the Treaty of Lisbon and move forward, with the process of leaving the European Union.

Re: EU referendum set for June 23rd
I am beginning to suspect it won't be long before some kind of a deal is cooked up, Lily, in which the UK gets most of the benefits of Brexiting without actually Brexiting......
There are a good few other Euro nations that would be happy to depart, which is the last thing Merkel wants. Apart from anything else, the euro being weakened by her and her chums bankrupting Greece benefits Germany; weak economies in the euro enable Germany to hide their own strength and their exports benefit.
We'll have to wait for the uproar to die down first, though. And for Ms Sturgeon to stop pouring petrol on bonfires; Scotland-only membership of the EU is impossible, for various reasons, not least that we currently have a deficit that makes Greece look wealthy.

They have two years to make their dealings??
Reading through some of the posts on this thread - notably tweets and so forth and that one referring to the elderly - are so sad when you think about it.
How has this dreadful dumbing down got that far?

Seriously, I blame Facebook for a lot of it, Lily. Generation Snowflake thinks countries are like FB, and everyone on FB gets to say how much they 'love' other countries, have twavatars to show how much they care when something ghastly happens, etc, so the rest of the world should be like that too.
*Tilts head to one side and sings Imagine*
You try to explain to any of them about currency, that there are bad guys out there, about Soros, about terrorism, anything, and they'll declare that #Lovewins and light a candle. And 'old people' are just stopping #Lovewinning.
If Ms Sturgeon thinks for one minute that anyone bar her most fanatical fans are going to vote to live in an EU Scotland that has taken a 15% cut in its standard of living, has no Barnett formula, and is under the rule of the Troika/Berlin, then she needs to sober up fast.
And there WOULD have to be barriers at the border under those circumstances, not least because all our pretty villages in the Borders would be over-run with the denizens of Calais trying to get into England by the back door.

Re: EU referendum set for June 23rd
I hope to God there are never any more referendums in the UK after the last two, Lily, but if there are, then (along the lines of that daft petition) then some kind of rules about turnout and super-majorities of 66%+ have to be introduced.
It must be something about our character, Switzerland has them all the time without the country tearing itself apart. I used to think it was a good idea, that the public shout be asked about everything, but I question if it's worth it for shambles like this.

That's interesting, and I wouldn't be surprised. UK wins concessions on the things that have caused so much unrest, Article 50 is never launched, Dave stays in No 10 and life goes on?

The Euro is still at 81 pence. Hardly a disaster after what happened back along. I have no idea why. Perhaps Jean Pierre can help.
Why did The Pound drop so drastically three odd years ago?

I can't remember why it dropped, Sabot. Did something wonderful and profitable happen in the UK that made the pound worth more?
Nah, can't be that.....
Thanks, Lily, that is a good piece. There's a difference between real money, which is what you and I have in our pockets, and the 'money' that whizzes round Soros' computer screens according to algorithms...

Francis maude was interviewed on the BBC this morning, making a similar point.
For all Junkers and cos posturing and demands for immediate withdrawal and a 'hard brexit' the UK is getting on for 15% of the EU, and a major trading partner. Deliberately harming the UK will be akin to cutting off one of your hands to punish a friend. Merkel and other elected leaders, especially those facing election themselves, are suggesting a more conciliatory approach and trying to reach a 'win win' position.
This suggests that a few months of 'talks about talks', then a negotiated settlement.
I am inclined to agree with you that we may see a 'brexit light' or a sort of associate membership that would in effect allow limited conjugal rights with the EU but leave us free to free to see other people.

It was 4chan again.
Here are 4Chan boasting about their work on the petition
Posts include:
Almost fifty thousand signatures from Vatican City
*
They’ll look at the IPs and wonder how the feck people from north Korea and the Vatican are voting
*
mfw we are playing 4D chess and everyone assumes we are anime shitposters
*
Most online petitions are fraudulent as feck anyway due to the lack of any verification needed and the fact that you can make a petition over anything.
Anyone remember the whitehouse.gov petition by /jp/ to ban normalf*gs and janitors? Something to that effect anyway.
*>divismail.ru
How long until they blame Putin’s hackers for it?
I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's 4chan that are forever messing with the Mail's voting system, which often does bizarre things.
PS - I wouldn't advise those of a sensitive disposition to visit 4chan; it's bad even by my low standards (and I speak as a Reddit reader).

Re: EU referendum set for June 23rd
I see his old 'squeeze' is now shadow health minister!! i have vaguely heard of Pat Glass, but none of the others. Oh, Stephen Kinnock is Neil Kinnock's son. LLLabour leader Jeremy Corbyn has announced a reshaped cabinet following a wave of resignations in protest at his leadership.
Mr Corbyn lost 12 of his shadow cabinet on Sunday and four shadow ministers on Monday - with most criticising his performance in the EU referendum.
Mr Corbyn said he regretted the resignations but pledged to stand in any new leadership election.
Labour MPs are due to discuss a no confidence motion against Mr Corbyn.
The new line-up includes:
Shadow foreign secretary - Emily Thornberry
Shadow health secretary - Diane Abbott
Shadow education secretary - Pat Glass
Shadow transport secretary - Andy McDonald
Shadow defence secretary - Clive Lewis
Shadow chief secretary to the Treasury - Rebecca Long-Bailey
Shadow international development secretary - Kate Osamor
Shadow environment food and rural affairs secretary - Rachel Maskell
Shadow voter engagement and youth affairs - Cat Smith
Shadow Northern Ireland secretary - Dave Anderson
The latest frontbench resignations came on Monday, by shadow foreign minister Diana Johnson, shadow civil society minister Anna Turley, shadow defence minister Toby Perkins and Wayne David, shadow Cabinet Office, Scotland and justice minister.
Stephen Kinnock, a parliamentary aide to shadow business secretary Angela Eagle, has also quit, citing Jeremy Corbyn's "half-hearted and lacklustre role" in the EU campaign.

@AidanKerrPol
Party with the largest percentage of Leave voters amongst its supporters was the SNP:
SNP 29%
Tories 27%
And that is why Ms Sturgeon absolutely NO basis for her actions, beyond sh*t-stirring.
I hope to God there are no more referendums after the last two, but she needs to think on.
None of those people will EVER vote to leave association with the UK to be in the EU - that's a million votes gone.
And very few people of those who voted NO last time will vote to leave association with the UK in favour of EU membership - they will support continuing to be part of the UK as the lesser of the two evils.
Only the absolute fanatics will support her nonsense - legally, she hasn't a leg to stand on, apart from anything else.
All this has been pointed out in great detail by older, wiser SNP leaders, but is being dismissed as What do old people know? Everyone on FB agrees with me.
