Re: EU referendum set for June 23rd
June 15th, 2016 By Hungary Matters
Economy minister warns of possible consequences of Brexit going through
If British voters decide to opt for the UK to leave the European Union there could be a knock-on effect for Hungary’s economy, the economy minister said. The exit of the UK from the European Union could slow the speed of Hungarian GDP growth by 0.3-0.4 percentage points, Economy Minister Mihály Varga said on Monday at a press conference about the 2017 Hungarian budget bill. Varga said Brexit would have a direct effect because of Hungarian-British economic ties and an indirect one through the EU.
The economy ministry has put together a report that mainly examined foreign trade and the effect of the British economy on the European one. The ministry also took into account that the UK is a net contributor to EU finances and Brexit could affect Hungary’s status as a net beneficiary, Varga said. A British exit would have consequences that are difficult to measure, among them changes in employment opportunities in the UK, its effect on bilateral trade and British investments in Hungary and financial service providers in the UK possibly moving to other countries.

No-one's listening to 'experts' anywhere, anymore, LL, not since Remain lost the plot last Thursday. And Geldolf (however you spell his name) has just finished things off today.

Why was Geldof swearing at a fisherman who watched his brother drown at sea? @StrongerInPress @UKIP
That was one of the most horrible, open displays of arrogance and elitism I have ever seen. I will be surprised if Remain recover from this.
I am afraid the Izzards, Toynbees and Geldolfs have brought the whole thing down to a very personal level with their utter contempt for ordinary working people.
IMO, an earthquake is almost inevitable now.

I wonder if Nicola Sturgeon would have to resign if Scotland votes to Leave.
Quite possibly, yes, as she's handled it all appallingly badly, with a complete lack of logic, and spending two hours of a debate shouting Tory! at Boris isn't actually making the case for Remain.
Neither did she listen to older and wiser heads in the SNP, getting carried away with her new role as the Merkel of Caledonia.

http://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/britain-on-course-for-brexit-after-poll-surge-8gd8zp3sh
A clear majority of voters want Britain to quit the European Union, according to a poll for The Times that gives Brexit a seven-point lead.
The YouGov survey puts Leave on 46 per cent, up three points since the end of last week. Remain is on 39 per cent, down three — giving Brexit its largest lead since the start of the campaign, the pollster found. Eleven per cent of people do not know how they will vote and 4 per cent plan to abstain.
Women are now more likely to support Brexit, as are people aged 25 to 49,
And that was before Geldof's antics....

Re: EU referendum set for June 23rd
I've just seen a few minutes of Gordon Brown - before I changed channels. Could the non-Tory Remain lot please find a better argument than just shouting Evil Tory! at Leavers? This matter cuts across party lines, and the failure of Labour and the SNP to acknowledge that is, IMO, going to lead to them being just as divided as the Tories, whichever way it goes.
Oh, and the EU doesn't 'give' money to anyone. The EU doesn't create any money - quite the opposite. All it is doing when it 'gives' money to any cause or scheme in the UK is returning a bit of the money UK taxpayers hand over to Brussels and Berlin.

Huge poll from Ipsos-Mori
#Leave 53% (+10)
#Remain 47%

Polls coming out now all seem to show the Remain vote collapsing - and these were done BEFORE Geldof's antics. He's on Question Time for Remain tonight, so that should put a few more points on Leave.
I wonder how many votes Eddie Izzard cost Remain last week?

Having now seen what Gove's elderly father actually said, I am even more disgusted with the Remainers than I was yesterday.
“I don’t know what this reporter is going on about. Everybody in the north-east knows it was Europe that did such damage to the fish trade. The common fisheries policy was a disaster, not just for Aberdeen, but all of Scotland. There wasn’t any future for my business. It closed as a direct result of Europe.”
Only a truly rotten cause behaves like this.

And if he thinks 67% of Scots are going to vote Remain, he's even more deluded than anyone knew.

Re: EU referendum set for June 23rd
http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/14561665.Former_SNP_leader___39_exasperated__39__at_party__39_s___39_confused__39__EU_stance/
A FORMER leader of the SNP has attacked his party for appearing "more British than the British" ahead of the EU referendum and promoting George Osborne's "project fear" style warnings.
Gordon Wilson, who led the SNP before Alex Salmond's first stint in charge, claimed that like many of its supporters, he had become "increasingly confused" about the party's stance and said it should now demand concessions from Brussels over a future bid for independence.
He accused the leadership of "deceit" over levels of representation Scotland enjoyed in the EU and departing from the SNP's central message of defending Scotland's interest. Mr Wilson warned: "There is a limit to the demands the party can make on loyalty from its voters."
The intervention follows another party grandee, Jim Sillars, accusing Nicola Sturgeon of "scaremongering" in her efforts to secure a Remain vote, saying she had deployed "the whiplash of fear".
Mr Wilson said: " Nowhere is there any attempt to address Scotland’s democratic deficit. Instead, the SNP is wasting its political capital by appearing more British than the British and more European than the Europeans. What is the SNP’s vision for Scotland in Europe when Europe is intent on vetoing Scottish independent membership?"
The former MP, who led the SNP between 1979 and 1990, expressed "exasperation" at what he sees as SNP support for the UK Government's stark warnings over the economic consequences of Brexit, slamming Westminster leader Angus Robertson response to the Chancellor's warnings over an emergency austerity Budget as a "political error".
He added: "Unless the SNP introduce a major Scottish element to the debate, they may be surprised at the outcome. Pro-Europe feeling is soft and I have been surprised by the extent of support for out. There is a limit to the demands the party can make on loyalty from its voters when it departs from its central messages of defending Scotland’s interests. Miniscule regional representation in the EU is not the same as independence in Europe. To say otherwise is a deceit."
With polls predicting a tight race and many putting the Leave side in the lead UK-wide, there has been speculation that the EU may grant last-minute concessions in a bid to convince voters to back Remain.
Mr Wilson suggested exploiting the situation to demand assurances that the EU "will remove its veto on Scottish independence" and secure Scottish Government representation on the Council of Ministers.
He added: "If these demands are not met, then the SNP should withdraw its support for Remain. Whether it then pulls out of the campaign, deeming it an irrelevance to Scotland’s needs or switches to Leave, is an issue for decision by the party. There is still time to put Scotland first."

Re: EU referendum set for June 23rd
http://blogs.spectator.co.uk/2016/06/brexit-debate-exposed-establishment/
Yesterday, on the Thames, in a bizarre battle of political flotillas, we got a glimpse of the elite rage that motors much of the Remain camp. On one of the pro-EU boats, Bob Geldof, a knight, superbly well-connected, who has earned millions, made wanker gestures and gave a two-fingered eff-you to the people on the anti-EU boats — who were mainly fishermen whose livelihoods have been wrecked by Brussels.
One of these fishermen, his face ashen with desperation, shouted — almost cried, in fact — about earning £50 a week and not knowing where his next mortgage payment is going to come from, largely thanks to EU regulations on the fishing trade. Wealthy, influential Geldof was laughing and jeering at people like that......etc, including:
Ours is an era in which people furiously deny being part of the Establishment, even when they’re bang in the middle of it. Nicola Sturgeon — ruler of Scotland! — poses as an establishment-rattling rebel. The BBC madly fancies itself as a thorn in The Man’s side.
Yes. People - including me, belatedly - are cottoning onto Ms Sturgeon. It's just an act; she's a globalist, not a nationalist, and the professional politicians and lawyers that have taken over the SNP are little more than New Labour with a bit of tartan stuck on.
They're not fit to tie the boots of an earlier generation of SNP-ers, like Gordon Wilson and Jim Fairlie, who really do care about Scotland and its people.

Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday urged British politicians to moderate the language used in their campaigns ahead of the Brexit vote, after a popular pro-Europe MP was murdered.
The exaggerations and radicalisation of part of the language do not help to foster an atmosphere of respect," she said, in response to a question on the killing of the British lawmaker Jo Cox.
"That's why we all value democratic game rules. And we know how important it is to draw limits, be it in the choice of speech, in the choice of the argument but also in the choice of partly disparaging argument," she said, calling for the beliefs of others to be respected.
"Otherwise the radicalisation will become unstoppable," warned the German leader..... etc.
Aren't there any rapists for her to round up, instead of pontificating to other countries?

Worth remembering, Lily, that although Leave is portrayed in the media as some kind of organisation for Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells, a good many in the 'Left' are backing Leave - the old-fashioned Left, not the champagne socialist type of 'Left' - if that even means anything nowadays.
And I would scarcely call George Galloway a Right-wing fascist - but he's Leave.
