It's not my kind of film, nor is LaLa Land though I might go and see that as it was filmed in LA and I am told is full of locations I know. Moonlight winning strikes me as backlash against accusations of racism as hardly any black films or actors have been shortlisted in the last few years. LL

That's an interesting read, and pretty much ties in with what folk who work for Trump in Scotland say - that he's actually quite a decent bloke.

A group of right-wing radicals wave Croatian and US flags as they march through downtown Zagreb. The U.S. Embassy in Croatia on Monday strongly denounced the march by far-right nationalists in the Croatian capital who waved an American flag and reportedly voiced support for President Donald Trump.

ZAGREB, Croatia (AP) — The U.S. Embassy in Croatia on Monday strongly denounced a march by far-right nationalists in the capital of Zagreb who waved an American flag and reportedly voiced support for President Donald Trump.

The embassy said in a statement that it "rejects, in the strongest terms, neo-Nazi and pro-Ustasha views expressed during the demonstration of a few people in Zagreb on Sunday." The protesters, dressed in black and chanting slogans used by Croatia's pro-Nazi World War II Ustasha regime, are members of the small, far-right A-HSP party which is not represented in the Croatian parliament.

As they marched through the center of the city, they waved an American flag, as well as the flags of Croatia and the far-right German NPD party. The Ustashas killed tens of thousands Jews, Serbs, Gypsies and anti-Nazi Croats in concentration camps during World War II.

"We condemn any attempt to link the United States to this hateful ideology," the U.S. Embassy said. "Such a suggestion is an affront to the memories of the 186,000 U.S. soldiers who died in Europe fighting Nazi Germany and the many millions of innocent victims killed during World War II."

Police arrested the leader of the extremist A-HSP party after the protest, whose participants also called for the expulsion of "all enemies" from Croatia and its departure from the 28-nation European Union.

Croatia is facing a rise in far-right sentiments, especially against minority Serbs who remained in the country after a war between the two neighbors in the 1990s during the bloody breakup of Yugoslavia.

Stickers with a drawing of a "Serbian family tree" showing people hanging from its branches appeared over the weekend in Croatia's border town of Vukovar. Croatia's government has condemned both the far-right march and the stickers, saying they are "offensive and shameful."

PwC issues apology after Oscars best picture envelope mistake

Accounting firm in charge of vote counting vows to investigate error that led to La La Land being awarded by mistake.

PricewaterhouseCoopers, the accountancy firm that has overseen the counting of the Oscars ballots for 83 years, has apologised for the most spectacular blunder in the history of the starry ceremony – when the award for best film was mistakenly presented to La La Land instead of the actual winner Moonlight.

The company promised to investigate the error after Warren Beatty, who was presenting the best picture award with Faye Dunaway, ended up with the wrong envelope. “We sincerely apologise to Moonlight, La La Land, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for best picture,” PwC said in a statement.

I gather Trump's speech to Congress was, well, Presidential, and was even praised by his foes at CNN.

It was a wonderful speech - his best yet. When he praised Navy SEAL Owens who was killed by the enemy in Yemen, I think that was the most poignant moment I have ever heard a President speak. His widow handled it with such grace, Bless her.

In years to come, it will mean a lot to her that the President recognised her loss so publicly and personally, Lily - Obama never gave the slightest sign of respecting the Armed Forces.

Speaking of respect, the conduct of many of the Dems, in particular those silly cows pretending to be Suffragettes, was just appalling. I don't know what they thought they were going to achieve by such a childish display of pique.

Oscars Will No Longer Work With PwC Accountants Involved in Best Picture Flub

The two PricewaterhouseCoopers accountants responsible for the epic best picture flub at Sunday night’s Oscars will not be invited back by the Academy, the organization’s president Cheryl Boone Issacs told the Associated Press on Wednesday. A spokesperson for the firm confirmed that the two accountants will not participate in future shows.

New photos from backstage at the Academy Awards on Sunday show the accountant charged with handing out envelopes to the presenters at the ceremony captivated by the appearance of Emma Stone, and ignoring Warren Beatty.
Brian Cullinan of PricewaterhouseCoopers can be seen glued to a television monitor broadcasting Stone's acceptance speech for Actress in a Leading Role while holding multiple envelopes and his phone.
Everyone else in the room is looking at Warren Beatty in the photo, who at that moment was hugging Casey Affleck after his Actor in a Leading Role win for Manchester by the Sea.
Cullinan then handed off the wrong envelope to Beatty, but while the Bonnie & Clyde actor was blundering on stage with Faye Dunaway the accountant was completely oblivious to what was going on because he was too busy tweeting his picture of Stone.
