Brexit about to be triggered?
http://news.sky.com/story/live-theresa-may-on-the-brink-of-triggering-brexit-10800371
:: The EU (Notification of Withdrawal) bill returns to the House of Commons
:: The first amendment calls for protection of EU nationals living in the UK
:: A second demands Parliament is given a "meaningful" vote on the final divorce deal
:: The bill is expected to clear the House of Lords without a fight
:: Anti-Brexit protests are expected outside the Houses of Parliament
:: Nicola Sturgeon, threatening a second Scottish independence referendum, is to give a speech
Oh God, a threatening speech from Sturgeon! That'll be a novelty.

Only "significant intervention" Nicola Sturgeon could make today would be to accept that Scotland doesn't need or want another referendum

Quite; Sturgeon is rapidly becoming hated by all but the fanatics.

Re: Brexit about to be triggered?
http://news.sky.com/story/sturgeon-seeks-second-scottish-independence-referendum-10800578
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said she will seek approval next week for a second referendum on Scottish independence.
She said a new vote should be held between autumn 2018 and spring 2019.
Ms Sturgeon said she believed people would now choose to break away from the UK in order to stay in the EU.
Speaking at Bute House in Edinburgh she said: "In my view it is important that Scotland is able to exercise the right to choose our own future at a time when the options are clearer than they are now, but before it is too late to decide our own path."
In September 2014, Scotland voted to stay part of the UK by 55.3% to 44.7%.
Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson tweeted: "Nicola Sturgeon has today chosen the path of further division and uncertainty. We will vote against any request for a Section 30 next week."
More follows...
I hope Ms May tells the lying, incompetent b*tch to get lost, as she is one of the signatories of the Edinburgh Agreement.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/scottish-eu-independence-referendum-scotland-join-queue-membership-apply-a7627201.html
The EU has said an independent Scotland would have to join a queue of nations seeking membership of the bloc, after Nicola Sturgeon announced plans for a second independence referendum.
Wading into the debate on the Scottish government’s plans for a second vote, a spokesperson for the European Commission said Scotland would not be granted automatic access to the EU.

May:
As we negotiate to leave the European Union, I want to negotiate an agreement that is going to work for the whole of the United Kingdom and that includes the Scottish people. That is why we have been working closely with the devolved administrations. We have been listening to their proposals and recognising the many areas of common ground we have, such as protecting workers’ rights and our security from crime and terrorism.
The tunnel vision that the SNP has shown today is deeply regrettable. It sets Scotland on a course for more uncertainty and division, creating huge uncertainty. And this is at a time when the evidence is that the Scottish people, the majority of the Scottish people, do not want a second independence referendum.
So, instead of playing politics with the future of our country, the Scottish government should focus on delivering good government and public services for the people of Scotland. Politics is not a game.

Re: Brexit about to be triggered?
Sky sources: Nicola Sturgeon did not want second referendum yet as she does not think it is winnable - but was pushed into it by former SNP leader Alex Salmond.
It isn't winnable. The SNP itself is on the verge of splitting down the middle about the EU and assorted other things, and only the fanatic Party faithful have the slightest enthusiasm for another divisive referendum.

5 hours in & Sturgeon's crashed & burned already.
EU - Out & join the Queue
NATO - Out & join the Queue
SALMOND - Nicola do as I tell you
Yup. If anyone has ever wondered how Scotland managed to inflict such damage on itself as Flodden, Darien, Culloden, etc - this is how. A lethal combination of utter arrogance - Wha's like us?, inability to grasp logic, and total incompetence.

Re: Brexit about to be triggered?
It's utter madness, Lily. The old guard of the SNP have been pointing out for months the sheer stupidity of even thinking about another referendum right now, let alone based one based on reclaiming powers from Westminster only to hand them over to Berlin and Brussels.
And have been called quislings, shills, and M15 agents for their pains by the party faithful. Seriously.
That's before we even start on the pig's dinner Sturgeon has made of actually running Scotland's domestic affairs.

Re: Brexit about to be triggered?
It took the SNP decades to recover from their foolish quest for allies in the 30s and early 40s, Lily. They worked on the misguided theory that My enemies' enemy is my friend, so no prizes for guessing who they were sucking up to then.
They're doing it all over again, this time sucking up to Merkel and co - which I suppose is an improvement on her moustached predecessor. Well, they've been warned, they've been told they're heading for disaster by people who were leading the party before they were even born - people who have actually had some experience of the real world. Unlike the collection of failed solicitors, and political science graduates who went straight into the party when they left University currently running things.

Meanwhile, in happy EU-land:
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-03-14/powers-be-have-looted-everything-greek-farmers-fight-riot-police-shepherd-crooks
The economic and social disintegration of Greece used to be big news.
However it’s largely been overshadowed by the migrant crisis, and the American media hardly reports on Greece anymore. If you’ve been out of the loop, allow me to get you caught up on the financial situation in that country, by giving two answers to the questions you’re probably thinking. Yes, the Greek government still sucks. And yes, the people of Greece are still really pissed off.
Believe it or not, riots are still a common occurrence in that country. In fact there was an incident last week in Athens, after the government tried to increase taxes and social security contributions. In response, over a thousand farmers from Crete, who used to be immune from these taxes, took a ferry to Athens and proceeded to riot outside of the agriculture ministry building.
This however wasn’t an ordinary riot, not even by Greek standards. The farmers fought the riot police with shepherd crooks.
Maybe if they all hummed Ode to Joy....?

The single market? Only yesterday, she was threatening to inflict this on us because she wanted to stay in the whole EU package, not just the trading bloc....
.....She's scared, IMO, she knows she's heading for disaster if she persists. There are an awful lot of genuinely angry people in Scotland right now because of her grandstanding and incompetence.

Re: Brexit about to be triggered?
Oh FFS, someone phone and get the men in white coats to take her away, this is ridiculous. Though typical of Sturgeon - those outwith Scotland won't have seen her carry on like this before. Many non-Scots still have this misplaced idea that she is competent.

That means there is no mandate for indyref2, if Brexit was the trigger then if the vote is not to rejoin the EU the mandate is void.
Quite. Sturgeon has carried on like this for the last two years, but it's only now that the wider world is seeing how utterly useless she is.
She'll probably have changed her mind again by teatime.

Re: Brexit about to be triggered?
She's got another problem on her hands, because she's made so many people here very, very angry:
https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/180642
Another Scottish independence referendum should not be allowed to happen
We in Scotland are fed up of persecution by the SNP leader who is solely intent on getting independence at any cost. As a result, Scotland is suffering hugely.
It's at just under 130,000 now, and it has to be debated in Westminster as it's gone over the 100,000. If you click on the map link, you can see the hotspots - strangely, mostly the constituencies of the mouthiest SNP MPs.

Re: Brexit about to be triggered?
That's her name on the Edinburgh Agreement, promising that the result of the 2014 referendum would be respected.
That's her and Salmond, declaring in 2014 that it was a once in a lifetime vote.
And here we are, less than three years later, with her wanting to do it again.
Frankly, after losing the referendum, the sensible thing would have been to get down to work and run Scotland as well as humanely possible, and prove she could do a good job.
Instead, she's done nothing but agitate for another referendum, while just about everything has gone to Hell in a handbasket.
No wonder people are angry - including ex-SNP supporters and members. She's doing an Erdogan and playing to the gallery, and to Hell with everything else.
