It was not some writ that a referendum is for life but an observation that perhaps an opportunity which might only occur once in a lifetime.

Re: Brexit about to be triggered?
Rocked by Brexit vote, Gibraltar lays plans for new kind of EU relationship.
But Spain’s readiness to play hardball on UK sovereignty means negotiating a prosperous future for the territory’s businesses will not be a simple matter.
According to more than one member of Gibraltar’s business community, it felt “like someone had died”. The day after Britain’s Brexit vote, this outpost of Albion on Spain’s southern tip was in shock.
The Rock’s residents voted 96% to remain. Its flourishing economy, built around financial services, e-commerce and online gaming, is based on the single market and free movement: every day, nearly half its entire workforce – 12,000 Spanish and other EU nationals – commute across the border.
Worse, Madrid has made it clear that it views the UK’s eventual departure from the European Union as its best chance in three centuries to reclaim sovereignty over a territory it has regretted ceding to Britain ever since 1713.

There are models: Andorra, Greenland, Liechtenstein.
I suspect that will be the solution to the problem - at least until Spain needs a cause to divert attention from its own social and economic woes.

Martin McGuinness played a huge role in bringing about peace in Northern Ireland. He was a great family man and my thoughts are with them
Yes, because nothing says 'family man' like dragging women out of their homes, torturing and murdering them, throwing their corpses into bogs, and refusing to tell their children where their mother's remains are.
Oh, and blowing up little boys out buying cards for their mum. And any of the other scummy things McGuinness and his terrorists did.
I wonder what was going through the Queen's mind when she had to shake hands with someone who plotted to murder her?
Who was responsible for the murders of members of her family?
I had to put the news off, because the tears from the 'progressives' were so nauseating.

No, hen, you don't.
You are a minority government being kept in office by the Greens' list MSPs, who seem to have forgotten they are supposed to be an opposition party.

UK-based airlines told to move to Europe after Brexit or lose major routes.
Exclusive: Fears for UK jobs as EU officials say airlines will need to move base and majority of shareholders to fly routes within Europe.
EU chiefs have warned airlines including easyJet, Ryanair and British Airways that they will need to relocate their headquarters and sell off shares to European nationals if they want to continue flying routes within continental Europe after Brexit.
Goldman Sachs to move hundreds of staff out of London due to Brexit

Executives at major carriers have been reminded during recent private meetings with officials that to continue to operate on routes across the continent – for instance, from Milan to Paris – they must have a significant base on EU territory and that a majority of their capital shares must be EU-owned.
The development, coming days before the triggering of article 50, potentially makes it more likely that the carriers will act to restructure, with economic consequences for the UK, including a loss of jobs.
The tough line from the EU may encourage the UK to reciprocate with its own nationality rules, which would leave EU-owned airlines facing equally difficult choices, potentially dampening their investment in the UK in the short term, although some may seek in time to establish their own British subsidiaries.

Threatening Ryanair isn't an awfully good idea.....O'Leary bites back. And surely its HQ is in Dublin? Frankly, this sounds like a scam to get their paws on shares in UK airlines.

UK absent as EU leaders seek unity on 60th birthday.
European Union leaders celebrated the 60th anniversary of the bloc's founding treaties at a special summit in Rome on Saturday in a symbolic show of unity despite Britain's looming departure.
Meeting without Britain, the other 27 member countries will endorse a declaration of intent for the next decade, on the Capitoline Hill where six founding states signed the Treaty of Rome on March 25, 1957.

http://news.sky.com/story/douglas-carswell-ukips-sole-mp-quits-party-to-become-independent-10813401
UKIP's only MP Douglas Carswell has announced he will be leaving the party but will stay on as independent.
In a statement posted on his website, Mr Carswell said he would be quitting the party, with the Prime Minister due to trigger the formal Article 50 divorce process from the EU on Wednesday.
He wrote: "Like many of you, I switched to UKIP because I desperately wanted us to leave the EU. Now we can be certain that that is going to happen, I have decided that I will be leaving UKIP.
"I will not be switching parties, nor crossing the floor to the Conservatives, so do not need to call a by-election, as I did when switching from the Conservatives to UKIP.
"I will simply be the Member of Parliament for Clacton, sitting as an independent. I will leave UKIP amicably, cheerfully and in the knowledge that we won."
:: Your guide to Brexit jargon
He paid tribute to party members and supporters, and added that although UKIP has not won many seats in Parliament, "in a way, we are the most successful political party in Britain ever".
He added he would now focus on tackling problems affecting the NHS in Clacton.
The resignation comes after a public spat between Mr Carswell and the party's largest financial backer, Arron Banks, who is a close ally of former leader Nigel Farage.
Mr Farage told Sky News Political Correspondent Tamara Cohen: "He jumped before he was pushed, he should have gone some time ago.
"Whilst he was sincere about Brexit, he was never UKIP and constantly tried to undermine and divide us.
"I felt the day after he was elected he was saying things that weren't really UKIP."
An appropriate day to flounce, I suppose.

Scottish lawmakers back independence referendum call
EDINBURGH, Scotland (AP) — Scottish lawmakers voted Tuesday to seek a new referendum on independence, presenting the British government with an unwelcome distraction as it prepares to push the European Union exit button.
The Edinburgh-based legislature voted 69-59 to ask the U.K. government to sanction an independence vote that would be held within the next two years. Outside, several dozen independence supporters bearing Scottish and EU flags broke into cheers and tears of joy as they heard the news.
Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, who asked lawmakers to authorize her to request the referendum, says Scots must be given the chance to vote on their future before Britain leaves the European Union. More at link.

Oh, don't remind me, the next few years are going to be unbearable.
Sturgeon has done NOTHING but shout about Toarries! Referendum! ever since she took office, while Scottish schools, hospitals, the economy, everything, goes down the toilet.
These absolute ar@es:

'History's greatest BLUNDER!' Germans mock Brits' Brexit vote as PM triggers Article 50
BRITAIN has been warned it is making “history’s greatest blunder” by forging ahead with Brexit and freeing itself from the shackles of the European Union.
Oh, it's nothing in comparison to smuggling Bolsheviks into Russia to overthrow the legitimate government.
Or invading the Soviet Union. In shiny boots.
Or inviting half the Middle East to come and live in Germany, thereby doing more for Brexit than Farange could ever have dreamed of.
