They are clinging to the last shreds of their delusions, Tony.

They think Gonc is this epitome of respectability, driven out of his job by the evil Brits, their hero who has been fighting for the Truth and Justice all this time.

The rest of the world knows what he really is - an oaf and a bully, with a drink problem, whose life was in chaos long before the McCanns ever had the misfortune to even hear his name.

He's washed up, his own lawyer and old friend wants nothing to do with him. For whatever reason, he is persona non grata in the Algarve, where he strutted around for so long.

He hasn't even got the guts to face Isabel Duarte in court, has he? After all, he has an Ace up his Sleeve - surely he can produce his own Ace?

Problem is, there never was an Ace, there never was any 'withheld evidence'. There was only Gonc, and his delusions and his nasty vendetta, and a bunch of idiots who were fooled by all this.

The burden of proof lies on Amaral's shoulders. He has got to prove beyond a shadow of doubt, Madeleine is dead. He can't say it is reasonable to believe she is, he has got to prove she is. His freezer theory, he has to prove this also. He cannot again say, he believes she was kept in one, he has to prove she was.
The Forensic department who tested the evidence from the vehicle could not get a complete DNA from the material. Also nowhere in the report does it say the evidence came from a frozen cadaver. Nor, could they say such a thing unless, they recieved a piece of ice containing human DNA. All they could say is, they have DNA which has a count relating to Madeleine and her family. Madeleine's blood, was not found anywhere in the vehicle or the Apartment. So if she died, no one knows where.
Amaral, has to prove everything he has said in his book is true and honest, he can't, therefor, he flucked! Unless of course he has Madeleine up his sleeve!

Lilly, I don't have to explain anything. I post if I think I should post. Posters believe me or don't believe me. It's their choice. I only confirmed it 2 or 3 minutes before I posted it here. In this case, I wasn't asked secrecy. Other times, I was. When I am asked secrecy, I always keep my promise. That means one of two things. I keep it to myself or I share it without a source and wait for people to believe me. When I decide to share it it's usually because people are speculating and unfounded rumours are circulating. I think I should stop caring about the rumours and keep things more to myself. It's safer that way, it seems.

I don't think it was Gonc's choice. I believe it was the lawyer's.

I am sure I remember that, at the time the first trial was postponed because the lawyer's secretary's desktop had swine flu rumors were flying that Gonc and Cabrita had a bust-up over money, and that that was the real reason it was delayed?

My comments caused the initial concerns on this thread and there was never any intention to have a go at Portugal or our Portuguese friends. I too am frustrated that the trial has been postponed. My original concern surrounded how GA should suddenly decide, a matter of weeks before the trial that his former lawyer know lives too far away, when we know how critical the British have been about the efficiency of the PJ. Legal representation travel the length and breath of the country to represent their clients, that is what they get paid to do, I do not understand what logistics has got to do with it. If GA had merely came out and said he was not happy with the standard or quality of his representation then that is sometning completely different.

I personally don't see the problem; when there was only a telephone for contact purposes then having your lawyer close at hand was a good thing. It's as plain as the nose on your face. Amaral and Cabrita have had a major bust up, and I doubt it was about money or distance.
Cabrita has travelled to Lisbon before, for the other Trials, and all of the groundwork is done now, so it can only be about Amaral's refusal to take the advice of his seasoned Lawyer who looked like a pillock during the original Injunction Case when Amaral's buddies made Amaral look like a pillock. No Lawyer would want to go through that again.

And I can't help wondering if Amaral's buddies are still on side. Who was it who said that there is a 50/50 chance that Madeleine is still alive? There isn't much point in repeating that in Court as it is on record. And I don't suppose that Paiva much wants to repeat his Dream Theory.

That was the Attorney General, wasn't it, Sabot? I suspect you are right, his erstwhile allies are trying to put clear blue water between themselves and Gonc.

And I doubt if Paiva wants to be associated any more with 'witchhunts' after his eyes were opened.

Just to say that I believe for his own ends, Amaral wants Marcos' case to be tried first. And that is the only reason why Cabrita is unavailable. Maybe I am wrong?

Keeping an Ace up his Sleeve would be With Holding Evidence. This is a Crime, so Gonc would have been committing a crime for nearly five years now. If he has then he deserves to be lynched for endangering a child.

You are forgetting - the Corriea case is criminal, not civil. Amaral will be represented by the prosecutor, not his own lawyer.

Also, don't forget that, according to the Gospel According to Saint Gonc, the Evil Mccanns have ruined his life, bankrupted him, etc.
