He didn't even know Marcos hadn't represented himself, for starters. It rather wrecked his rabble-rousing as it sank in that Ms Duarte was his representative in Faro, so she wasn't going to be too phased about Gonc getting used as a floor mop by the court.

And he did omit that rather important part of Portuguese law....

He didn't even grasp that it was a CRIMINAL case and the upcoming libel action is CIVIL. And he didn't mention the section of Portuguese law which is going to sink Gonc for once and for all.

The rest of them seem to have calmed down, after yesterday's outbreak of smiffy-induced hysteria, thankfully.

On the subject of books....I know it's hard not feel sorry for all those poorly educated forkers and hounders who don't know how to spell 'book'. They must really struggle in the world, as they are clearly only semi-literate.

It's widely believed that most of them come from backgrounds where books are rarities - indeed, they probably think the Argos catalogue is a book. They've probably heard better-educated people talking about books, but don't know how the word is actually spelled.

Can't think of any other explanation for so many of them thinking 'book' is spelled 'bewk'. That must be what it sounds like to them, as they struggle to understand what better-educated people are discussing.

But, bless them for trying, though! They do manage to get two letters out of the four correct! Well done them!

Did you ever know how many semi literate people there are in UK? I've heard of this but didn't quite believe it.
I was Secondary School Educated and left School at Fifteen from Classrooms containing in excess of 30 Pupils, and without a single Certificate of any kind. And there is nothing illiterate or innumerate about me. So what went wrong?

Maybe it's because no-one is supposed to point out the errors of the less-literate in these PC days, Sabot? Once, kindly people would have corrected them when they spelled book 'bewk' and have 'off', but no-one really likes to offend them now?

But that sort of thing is supposed to be done in Schools, Bonny. I thought that this was what School was all about. But these days they leave school not knowing the first thing about Grammar or Spelling, let alone 6x7 is 42. So whose fault is this?
This was one of the reasons for why I beggared myself to send my children to Public School. But at least I would have been able to correct them myself.

I am convinced that they only read what they themselves write, unless they get a direct reply. This sends them off on a "High" because someone actually read what they wrote, and actually noticed them. So they compete to get attention.

The difference between Have, Of, and Off are really not that important, because we understand what she means, and she's a sick bitch anyway. All rather sad, if you ask me, and probably not her fault.
