Re: Gardening Thread.
I didn't know about it, Sabot, I came across it by accident, but it has some excellent - and simple - advice on it.

Re: Gardening Thread.
I've just watched the Ivy video, Bonny, and I might be able to utilise some of that. I've got a couple of very old Rose bushes growing in front of it so I shall have to be a bit careful is all. But it could make it easier to remove the top stuff. I always wreck finger nails when I do this job.

Yes, I watched that too, as I have rather a lot of ivy. There doesn't seem to be a happy medium between a little ivy looking pretty, and ivy eating the house.

Re: Gardening Thread.
It's a constant battle, Bonny. And as she said, almost impossible to eradicate, so I have learned to live with it and keep it vaguely under control. I do chop off the seed buds when they start to form, and I hoik out any new seedlings I find.

If anyone is searching for inspiration, it's the Chelsea flower show:

Re: Gardening Thread.
The whole show looks nice this year, Lily. There are sometimes some rather, well, peculiar, ideas in it. Though probably the giant tree thingy the Chelsea Pensioners are pictured in would be in that category - a bit hard to recreate at home.

Re: Gardening Thread.
It's pretty scorchio here too. I am now reduced to watering my grass seed.
But all of The Wisteria are in flower and so are both of my Clematis. One Purple and . one bright Pink. Clematis is another beautiful climbing plant that doesn't take up much room, although I didn't grow those myself. I bought them in a Sale, looking a bit neglected.
Anyway, they all look lovely now.

Re: Gardening Thread.
Sticky and very warm here with sharp showers and I have just heard some thunder. We are getting the back end of the depression that has been over Italy, and is now moving across Croatia and up into the Balkans. Snails are promenading outside each time the rain stops and the sun peers through. One of my Hostas is getting enormous, waiting on the lovely flowers. The newer one is just getting settled in to his new home -are hostas male or female? LL

Re: Gardening Thread.
Aviemore is, apparently, hotter than Ibiza today:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2148751/UK-weather-forecast-Scotland-posts-hottest-day-year-UK--27C-warmer-Mediterranean-party-island.html
Even odder, the area looked like this last week:
Temperatures have soared by 25c degrees in six days....

We're all DOOMED, DOOMED, I tell ya. Hell Fire and Damnation looms.
PS. Can I come and stay, Bonny? It's bound to get hotter here first.

That's a bit much, Lily, we are expecting a more tolerable 20c, which is excellent.

Re: Gardening Thread.
Yes it is, Bonny. We also have sand storms so it's like a strange colored mist all around you.
I prefer what you have.

Re: Gardening Thread.
Yes, but do they make your eyes feel gritty? I think I would rather stick to the UK variety of mists.

Good point; at least the damp keeps the grit on the ground....

Re: Gardening Thread.
It is the grittiness and having to shield your eyes from the sand being blown in your face which is horrid.
Bonny, I would absolutely love some rain to dampen it all down but the weather can only go one way........hotter!

You can come here and do my garden, Lily, and I'll go and help Bonny. It is 28 degrees in my garden at the moment, and that's at 9 pm.

Oh that's hot, Sabot....I have just been outside, and I would guess it's about 15-16c now, which is a pleasant evening/night temperature.
