Re: Gardening Thread.
Much safer, Sabot, you needed a chemistry degree and protective clothing with the powder stuff. I'm actually surprised the dry stuff is still widely available.

Re: Gardening Thread.
The dry caustic stuff is still on the shelves here, Bonny. In fact the Bang bottle says to use it if Bang doesn't work. But there is stuff in French about certain types of material that you can't use it with, none of which made any sense to me. Mind you, I had a bit of difficulty with understanding Bang, but you told me it was okay. Ha ha.

Another glorious day....I really am not sure what is happening. I didn't think that big orange thing was ever going to come back.

Re: Gardening Thread.
Cut half an acre of grass today, and my own grass, amid what currently passes for sun. But at least it didn't rain.
Meanwhile, someone has been emptying septic tanks and spreading shit on a field near me. However, the stench doesn't last for very long, only about an hour. But I can't help wondering if Brussels knows about this. Not that The French care. They just ignore things if it doesn't suit them. And I don't care either. 30 Euros if the local farmer empties my tank, and 100 Euros plus VAT if an accredited shit shifter does it. No contest really.

Re: Gardening Thread.
Pleasant here again, Sabot, I am having to water things...the weather seems to be doing something odd again, according to the Portuguese press, they're having a rotten summer, and it's only a few degrees warmer than the UK.
Oh dear, real, genuine, French-type merde? I'm sure the EU wouldn't allow that....

Re: Gardening Thread.
Actually, it was my neighbour's tank being emptied, and he's a Brit. One of the few good ones who actually works hard, and doesn't moan perpetually. My IT man actually.
He does a paper round starting at 5 o'clock in the morning, which I think is screamingly funny. Paper rounds encompass many several miles around here.

Re: Gardening Thread.
These seem to be about average UK rates, Sabot -

Don't know if that is more or less than your area...

Re: Gardening Thread.
Thanks, Bonny. Sounds about what I thought.
I am thinking of going into the dog sitting business. Everything here is geared for dogs, so why not. Still no dog of my own. Still looking.

The right one will come along, Sabot, it alway does. I don't know how many times I've sworn, No more dogs, because it's so awful when they pass...
And six months later, there's dogs sleeping all over the furniture again

Re: Gardening Thread.
Yep, Bonny. I'll know it when I see it. It's just taking a bit of a long time.
Anyway, if I do Dog Sit I won't have to worry about the furniture. It's all wrecked already. I've just covered it up.

Re: Gardening Thread.
Not Scorchio here. But at least no sign of rain for a few days. So I shall be mass weed killing today with Roundup. This cost me 30 Euros, but at least it's the kind that allows you to plant fairly quickly afterwards, so I shan't feel guilty about using it.
Not in my own garden, I hasten to add. I wouldn't use any of that crap anywhere near me, no matter what it says on the bottle. And at least I can pass on the cost to my clients, who incidentally, expect me to keep down their weeds but don't want to pay me for the time consuming job of pulling them by hand.

Re: Gardening Thread.
It was bizarre, Sabot....I got up a good few hours back, opened the front door to let the dogs out for widdles, ect., - and was hit by a WAVE of heat!
It must have been 70f at 8 am, and it's getting hotter and hotter....
No, I don't use weedkiller either, nasty stuff.

Re: Gardening Thread.
Jeez, you should see the weeds in my clients' gardens, Lily. Monstrous. But no point in using weed killer sooner because it would have been washed away.
And the brambles aren't funny either. This gardening lark can be a dangerous job at times.

Pics of Brits staring in awe at the big orange thing in the sky, removing layers of clothing to reveal the world's whitest flesh, and jumping in the water:

Re: Gardening Thread.
If the British Isles had a climate instead of weather, most would never bother going abroad, as all they really want to do is take off layers of clothes and jump into open water without dying of hypothermia

Of course Brits wouldn't bother going abroad. You don't catch tourists going to britain for the weather.
