Re: Gardening Thread.
Okay. I have had some difficulty with containing my soul in patience for the last two weeks. And still ongoing. But The Wisterias are nearly out in bloom. And still no damaging frost, yet. Not that this couldn't still happen.
All three of them are covered in buds. Nine long years I have waited for this, since first planting the seeds. And if that isn't hope over experience then I don't know what is.
The two Clematis are also looking good. I cut both of them down to two feet every Winter, although this really isn't me as I hate cutting back anything.
Must get a digital camera.
All three of my lovely boys, of the human kind, have been here to see me. Probably just checking up on their inheritance. But I now have a working kitchen sink trap, which they had to bring with them, due the previous British, pillock owner using a British one, which you cant buy here.
At least, it was working, until it decided to block itself. Not sure what I am going to do about that. I haven't forgotten the last time I had to dig up the garden some six years ago.
I still haven't got a lovely boy of the Canine kind, but Pembroke Corgis aren't in abundance around here.

Re: Gardening Thread.
Can't you use Monsieur Muscle, Sabot? Or does that do terrible things to your septic tank?
Brief weather report - sunny, with showers, and warm-ish. Like spring, in fact - things are finally growing. Especially the ground elder.

Re: Gardening Thread.
Not sure about Mr. Muscle or Bang, Bonny. Is it safe with plastic pipes? The Sink Waste water doesn't go into the shit tank so probably wouldn't do any great harm.
Meanwhile, I am using eco friendly bleach and boiling water which has helped a bit. Sometimes I wish I had a degree in micro biology.

Yes, it's OK on plastic, Sabot - I think it's metal pipes that could cause a problem due to chemical reactions, or something?

Re: Gardening Thread.
Silly me, Bonny. It comes in a plastic bottle, for Christ's sake. I bought some when the drain blocked six years ago but I was too afraid to use it.

Re: Gardening Thread.
It's very good, though less, er, exciting, than actual caustic soda - now that stuff IS dangerous.

Re: Gardening Thread.
Tonight's the night, Bonny. I am going to risk it. Just waiting for the pipe to completely empty.
Still dull and a bit wet here. I am beginning to despair.
But I have painted a couple of exterior doors. Going to start on the shutters this afternoon. I've got proper shutters, not that rubbish that you can lift from outside.

Something very strange happening.....it's HOT outside. I can't remember when it was last HOT outside.
And the sky's changed colour.
It's blue, with a big orangey-yellow thing in it.

Re: Gardening Thread.
God knows. My comment is back now.
But it might have been because I said that I had grown three Wisteria from seed which had all flowered within seven years. According to Bob Flowerdew, this is impossible, despite being true in my case. Even I was gobsmacked when it happened, three times.

Re: Gardening Thread.
So, Mail readers can post racist rants, hate speech, the lot - but God forbid anyone should reveal that they've grown wisteria from seed? Right......

Re: Gardening Thread.
The oddest thing is that I've got lots of Green Arrows. So who is reporting Eleanor of France?
I did casually mention that all Wisteria growers are mad, and so they are. I've already got hooks lined up to stretch two of them along the house walls.
And all for two weeks of flowers. The rest of the time they just sit there and cause hard work up ladders, and trips to the Tip to get rid of the rubbish.

Re: Gardening Thread.
I have got Broad Beans, and quite a lot of them. Mostly from the seed beans that I nicked from my neighbour's garden. Unfortunately, I don't know what variety they are, so I will have to save some seed beans from this year's crop.
Apart from two not very advanced Squash plants, that's it. This year has been a disaster.
However, two bottles of Bang later, I have unblocked the kitchen sink pipe. This beats digging up the garden.

Re: Gardening Thread.
It worked, did it? Good stuff, that. Actual caustic soda was always rather exciting to use.....
Following our heatwave, it is now grey and rainy again. It was still more sun than we got for the whole of last summer.

Re: Gardening Thread.
The stuff I was already in possession of was actually Caustic, Bonny, hence my reluctance to use it. These things always come with instructions in French , which makes things a bit difficult. But I didn't like the sound of it, so bought what you suggested. Which as you noted, does work, even though it took two bottles.
I will now do it on a fairly regular basis, as believe it or not, it doesn't harm septic tanks. That much I do understand in French.

Re: Gardening Thread.
The dry stuff you -very carefully - mixed yourself could be dramatic, Sabot, the modern gels, etc., are much safer.

Yes, it is dry stuff that you mix. But I got the distinct impression that it could well have blown the pipe apart altogether.
Anyway, I am glad I mentioned the problem, and grateful for your advice.

Re: Gardening Thread.
Ah, X purposes, I thought you got the gel. Yes, the powder stuff heats up as you mix it, and gives off horrible fumes if you aren't very careful.

No, no, I've still got the dry Caustic stuff. I didn't use it. I bought the Bang Gell instead. Thanks to you.
