As most of Shropsire is riddled by old disused coal mines, don't think there is any gas there to frack.  I know you have to have a Coal Board safety certificate when buying a house in Telford, for instance.   LL

Earthquake confirmed in Bristol Channel

An earthquake has been recorded under the Bristol Channel, the British Geological Survey (BGS) has confirmed.

The 4.1 magnitude quake happened at about 13:21 GMT and was felt in Devon, south Wales and Somerset.

The epicentre was north of Ilfracombe, Devon, and south of the Gower, in Wales, and was at a depth of 3.1 miles (5km).

Devon and Cornwall Police said one caller in North Devon described it as "quite a violent tremor".

The BGS said it had received reports of people feeling the quake in Dartmoor, Bristol, Taunton, Swansea, Llanelli, Exmouth, Barnstaple, Gloucester and South Molton.

It's the same as a truck going by isn't it, LL?  rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl  The difference is that California is on active faults.

Thanks Bonny. 4.1 is noticeable for sure. This is certainly strange but a 4.1 occurred on Valentines Day in S. Carolina here in the US.

Oh my, look what has been uncovered by the storms:

Gardening Thread. - Page 9 Article-2564285-1BAA8BD300000578-622_964x639

Surreal seascape revealed by the storms: Ancient oaks and pines from 5,000-year-old forest rise as Welsh beach is washed away
The ancient forest was covered in peat before eventually being swallowed by the sea
Legends say trees and nearby township were flooded after a priestess neglected a magical well
Conditions inside the peat, devoid of oxygen and slightly alkaline, have meant the stumps survived
They were uncovered by the latest set of storms which washed away the peat layer

There was a very weird occurence in that area some 400 years ago:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol_Channel_floods,_1607

On 30 January 1607, floods resulted in the drowning of an estimated 2,000 or more people, with houses and villages swept away, an estimated 200 square miles (51,800 ha) of farmland inundated and livestock destroyed,[1] wrecking the local economy along the coasts of the Bristol Channel and Severn Estuary, in what was then the Kingdom of England.
The devastation was particularly severe on the Welsh side, extending from Laugharne in Carmarthenshire to above Chepstow in Monmouthshire. Cardiff was the most badly affected town, with the foundations of St Mary's Church destroyed.[2]
The coasts of Devon and the Somerset Levels as far inland as Glastonbury Tor, 14 miles (23 km) from the coast, were also affected. The sea wall at Burnham-on-Sea gave way,[3] and the water flowed over the low lying levels and moors. Thirty villages in Somerset were affected, including Brean which was "swallowed up" and where seven out of the nine houses were destroyed with 26 of the inhabitants dying. For ten days the Church of All Saints at Kingston Seymour, near Weston-super-Mare, was filled with water to a depth of 5 feet (1.5 m). A chiselled mark remains showing that the maximum height of the water was 7.74 metres above sea level.[4][5]

It was thought to be a warning from God then. Now, people debate whether it was a storm surge or a tsunami.

It's odd that there are old folk memories of a similar event thousands of years ago; I wonder if those are part of the world-wide Flood legends, which appear in many different cultures?

http://news.sky.com/story/1217473/flood-spending-claim-contradicted-by-watchdog

David Cameron's boast that flood defence spending will increase under his leadership has been contradicted by the UK's statistics watchdog, which claims the budget has actually been cut by £250m.

Oops. Never mind, he's got billions to give to the Ukraine.

I really don't know what to say about this latest piece of insanity. Britain doesn't owe aid to these people for any reason at all. They aren't even on the current list.
But unless they nick my Winter Fuel Allowance to cover it then it won't affect me in any way.

Camerons' Bullington Boys bankster pals can make money out of the Ukraine, Sabot, that's all you need to know.

What, you didn't think your NI and tax contributions mattered to them, did you?

You bet they will make a killing out of it. You must understand though that there is no corruption anywhere in politics.

What will happen when the necessary payback for the enormous debt comes calling? Making more money out of the population stuck with the bill?

A good news story for once - I'd wondered what happened to the guy who built his own flood defences:

Man the barricades: Mr Notaro built high mud banks around his house to hold back the rising waters, which have now begun to retreat
