Kate and Gerry McCann arrive in Lisbon

Kate and Gerry McCann have returned to Portugal for the latest hearing in their ongoing libel suit against a former police chief.

The couple are said to be hopeful they will be able to deliver personal statements to the trial at Lisbon's Palace of Justice after the case was adjourned last month.

It happened when Goncalo Amaral sacked his lawyer in what the McCanns claimed was a "blatant and cynical" attempt to hold up proceedings.

The had travelled to Lisbon on what was due to be the last day of the long-running trial over Mr Amaral's book, The Truth Of The Lie.

It would be good if the UK media could pick up on this. Gonzo's most fervent supporters and allies are the very ones that have been making death threats, kidnap threats, etc., to the McCanns, and stalking and harrassing them and their families and friends.

Gonzo should be judged by the company he keeps - mostly bottom-feeding, thuggish scum.

Seems like Kate McCann has done a first class job of demonstrating to the judge just how much damage Goncoward has done to Madeleine, and the wider McCann family.

And the recent vandalism in Portugal by his groupies speaks for itself, of course.

Kate McCann's young son asked her about allegations by a former Portuguese police chief that she killed her daughter Madeleine, she told a court in Portugal today.

She was giving a personal statement at Lisbon's Palace of Justice in the libel case brought by her and husband Gerry against Goncalo Amaral over claims he made in a book about their four-year-old daughter's disappearance during a family holiday in Praia da Luz in the Algarve in 2007.

She told the court her son Sean - who was two-years-old when Madeleine went missing - heard about Amaral's allegations on the radio while travelling on the school bus.

"Sean asked me in October 'Mr Amaral said you killed Madeleine'. I just said that he said a lot of silly things," she said.
