Pope Francis referred to an “Arab invasion” during a speech to a French Christian group this week, adding that Europe has been enhanced by previous influxes of people.
The pontiff also noted that Europe has seen many invasions over the course of its history, according to excerpts of the comments posted on the website of the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano.
Europe has been facing huge waves of migrants and asylum seekers, many of them from Syria and Iraq. While the seemingly endless streams of people have led to tension among the 28 nations of the European Union, some political leaders have said the newcomers should be seen as a new resource.
“Today we can talk about an Arab invasion,” the Roman Catholic leader said in the comments dated Thursday. “It is a social fact.”
L’Osservatore Romano reported the pope hastened to add Europe has always been able to “go forward and find itself enhanced by the exchange among cultures,” after saying that Europe is the “only continent that can bring about a certain unity to the world.”
The number of Syrians seeking asylum doubled to 362,800 last year and the number of Iraqis jumped to 121,500, the European Commission said Friday.
Enhanced my ar@e! Why does he think the Vatican has HUGE walls around it?

The Leonine Wall, which defines the Leonine City, was constructed by Pope Leo IV following the sacking by Muslim raiders of Old St. Peter's Basilica in 846.[2] Built from 848 to 852 as the only extension ever made to the walls of Rome, this three-kilometre wall completely encircled the Vatican Hill for the first time in its history.[3] An abortive start had been made by Leo III, but disturbances in the city had suspended work, and the Romans dismantled the sections that had been begun and used them in private constructions.[4] Pope Leo IV used his estate workers, inhabitants from the surrounding countryside, Saracens captured after the sea battle of Ostia in 849 and funding from an imperial Frankish donation, to construct the wall, which ran in an enclosing U-shape from the riverbank at Hadrian's Mausoleum, soon to be Christened the Castel Sant'Angelo, up the slopes of the Vatican hill encircling the basilica and descending again to the river. The walling was constructed of tuff and tiling, forty feet high, with 44 strong towers at bowshot intervals. The massive round corner tower that still crowns the Vatican hill has its origins in this construction campaign.[5]
Three new gates gave access to the newly enclosed Borgo. Two were in the stretch of wall that led back from the Castel Sant'Angelo: a small postern gate behind the fortified Mausoleum, called the Posterula S. Angeli and later, from its proximity to the Castello, the Porta Castelli, and a larger one, the principal gate through which emperors passed, near the church of St. Peregrino, called the Porta Peregrini, later the Porta S. Petri.[6] A third gate opened the Leonine City to the rione of Trastevere. A festival celebrated the official completion of the walling, 27 June 852.[7]
In addition, chain towers were built along the Tiber river to repel Saracen assaults by water.[8]
Thanks, Pope, but I think I'll pass on the 'enhancement'.

The Pope had better pray he never finds out for himself just why his less moonbat predecessors built those massive walls...I doubt if John Paul II would have come out with nonsense like this.

The Balkan route taken by hundreds of thousands of migrants to Europe is going to be closed, EU leaders will declare Monday at their summit with Turkey in Brussels, diplomats and officials said over the weekend.
Their statement — to be approved by leaders on Monday — was discussed by EU ambassadors on Sunday afternoon. “Irregular flows of migrants along the Western Balkans route are coming to an end; this route is now closed,” according to a copy of the document obtained by POLITICO.
The ones stuck in Greece are going to go ballistic.

Thank God for Orban, LL, events are daily proving him right.
Ron Paul can be a bit of a conspiraloon, but he's another one who is often proven right by events. He caught on to a lot of things, long before they became mainstream, and is generally one of the good guys. His son Rand doesn't quite measure up......

Re: Hungary is new hot spot on migrant route into EU - Part 2
Britain has a ‘genuine and justified’ fear of mass immigration, the Archbishop of Canterbury declared last night.
The country’s most senior churchman said it was ‘absolutely outrageous’ to dismiss the public’s legitimate concerns as racist.
Archbishop Justin Welby warned: ‘There is a genuine fear. And it is really important that that fear is listened to and addressed. There have to be resources put in place that address those fears.’
He added: ‘What happens about housing? What happens about jobs? What happens about access to health services?’
Campaign groups last night welcomed his powerful intervention as a ‘marvellous breath of fresh air’. It comes after years in which the liberal Left has attacked those expressing concern about the unprecedented levels of immigration into Britain as bigots.
Archbishop Welby also revealed that the Church would not be taking a position in the EU referendum debate.
He was highly critical of Europe’s response to the refugee crisis, but added: ‘You can’t say, “God says you must vote this way or that way”.

He's still being a bit moonbatty later on - he seems to think this disaster can somehow be managed - but it's a huge step for someone in his position to say all this.
And at least he doesn't think that being in or out of Europe is somehow God's will.....

Nothing unusual there. Hungarians usually enjoy discommoding their leaders especially on National Day!! LLMarch 9th, 2016
Anti-terror unit to lock down areas near Orbán March 15 holiday speech as gov’t faces new protests
By Zoltán Szécsi, hvg.hu
The Anti-Terrorist Center (TEK) special police unit will close down the neighborhood of the National Museum in Budapest on the March 15 national holiday due to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán giving a speech there, hvg.hu reports.
TEK will close down a sizable area in Budapest’s inner city on March 15 from midnight to 1 PM because of an “official state event held by the participation of a protected person”, that is, the speech Orbán has held every year at the place where the Revolution of 1848 started.
The closure will not affect the demonstration organized by the Civil Society for Hungary, who also signed up to hold a commemoration at the same premises and got a court approval to do so, even though their event will take place a couple hundred meters away, at Kálvin tér. Zoltán Büki, the organization’s leader, told daily Népszabadság that they are not going to disturb Orbán’s speech, but are planning to cause him an “an unpleasant surprise” by holding a “special performance.”
Another demonstration will be held on March 15 in the afternoon at Hősök tere, where the Tanítanék (I Would Teach) civil group has summoned the supporters of the recent teacher protests against the over-centralization of public education. Teachers, students, parents and sympathizers will march on Andrássy út all the way to Parliament.

Re: Hungary is new hot spot on migrant route into EU - Part 2
The Scots part of me appreciates the uncompromising side of the Magyar people, while the Austrian half tends to step back from their more, shall we say upfront, stance on various matters. But I will say that, if a Magyar accepts you into their circle, then you have a lifelong friend who will guard your back for you even in the most dire moments. They don't give their friendship lightly; they are, in many ways, a rather distant people, probably due to being the odd one in Eorope re their language, which has no connection whatsoever with the main languages of Europe, though they do have a distant root relationship to Estonian, Finnish and Livonian, a dialect of a small area in Russia. They do though have a super wicked sense of the absurd!!!! LLbb1 wrote:I like the robust approach Hungarians take to things, LL!

Re: Hungary is new hot spot on migrant route into EU - Part 2
What is being celebrated in Hungary (14 March is also a 'Bank'Holiday) full events tomorrow:
The Revolution on 15th March 1848
The revolutionary wave that had swept over Europe in spring 1848 resulted in a bloodless revolution in Hungary on 15th March. A bunch of Hungarian poets and writers formed the core of the radicals.
They were preparing for a demonstration on 19th March at their regular meeting place, the Café Pilvax.
They heard the news of the revolution in Vienna on the evening of 14th March so they decided to bring forward the demonstration.
The revolutionaries started to gather people while reciting Petőfi’s National Song and reading their demands worded in the 12 points (kids at school has to learn it by heart when they learn about the Revolution).
The most important demands were:
freedom of press, abolition of censure
freedom of religion
a national bank
jury
abolition of feudal conditions
The mass lead by Petőfi in the pouring rain occupied a press and printed out the poem and the 12-points. The Hapsburgs didn’t dare to intervene. Despite the rain an even bigger crowd gathered in the garden of the National Museum by afternoon.
Following the events on 15th March a Hungarian delegation went to Vienna to tell their demands to Ferdinand V. After several discussions the Habsburgs accepted an independent Hungarian ministry lead by Count Lajos Batthyány. “We swear unto thee – that slaves we shall no longer be!”
In summer 1848 Vienna decided to take action against the Hungarian revolution. The ethnic minorities living in Hungary weren’t happy with the Hungarians’ victory. The Croats allied with Austria and their troops attacked and invaded Hungary.
Despite the Habsburgs’ more power and larger army, they weren’t strong enough to defeat Hungarians so Austria convinced Russia to provide support for breaking down the Hungarian War of Independence.
Despite being a small country, Hungary humiliated Austria by fighting tooth and nail and she emphasized this by surrendering not to the Emperor but to the Russian Czar in August 1849.
Age of Terror
Following the defeat, retribution began. Fourteen generals were executed at Arad on 6th October 1849: Count Batthyány Lajos, Hungary’s first prime-minister was shot at Pest, and thousands were sentenced to death or prison.
The Habsburgs built the Citadel fortress on Gellért Hill at that time with cannons directed at the town below.
The age of terror stifled Hungary in the coming years.
