Five dead' after train derails near French-German border
Five people have died after a train came off its tracks near the French-German border town of Eckwersheim, according to local media.

A picture posted to Twitter appeared to show the TGV partly submerged in water, while a video posted to the social network appeared to show parts of the train in flames.

ITV News was unable to independently verify the claims.

According to local publisher Dernieres Nouvelles D'Alsace, the TGV was a test train, meaning it may not have been carrying passengers.

The train operator has yet to make a statement following the reports.

French broadcaster BFMTV said that in addition to a Syrian passport found at the scene of a deadly stadium attack in the north of the city, an Egyptian passport was found close to the body of one of the assailants.

A Greek minister has said that the Syrian passport belonged to someone who had got into the EU via Greece in early October.

Oh, what a surprise! Whoever could have seen that coming?

Athens (AFP) - Two men who French police are seeking to trace in connection with the Paris attacks registered as refugees with Greek authorities earlier this year, the Greek police confirmed on Saturday.

French authorities had asked their Greek counterparts to check a passport and fingerprints of one man and the fingerprints of another who were thought to have registered in Greece, which is the main entry point into Europe for Syrian refugees.

At least one Syrian passport was found near the body of one of the seven assailants who died in Friday night's violence.

"There is reason to believe that this is possibly linked" to the attacks, Seehofer said.

Seehofer explicitly linked the arrest to the refugee crisis, saying it "shows how important it is for us to have some clarity on who is in our country and who is travelling through our country".

Bavaria's state premier Horst Seehofer told a party conference there was "reason to believe" that a 51-year-old man arrested last week with several weapons in southern Germany was linked to attackers who killed more than 128 people in Paris.

"There is reason to believe that this is possibly linked" to the attacks, Seehofer said.

Seehofer explicitly linked the arrest to the refugee crisis, saying it "shows how important it is for us to have some clarity on who is in our country and who is travelling through our country".

He reiterated his call for reinforced controls at Europe's external borders as well as at each European country's national border.

Police told broadcaster Bayerische Rundfunk (BR) that the man had a "professionally built hiding-place" in his car for the weapons.
The arsenal included eight Kalashnikov assault rifles with ammunition, several handguns, two grenades and 200 grammes of explosives.
Documents found on the man strongly suggested that he was on his way to Paris, although the police spokesman said that the idea he was linked to Friday night's attackers remained speculative.
"Weapon smuggling is a booming business," the spokesman said.
"If someone is transporting several Kalashnikovs, hand grenades and explosives, that could be someone from a serious criminal background," Bavarian interior minister Joachim Herrmann told BR.
"But there is a strong suspicion that this is about terrorist purposes... based on the man's mobile phone and his GPS system, there are clear indications that he wanted to travel to France," Herrmann said.
Focus Online reported that the man was from Montenegro and that he has refused to speak in prison and not hired a lawyer to defend his case.....etc.
