Re: EU referendum set for June 23rd
http://news.sky.com/story/1699062/celebrities-come-out-in-force-for-remain-vote
Hundreds of celebrities have become the latest group to put their names to a letter urging voters to back remaining in the EU.
Film directors, actors, comedians and artists - and even the Poet Laureate - are named in a letter to The Guardian backing the Remain campaign.
The movie directors named include Danny Boyle, Mike Leigh and Richard Curtis, along with writers including spy author John le Carre.
Film actors include Benedict Cumberbatch, Bill Nighy, Dame Kristin Scott Thomas, Helena Bonham Carter, Jude Law, Juliet Stevenson and Keira Knightley.
Three knights of the screen - Sir Derek Jacobi, Sir John Hurt and Sir Patrick Stewart - are named, along with comedians Eddie Izzard, Jo Brand and Steve Coogan, and the Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy.
Nothing like being told what to do by a bunch of lefty luvvies to make you do the exact opposite - and anything Cumberbatch is for, I am against by default.
Labour peer and Remain campaigner Baroness Jowell told Sky News: "The point is, how do we create a creative sector in the 21st century that can compete with the rest of the world?
Dunno - maybe the same way you did for the centuries before the rise of the Eurocrats a couple of decades ago?

Oh dear, what a shame.
What, so there aren't actually going to be plagues of boils and locusts if we vote to Brexit?

Re: EU referendum set for June 23rd
I have been talking to my neighbour this evening while we got quietly drunk together. He lives in England half of the time, so he isn't actually committed to France or UK. And he has no idea of how he will vote.
But that is the problem. The UK has never been fully committed, so can't ever really understand.
There is nothing wrong with lack of commitment. It is only the confusion that most Brits find themselves in the state of at the moment, because they never really had half a chance. Half in and half out.
Tis easy for me. I have no doubt of wherein lies my loyalty. But mine is to France. I seriously don't care of what UK will decide to do. And I don't give much of a damn about Europe either.
But if I was going to take up my apparent right to vote, which I won't, then I would vote Out.
Britain will be better off without Europe, and Europe will be better off without they whinging Poms.

IMO, the problem is the EU itself, not Europe or Europeans from this side of the Channel, Sabot. I was in favour of joining the Common Market, when it was simply a trading block, but I didn't sign up for some overbearing superstate run by Berlin.

UK: #EUReferendum (2015 GE vote), ORB poll:
Support for Remain:
Green: 100%
SNP: 100%
LD: 74%
Lab: 72%
Con: 53%
PC: 48%
UKIP: 17%
#EURef
I think it's a fair bet that two of those parties are in for a shock, when they find out that the Party whip doesn't apply in voting booths.

That is an excellent piece on the totally UN-democratic nature of the present day EU.
I didn't vote for Merkel, Juncker and co - so why the HELL should they be dictating to me, and millions of others?
Jean-Claude Juncker, president of the European Commission, has now said that the EU will isolate and use sanctions against any far-right or populist governments that are swept to power or presidential office on the wave of popular anger against migration.
If he sobers up for long enough.......

Re: EU referendum set for June 23rd
I will be astounded if the EU exists ten years from now, Lily, Brexit or not. Unelected functionaries telling elected PMs and heads of state what to do in their own countries?
Marcher Lord @MarcherLord1 May 21
I can't believe we were stupid enough to vote this guy into power. Ohh, hang on...

Re: EU referendum set for June 23rd
I hope it all goes pear shaped. And I hope they have a terrible time sorting it out.
These people have nearly destroyed my home land. To such an extent that I no longer wish to live there.

I predict it will be a narrow win for Remain. The establishment will be saved from us plebs by the now-traditional Postal Vote Stunt.

And I will stay here, where I so much prefer to be these days. It's been a long time. And so much better.
My home land is lost to me now. But don't ever imagine that I didn't mind the passing.

Farage event in Northampton has been cancelled as anti-Farage protesters are blocking the entrance to the market where he was due to speak
Moonbats hate free speech - unless it's them mouthing off.

Re: EU referendum set for June 23rd
I think my neighbour is going to vote for Stay In. But only because he spends half his time in UK, and is worried about the cost of Health Insurance if he gets ill in France.
At the moment it costs him nothing, although he admits that the Health Care here is light years better.

EU referendum poll:
Remain: 41% (-)
Leave: 41% (-)
(via YouGov / 30 - 31 May)
So, whatever happens, half the country is going to be unhappy with the result. I am going to ROFLMAO if the status quo is preserved by 'postal votes'.

Bonny! You are not thinking they could ever consider rigging votes?

Perish the thought, Lily!
It's actually quite hard to rig elections in Europe, as generally, real bits of paper are marked with real pencils, and counted by real people.
There is, however, one thing that is open to abuse.....
