BREAKING: EU to hold talks with Turkey over Brussels membership NEXT WEEK
BRUSSELS bigwigs will open membership talks with Turkey NEXT WEEK, despite David Cameron promising voters a completion of a deal would be DECADES away in a bid to urge Britons to back a Remain vote.
Oops, who released that info 48 hours too soon? Dave will be ever so angry.....

Re: EU referendum set for June 23rd
The acual reason they failed to make an atom bomb had nothing to do with Einstein or the Jews, it was because the Norwegian reistance managed to sink the ferry carrying the 'heavy water' - very necessary to make the bomb - in a lake near. Telemark during WW2. LLone of the reasons the Nazis thankfully didn't manage to make an atom bomb

Lots of things played a part in it, but their hatred of 'Jew science' didn't help....Thankfully....
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutsche_Physik
Deutsche Physik (literally: "German Physics") or Aryan Physics (German: Arische Physik) was a nationalist movement in the German physics community in the early 1930s opposed to the work of Albert Einstein and other modern theoretically based physics, labeled "Jewish Physics" (German: Jüdische Physik). The term was taken from the title of a 4-volume physics textbook by Philipp Lenard in the 1930s.
Not, perhaps, the best choice of 'expert' to deride when there are so many others to choose from, but 'experts' are wrong just as often as they are right.
Who can forget all those 'experts' claiming that the UK was doomed, doomed, I say if we didn't join the euro? Or 'experts' announcing that there would never be any need, or demand, for much more than one huge super-computer in the world? Etc, etc, ad nauseum.....
I am fed up of the whole slanging match, and this morning's contributions from Remain in Scotland haven't helped one bit. However did I manage to fly out of Edinburgh to European destinations before the EU was invented?
Dave being caught so blatantly lying about Turkey is just the icing on the cake.
And no, it won't stop on Friday, because the nation is now split down the middle, and a yawning class gulf has been exposed.

Re: EU referendum set for June 23rd
In case anyone doesn't believe Ms Sturgeon said that on live TV:
http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/14573092.Nicola_Sturgeon__Brexit_risks_Scotland_s_reputation_on_the_world_stage/
"Let's get out to protect our freedom of movement. I'm here at Edinburgh Airport surrounded by people who are getting on planes to go to other European countries, that's a really important right we've got. And let's get out and protect our place in the world.
However did we all manage to get on planes to go to other European countries before the EU was invented?

Re: EU referendum set for June 23rd
As you may have noticed, I have rarely commented on the EU referendum; I made my choice some time ago, and my voting paper has been in the hands of one of the London constituencies. My elder son and my daughter are not voting as both feel they really are not influenced by anything that happens in the EU or the UK. My younger son has recently received his dual nationality papers and, like me, has cast his vote. I repect everyones' choice. LL

Re: EU referendum set for June 23rd
That's fair enough, LL, we all have reasons for our choices. A friend of mine detests the EU and everything it stands for, but is voting Remain because he's worried about the price of his shares.....
Each to their own.
This has, IMO, been the most abysmal, awful campaign, and Remain will have no-one but themselves to blame if they lose.
Who on EARTH thought it was a good idea to stick Geldof and his chums on a party boat, and make V-signs, etc., at hard-working fishermen? If you knew nothing at all about it, the optics alone would shock you so much you'd vote Leave.
Now everyone's calling each other nazis, Sturgeon's lost the plot, a woman's death is being exploited for political ends, Boris is obsessed with bananas, and Dave has been caught blatantly lying about Turkey, among other things.
It's ghastly, all of it. And it's only going to get worse.
Each to their own.

You are quite right Bonny. Its like watching a can of livebait.
The only one who comes out with a modicom of credit is Ruth Davidson.
This is an issue which will affect life in the UK and Europe for decades - long after this shower are dead an buried. And therefore any decision should be made on fundamentals, and facts. Not on rhetoric, or personality, or on which particular celebrity one finds least repellent.

Re: EU referendum set for June 23rd
Speaking of worse - Juncker's turned up:
British voters were today warned there is no chance of a second renegotiation with the EU if they back Brexit tomorrow.
Jean-Claude Juncker, the EU Commission President, said 'out is out' and ruled out re-opening talks in a bid to reverse a vote to quit the EU.
In remarks sure to be seized upon by the Vote Leave campaign, Mr Juncker said David Cameron got the 'maximum' reform possible in his renegotiation that was concluded in February.
The deal has been derided as empty and useless by Brexit campaigners and the Prime Minister has been forced to admit more reform is still needed.
Mr Juncker said today: 'The British policy makers and British voters have to know that there will not be any kind of renegotiation.
'Out is out.'
He added: 'We have concluded a deal with the prime minister. He got the maximum he could receive and we gave the maximum we could give.
'So there will be no renegotiation, not on the agreement we found in February, nor as far as any kind of treaty negotiations are concerned.'

Now, that makes no odds to me, as I didn't think for one minute that the EU would institute reforms, especially if those reforms involved removing their snouts from the trough.
But Dave has been banging on about 'reforming the EU from within', blah blah, and some people may have believed him. I wonder, does Juncker actually want the UK to leave?

Ms Davidson is good - I've never caught her lying, which always helps a lot. BUT - I don't see her as a future UK Tory leader. Not because of any shortcomings she may have, but because I simply do not see the Tory shires accepting a working class, lesbian, Scotswoman as their leader.
Can you actually imagine the horror of Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells?
She comes from a fairly humble background, worked for a living at real jobs before entering politics, is an enthusiastic kick-boxer, and just got engaged to her partner, Jen - Jen appeared with her on a recent party political broadcast.
She's just about single-handedly revived the Tory party in Scotland - but is England ready for her? I am not sure....
I am not even sure if she'd want the job.

http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/14573764.TNS_poll_puts_Leave_campaign_ahead/
Leave has the edge in another EU opinion poll.
The TNS survey found Leave on 43 per cent, Remain on 41 per cent and Undecideds/Would not vote on 16 per cent.
Luke Taylor, head of social and political attitudes at TNS UK said: “With many members of the public still undecided or not planning to vote there is uncertainty around the outcome of the referendum.
“Our latest poll suggests that Leave is in a stronger position than Remain, but it should be noted that in the Scottish Independence Referendum and the 1995 Quebec Independence Referendum there was a late swing to the status quo and it is possible that the same will happen here.”
But for anyone that doesn't think history began with the invention of the cellphone, that doesn't apply. The EU has existed for the blink of an eye; the actual status quo is NOT being a member......

New TNS poll has 2pt lead for Leave. But there's a *very* dramatic footnote: Leave has 7pt lead among likely voters.
Britain Elects @britainelects 4h4 hours ago
Westminster voting intention:
CON: 34% (-1)
LAB: 30% (-2)
UKIP: 19% (-)
LDEM: 6% (+2)
GRN: 4% (-)
(via Opinium / 20 - 22 Jun)
Watch UKIP soar if Remain win.

Re: EU referendum set for June 23rd
It closes at 10 pm UK time, Lily, but as far as I can make out, it will be well into the wee small hours before we get any idea of the result. IMO, it's going to be an odd one, as it seems there are huge regional variations - London will probably tend to Remain, but the big Northern cities to Leave.
As for Scotland - I have NO idea. If that figure of 38% of SNP voters voting Leave is anything like accurate, then a good few smug people are in for nasty shocks. Unlike the other parties, the SNP didn't allow members to express their own views - it had to be 100% Remain or else, simply because it would cause constitutional problems and yet more instability.
They've been called out for it by the older, wiser guard, which makes it impossible to predict, as no-one is allowed to speak out in public - calls are being made for the old guard to be thrown out for dissent. People may well be keeping silent, and making their real views known in the polling booth. That happened at both the 2015 general election, and the recent Holyrood election.
I genuinely don't know how it's going to go, there are too many oddities about it all. But if Leave win, then Dave had better call the furniture vans into No 10. If it's anything other than a big Remain win, his days are numbered anyway, for dividing the country like this.
Oh, no exit polls, LL? I thought there would be, for something so important.

Re: EU referendum set for June 23rd
http://news.sky.com/story/1715911/eu-referendum-sky-news-on-the-night-guide
For a start, there is no official broadcasters exit poll – not because we couldn't afford it but because there was no way it could have been a fraction as accurate as the general election one (some hedge funds with more money than sense have reportedly commissioned their own exit polls, and they're welcome to them).
No, the hedge funds don't have 'more money than sense' - stock markets (and George Soros) will be waiting for the slightest hint of the outcome. And there are stock markets all over the world, not just in London....
First off, obvious as this may sound, there's only one result that counts on the night – the number of people who vote Remain and Leave – but there will be 382 declarations from local authorities and voting areas around the country over the course of Thursday night and Friday morning.
As pro-Remain and pro-Leave area results plop in, the running tally of votes is likely to yo-yo around, making it difficult to keep track.
Given the way the declarations are timetabled, it's quite plausible that the running tally starts off looking like a strong Leave vote for a couple of hours, before swinging to a Remain vote in the following hours, before swinging back to a Leave lead in the final hour or two.
So, they have no idea what is going to happen, either.
