I'm not surprised, the dead silence from Morais was telling its own story. It was pretty clear Gonc was in big, big trouble, or she would have been spinning like a top if she could have found even the slightest shred of anything to spin.

There has been a Court Meeting fairly recently, during which the viability of this Case must have been discussed, since no Court wishes to waste it's time on a dead duck. This is the point at which Cabrita must have seen the light. And the point at which Cabrita told Amaral to get another Lawyer.

If it can be proved he breached the privacy laws, I believe the AG could request charges be brought. However, it has to be proved it was Amaral who did the leaking. In which case, it would take someone within the force to snich on him.

Isn't going to help Bennett much on his date with the High Court, is it? Stella had some insane idea that Gonc was going to win, in the nick of time to save her beloved Tone

I think we can take that as given, Tony. Amaral has Libelled The McCanns. This is a fact since he cannot prove what he has said. You don't have to be a genius to work that one out. We have all seen him on television stating categorically that Madeleine died in that appartment, and that The McCanns hid her body. Amaral cannot prove this. End of.

I do believe that if Amaral had left it to his book, then The McCanns would not have pursued him. But the cocky barstard had to put the boot in. No one gainsaid him, and so he thought that he could say whatever he liked.
It is the same old story. If you don't fight back then you must be guilty. Heaven forbid that you just don't want to deal with this crap when you have better things to do.

In the end these people drive you to the point where you have no choice but to fight them. And oh so well do I know this.

Oh, I think Cabrita always knew that Gonc was on a sticky wicket. But The Law is The Law, until some idiot is proven to be corrupt. And we still don't actually know if it was Gonc who leaked that stuff. We only know that it was someone in The PJ who had access to things that Amaral was coordinating, and by association must have been pertinent to him.
I don't think that The Libel Trial has much to do with that. It is to do with the fact that no one knows what happened, and therefor a PJ Officer has no right to state that he does know.

Leveson is only important in so far as the fact that The PJ are a bunch of self serving arseholes who couldn't solve a case if it smacked them in the gob, and consequently leaked a pile of rubbish that wasn't even true, in some vain attempt to prove that they knew what they were doing. At which point our wonderful Press leapt upon this shit like a bunch of ravening wolves without any restraint whatsoever.
Although I have to say, "Give me a Wolf Pack any day."

Cabrita did have to represent Goncalo Amaral, simply because he was Amaral's Lawyer. Common sense now tells me that Cabrita advised Amaral to settle for about half of what was being asked for. About 500,000 Euros, which would have left Amaral with something of his ill gotten gains, if not just his family home and the rotten Jaguar. And even his rotten wife.

This is what Amaral will do. Eventually. And The McCanns will settle for that because they are not vindictive people.
