Re: More propaganda from the Generalissima (merged)
She's raving again....this time, she's in a lather about the recent interview the McCanns gave:
Joana Morais @xklamation Reply Retweet Favorite · Open
#McCann web of deceit: Portugal “doesn't have a Royal Navy”, nor “Helicopters” and is “Mediterranean” http://goo.gl/wyK7d
1. Portugal doesn't have a Royal Navy because it is a REPUBLIC.
2. It is scarcely Gerry McCann's fault if a Portuguese official is disparaging about his/her nations' armed forces budget. I dare say that if you asked any member of OUR Royal Navy for a helicopter right now, you would get the same reply for the same reason.
3. As for getting in a lather about this:
Spanish border is only about 90 minutes away and obviously you are on the Mediterranean, - he didn't say Portugal was on the Med, it's a reference to the border and the speed with which the Med can be reached.
Stupid creature.
Has she worked out yet that there are actually no fewer than FOUR nations (not counting Northern Ireland and assorted self-governing islands) in the British Isles, or does she still think that everything north of France and the Channel is called 'England'?

Re: More propaganda from the Generalissima (merged)
A map for Morais as she doesn't seem to know how close the Spain/Portugal border is to the Med:
Tango Debs could have walked it in an afternoon
ETA quote from Gerry McCann:
Madeleine could have been moved very easily and the Spanish border is only about 90 minutes away and obviously you are on the Mediterranean, and one of the aspects of why we are campaigning internationally is because she could have been taken anywhere
I think the map ^^^^^^^^ proves his point perfectly. The Generalissima really does need to calm down. Or maybe she's had bad news of a legal nature

Re: More propaganda from the Generalissima (merged)
Just for Morais, to let her see that the UK have heat seeking helicopters:
http://www.chad.co.uk/news/local/man_s_pinxton_raid_bid_foiled_by_police_helicopter_1_4197141
Published on Friday 3 February 2012 12:15
A POLICE helicopter with heat-seeking equipment pinpointed an Ashfield man raiding a works compound.
Police had been tipped off that two men were trying to break into a storage yard on Erewash Road, Pinxton, on 8th January .
Chesterfield magistrates were told on Monday it was dark and difficult for any intruders to be seen by officers on the ground.
But a force helicopter hovering above detected a heat source and Stephen Swain was found hiding behind a wooden pallet.
Here's one from 2007:
http://hightimes.com/news/ht_admin/1598
Police Helicopter Seeks Out Cannabis Factories
See? There actually isn't anything odd about the request. Whether or not it would have helped is another matter, but it is quite normal for UK police helicopters to be fitted with heat sensors.
Guess Morais didn't know that.

I know, LL, she's gone off on one of her rants without actually looking at the context of what was being said.
And without checking anything.
How on earth could Portugal have a Royal Navy? I am not sure how its military Navy distinguishes itself from its merchant Navy; but republics can't have Royal Navies.
Portugal has a long and proud maritime tradition:
but how she can rant because someone made an off the cuff remark about restraints on their navy is beyond me. Remember, it wasn't Gerry McCann who said that.
As for her not knowing it is routine for the UK police to have helicopters with heat sensors....

Re: More propaganda from the Generalissima (merged)
Seems to be just called the Portuguese Navy, from this piece about their new submarine:
http://expresso.sapo.pt/submarino-tridente-aceite-em-definitivo-por-portugal=f672260
Trident Submarine ultimately accepted by Portugal
The Trident submarine fulfill two missions at sea, having surpassed the expectations of the Portuguese Navy .
The Trident has participated in two NATO exercises in the Mediterranean Sea
The performance of the submarine Trident "exceeded" the expectations of the Portuguese Navy and will definitely be accepted by the Portuguese, after a year he spent a third of the time at sea, serving two missions and assisting in the fight against drug trafficking.
"In this first year of the Trident submarine, there was a high activity that allowed the proper performance of a demanding planning aimed at qualitative receção platform and systems, given the current warranty period, and the depth of knowledge in the operation of this important naval unit "says the Navy, in a response sent to the agency Lusa.
That branch of the Armed Forces, he received in August last year the first two submarines purchased from Germany - officially presented on September 8 - states that "in all missions were confirmed, and were even exceeded, the expectations regarding the capabilities this excellent platform, and it was completed 125 days at sea. "
Specialization course completed
At this time, says the Navy, the Trident is in the shipyards of Kiel "to make the docking of guarantee", already being done "the first course of specialization in submarines, with specialized military only for this class of ships."
Over the last year, participated in two NATO exercises in the Mediterranean Sea and collected "different operational information, especially in the area of combating drug trafficking," an "assignment of increased importance in the activities of submarines."
In these missions, there were still no evidence of sea to weapons systems, with evidence of launching torpedoes.
The "Harpoon", the second submarine came to Portugal this year, will only see your completed warranty period in 2012.
See? Not quite as simple as ranting because you have deliberately taken spoken words out of context, is it?

Re: More propaganda from the Generalissima (merged)
More deliberate ignorance:
I am sure that is a slip of tongue on Gerry's part. I don't believe PJ told him they had no"navy', let alone "royal navy'? He's making that up to embellish his story.
So, if I said to Tony that the UK didn't have Navy SEALS, and he told someone else that I had made that comment, that would mean that I had told him we didn't have an SBS?
Are they really too dim to see it - don't answer.

The Royal Norwegian Navy (often abbreviated as RNoN) is the branch of the Norwegian Defence Force responsible for naval operations. As of 2008, the RNoN consists of approximately 3,700 personnel (9,450 if mobilized, and 32,000 if fully mobilized) and 70 vessels, including 5 heavy frigates, 6 submarines, 14 patrol boats, 4 minesweepers, 4 minehunters, 1 mine detection vessel, 4 support vessels and 2 training vessels. The navy also includes the Coast Guard.
In Norwegian, the Royal Norwegian Navy vessels are given the ship prefix "KNM", short for Kongelig Norske Marine (Royal Norwegian Navy). In English, they are given the prefix "HNoMS", short for "His/Her Norwegian Majesty's Ship". Coast Guard vessels are given the prefix "KV" for KystVakt (Coast Guard) in Norwegian and "NoCGV" for Norwegian Coast Guard Vessel in English.
The Royal Danish Navy (RDN) (officially Kongelige Danske Marine in Danish but generally known as Søværnet or 'Sea Defence') is the sea-based branch of the Danish Defence force. The RDN is mainly responsible for maritime defence and maintaining the sovereignty of Danish, Greenlandic and Faroese territorial waters. Other tasks include surveillance, search and rescue, icebreaking, oil spill recovery and prevention as well as contributions to international tasks and forces.
The Royal Swedish Navy (Swedish: Marinen) is the naval branch of the Swedish Armed Forces.[1] It is composed of surface and submarine naval units – the Fleet (Flottan) – as well as marine units, the so-called Amphibious Corps (Amfibiekåren).
In Swedish, vessels of the Swedish Navy are given the prefix "HMS," short for Hans/Hennes Majestäts Skepp (His/Her Majesty's Ship). In English, this is often changed to "HSwMS" ("His Swedish Majesty's Ship") to differentiate Swedish vessels from those of the British Royal Navy.

You certainly can't have a Royal Navy of any kind without a monarch as head of state....how typical of Morais, though, to take a verbal statement out of context and try to turn it into something it simply isn't.

Re: More propaganda from the Generalissima (merged)
So we can include these types of countries then? That's a relief......
Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammad al-Qassimi (c. 1918-1920[a] – 27 October 2010) was the Emir of Ras al-Khaimah, one of the United Arab Emirates, from 1948 to 2010.
He became the Ruler of Ras al-Khaimah on 17 July 1948,[1] when he overthrew his uncle and father-in-law Sheikh Sultan Bin Salim al-Qassimi in a bloodless coup d'etat. Saqr exiled Sultan to Sharjah. Under his rule, Ras al-Khaimah joined the United Arab Emirates in 1972. At the time of his death in 2010, he was the world's oldest reigning monarch at age ~90.
H.M. the Queen, our Monarch, is the one that most of the world thinks about when anyone mentions 'the Queen'. It could in reality be the Queen of Spain for instance.
In countries overseas, someone known as a Sultan, or an Emir for example is the Monarch, and they would not have it any other way.
