Re: Gardening Thread.
Rain. rain, and yet more rain.
The Sunflowers turned into a bit of a disappointment with not a single full blown seed to be seen, although I did catch a few birds eating something. The rest of them have all gone moldy. I don't think I will be doing this again as I will need a skip to get rid of the dead stalks, and they were never very interesting anyway.
But very soon I shall be planting Broad Beans. I have chucked a few chicken shit pellets in the pots which have all been well and truly watered in. And I do have a new species of Broad Bean for next year, so I will try half and half.
The Chrysanthemums have been lovely yet again, and they do go on for so long. Some in the house in vases, and some left in the garden. They live for weeks and weeks. And still my most favourite flowers.
Winter. Very boring. But at least I don't have to work. But as I know from past experience, the bloody grass will be growing again before I get half a chance to get used to doing nothing. Three short months and it will be Spring again.

Re: Gardening Thread.
I ended up with one spindly sunflower, due there being so little sun. Ah well, maybe next year....

You think it was the weather? Give me hope. I don't normally give up easily.

It was the weather all right, Sabot, I usually get pretty decent sunflowers. But they simply did not get enough sun this year to thrive.

Re: Gardening Thread.
Trust me to pick the worst Summer ever. But the Runner Beans did well. Not one single Tomato however.
I do sometimes wonder why I bother. But it does briefly take my mind off the horrible things that go on.
For the moment I am in to growing more Hydrangeas. I don't particularly like them but they are very easy to grow. And they go on and on looking pretty.

Re: Gardening Thread.
I am wondering if perhaps Scotland shouldn't go into the rice-growing business...guess what it's been doing again?
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/residents-evacuated-floods-hit-scotland-174005296.html
More than 100 residents have been evacuated from their homes after Scottish villages were affected by flooding after heavy rain.
Residents in Comrie, Perthshire, were forced to leave when the Water of Ruchill burst its banks just before 8am.
Tayside Fire and Rescue Service said about 70 firefighters and 10 appliances were at the scene, including water rescue teams.
The flooding has extended into large parts of Dalginross, Camp Road, Bank Road, Tay Avenue, Glebe Road and Duke Road, the fire service said.
Roads around Dalginross have been closed by police and an emergency rest centre has been set up by Perth and Kinross Council at Strathearn leisure centre in nearby Crieff.
Properties have also been flooded in Dunblane, Aberfoyle and Callander, a spokesman for Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service said, leading to the main street in Aberfoyle being closed in both directions.
A Red Cross spokesman said the volunteers, who are based in Dundee, have helped more than 20 people who were evacuated from their properties, including a number of elderly people from two care homes.

Re: Gardening Thread.
Good news for Foresthill Watersports Centre?
It has briefly stopped raining here, but the temperature has shot up so all of my stone floors are leaking wet, mainly due to France not knowing a lot about Damp Courses and having a high humidity level. I might need to be rescued just from that.

Re: Gardening Thread.
Torrential rain and howling gales here, and likely to continue for some days. But I have found a small upcrop of White Chanterelle Mushrooms. These are quite rare and also a fair size, which again is rare.
Bloody Wisteria leaves all over the place and blowing in the house, but at least I will be able to cut those back soon. It is an impossible task with the leaves still on the plants.
Everything is sodden.

Re: Gardening Thread.
It's just been drizzling here, Sabot. I feel heart-sorry for all those people who haven't even dried out from the last downpours and floods, the ground is sodden.

Today I saw the biggest and brightest complete double Rainbow I have ever seen in my whole life. It was utterly stunning.
I thought you all would like to know.

Re: Gardening Thread.
The Sky was dark black in some places, but with brilliant Sunshine in others. A bit scary actually. Almost doom. I have just never seen such a brilliant Rainbow. The end of it actually hit a field just ahead of me, and then it shifted. Fortunately there were no cars behind me, or coming at me, otherwise I might have had an accident because I wasn't watching where I was going.
I shall remember that one. God is a miracle of which we need to be reminded of from time to time. Presuming that one believes in a God.

Re: Gardening Thread.
Anyway, I had been at The Travelling Lorry, bought some more spectacles, and a couple of Baches. These are big plastic sheets to cover Logs, or anything else that you don't want to become saturated. They cost me a few bob, but like Wine, I don't buy crap anymore. Some things you can get away with on the cheap, and some things you can't. I usually know the difference
The glasses I buy are cheap crap, but then I only need a magnifying glass on the end of my nose. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my long distance sight, and my short sight has not deteriorated at all in fifteen years.
The Lorry man did only put up one Bache when there were two listed on the ultimate Bill, but I put that down to a mistake on his part. It takes these people about two seconds flat to suss that I am English because my French Accent is appalling, but I doubt that they would deliberately cheat me.
And, guess what, he was selling these Alcohol Balloons that are now Law in France. You have to have one in your car. So I bought two. Not that I ever drive around drunk these days, but chance might be a fine thing, if ever. And I do have a tendency to buy two of everything. Probably due to past deprivation. And there have been times in the past when God alone knows how I got home. Not that I would ever use one of these things because I always know when I have had too much. I don't need a balloon to tell me so.
Anyway, it was a good day with that Rainbow.

Nothing wrong with Benidorm. The funniest thing I have ever watched. And some really good actors. They have to be good to portray such rubbish and still make me laugh.

Re: Gardening Thread.
It is far and away the funniest thing on British TV, Lily - and most definitely not Politically Correct. Joan Collins has expressed a desire to make an appearance in it, apparently, but I don't know, she might be a bit too low-key and subtle?

It's on this link, Lily. Go to TV Shows, clock on "More" and scroll down. They are in alphabetical order. Click on Benidorm and all of the Seasons will come up.
Loads more as well, both British and American.

Re: Gardening Thread.
They also do a daily update of Episodes that were shown the night before. This is listed under Last 24 Hours. Scroll down a bit after clicking on "More."
Each Episode contains several Links, and some are better than others. If the link has a bit of bother buffering just click on Pause for a minute or two, and then restart.
Occasionally they Time Out and you have to start again, but some of them you can advance and some of them you can't. Sockshare and Putlocker are good for this.
Downton Abbey is on there if you are interested. Loads of other, mainly American Popular.
Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes, which I have watched twice now because it is so good, I think.
Also lots of Films.
It took me sometime to sort it all out, so I hope this helps.
And when Forums are a bit slow, when I hear the Email Ping I pause the video and open Mail, and then go back to the Video.
And if this isn't a reason to get a life, then I don't know what is.

It's a life saver to me in Winter, Lily. I have just ploughed through all seven seasons of of Dexter, and finally caught up to the present, so I shall have to go trawling for some new ones shortly.
Pass the Link on to your friends, Folks, especially those abroad. We don't all have Sky.
