Portillo's manners are impeccable, LL, he always does his research before he goes to a new town - or railway line -, he's interesting, and interested in what he's talking about to viewers.

Unlike the beardy old scruff.

Jeremy Corbyn and his team threaten Richard Branson with nationalisation and further regulation in wake of 'traingate' CCTV
Sir Richard Branson has been labelled a "tax exile" who is "literally laughing all the way to the bank" at the British public's expense by Jeremy Corbyn's campaign manager, while the Labour leader threatened the billionaire with the renationalisation of the railways.

Now, should he by some ill chance get into power, is Jezza planning to actually compensate Sir Richard for his fine choo choos? Might be a bit of a problem finding the cash for that....

Or is he simply planning to seize them, in the finest Marxist style? Because if he tried that, the capital flight from the UK would make Venezuela look like Paradise.....

Jeremy Corbyn will regret picking a fight with Sir Richard Branson

Corbyn's Virgin train stunt shows he's stuck in the 1970s... and is really rather dim, writes DOMINIC SANDBROOK
By Dominic Sandbrook for the Daily Mail
23:36 GMT, 24 August 2016
Even by his own standards, Jeremy Corbyn’s latest antics stretch credulity. For the past few days, the leader of Her Majesty’s Opposition has been engaged in a row with Virgin Trains that would surely be rejected as too ludicrous even for satire.

You might have thought someone on his Press team, one lonely, tremulous voice, would have pointed out that the whole thing was a bad idea. You might have thought someone would have realised the 11am from London King’s Cross to Newcastle carries no commuters, so is never overcrowded. Or that someone would have noticed the empty seats, or would have known that Virgin Trains would be bound to hit back.
Unfortunately for Mr Corbyn, his aides, like their master, are so drunk on their own moral self-righteousness that they parted ways with common sense a long time ago. They were so convinced their hero was scoring a tremendous point against the wicked capitalist train company that it never occurred to them to check his facts first.

That's absolutely spot-on, IMO. I won't be at all surprised if Mrs May conspires with the 'moderate' Labour MPs and calls a snap General Election.

It would guarantee a spell of peace, quiet and relative stability for at least five years.

Aides unable to reach Jeremy Corbyn during 'traingate' row because he 'was making jam'
25 August 2016 • 10:41am
Jeremy Corbyn was unreachable on Tuesday afternoon during the 'traingate' row because he was making jam, according to reports.

Sources have claimed his team struggled to get hold of the Labour leader following accusations he had a seat on a train journey during which he sat on the ground for a video stunt attacking the quality of Britain’s rail services.

One Labour source told the Guardian it was impossible to reach him for some time on Tuesday because he was "making jam."

Labour leader’s campaign team say public argument with Sir Richard Branson has ‘done us a favour’, by highlighting Corbyn’s desire to re-nationalise railways.
Jeremy Corbyn’s campaign team believe his public spat with Virgin trains boss Sir Richard Branson has boosted his chances in the Labour leadership race.

Sam Tarry, the Labour leader’s campaign director, told the Guardian that “from the point of view of the people we want to mobilise, Richard Branson’s done us a favour”.

So, the wannabee PM not only blatantly lies, can't book train tickets and doesn't know that trains have CCTV nowadays?

He can't even make jam and talk on the phone at the same time? It has to be asked - Is Corbyn the full shilling?

I think "making jam' may have replaced 'discussing Ugandan relations' as a euphemism.

Labour party suspends pro-Corbyn union chief
Ronnie Draper of the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union said action was taken over something he wrote on social media.
The Labour party has suspended a trade union leader who strongly supports Jeremy Corbyn, leaving him “disgusted and in shock”.
Ronnie Draper, the general secretary of the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU), which has nearly 20,000 members, told the Press Association he had been sent a letter announcing he was suspended pending a hearing.

Traingate latest: Jeremy Corbyn gets seat on Glasgow service
Two days after the eruption of the row between the Labour leader and Virgin, Corbyn was back on the train. Thankfully, this time he got a seat.

Whatever Jeremy Corbyn’s destiny as Labour leader, one element of his future now seems certain: every time he gets a seat on a train, someone will take a photograph for posterity.

Two days after the eruption of Corbyn’s unlikely if bitter row with Virgin Trains about whether there were empty seats on a London to Newcastle service, he was on another of its routes, this time heading to Glasgow.

Owen Smith accuses Jeremy Corbyn of lying over EU referendum vote
25 August 2016
Labour leader insists Brexit was not what he wanted as he and challenger trade barbs at ill-tempered hustings event in Glasgow.
Labour leadership contender Owen Smith has accused Jeremy Corbyn, his rival, of lying about his remain vote in June’s EU referendum during a fractious hustings event in Glasgow.
In his most direct attack yet, Smith – whose team have placed debate over the EU at the heart of their campaign – said: “I’m not even sure that Jeremy did vote ‘in’ in the EU referendum.”

Training lessons from the Book of Corbyn
An aspiring prime minister should be able to reserve himself a seat on a train
Jeremy Corbyn, the Labour leader, has faced mockery after Virgin Trains released film footage which cast doubt on his claims that a train was so crowded he was forced to sit on the floor. The row has crystallised divisions between his opponents and his fanatical supporters, who follow him with messianic fervour.
And so it came to pass that Jeremy and his disciples travelled north from Westminster, out of the land of Nod to meet with the people of Gateshead.

Jeremy Corbyn admits he walked past empty train seats because he wanted to sit next to his wife
12:24, 24 Aug 2016 By Mikey Smith , Jack Blanchard
The Labour leader originally said he sat on the floor because he couldn't find any seats, and last night denied he wanted to sit with his wife.
Jeremy Corbyn has admitted he chose to sit on the floor of a train because he couldn't find two seats next to each other so he could sit with his wife.

He has previously claimed there were no unreserved seats available on the train.

His admission comes just hours after his spokesperson insisted to the Mirror that the idea he walked past empty seats because he wanted to sit with his wife was "nonsense."

Quizzed on the issue at a press conference this morning, he initially refused to answer, insisting on questions about the NHS.

But a reporter for Sky News said: "We live in a free country. It's about what I want to ask, not what you want me to ask about." More at link.

Why you shouldn’t vote for Jeremy Corbyn
What follows is an appeal to Jeremy Corbyn supporters to think again. It’s from Chris, a Labour party member, who does not want to give his full name for fear of abuse. He has compiled a vast, but by no means exhaustive list of the moral and political failings of the Labour leader. Full post at link.

That's a good piece in the Spectator, LL - apart from anything else, it isn't healthy to have a non-functioning Opposition.

It is, IMO, one of the reasons Scottish affairs have descended into such chaos - nothing was being scrutinised or challenged properly, though Ruth Davidson and Willie Rennie are starting to pull things round. Labour is in too much turmoil to be of the slightest use.

At one level, Traingate is extremely funny, and very British. But at another level, Corbyn was trying to carry out a truly appalling stunt, which was a lie from start to finish.

Ironically, it was his ignorance of the modern world, and things like CCTV, that have been his undoing, IMO.

http://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/704326/Jeremy-Corbyn-don-t-consider-myself-wealthy-138-000-salary-Labour-leadership-election

'I don't consider myself as wealthy' says £138k-a-year Jeremy Corbyn

JEREMY CORBYN was today branded “out of touch” after the Labour leader claimed he doesn’t think he’s “wealthy” despite being allowed to rake in £138,000-a-year from taxpayers.

The left-winger, who lives in an estimated £600,000 property in one of London’s most expensive boroughs, earns his MP salary of £74,962 and is entitled to an additional £63,098 - and the use of a taxpayer-funded car - for his role as Leader of the Opposition.

The 67-year-old also benefits from a state pension and an entitlement from his time at Haringey Council.

Earlier this year, it was revealed Mr Corbyn has made more than £3million from the state over the past three decades, including his MP wages and the generous parliamentary pension he will earn when he retires.

The average gross salary for a full-time UK employee is £27,456-a-year, according to the Office for National Statistics.

But the Labour leader, who has represented his Islington North constituency since 1983, insisted he does not believe he is “high-brow or wealthy”.
...etc.

Right.....
