http://www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/brexit-poll-brits-think-economy-will-thrive-outside-eu-20-years-from-now-a3298071.html
A clear majority of Britons think the economy will do better outside the EU in 10 or 20 years’ time, an exclusive poll reveals today.
Ipsos MORI research found that people are optimistic when they think how Britain will fare in the longer term.
Some 55 per cent think the economy will be better off in 10 or 20 years because of leaving the EU, while less than half as many, 24 per cent, think it will be worse off.
Asked how things will fare in the first five years, 38 per cent thought the economy would be better off because of Brexit, and 49 per cent worse off.
Six in 10 said Britain will be better able to make decisions in its own national interest, but 42 per cent thought the country will have less clout on the world stage.
The public were evenly split on whether national security would be better or worse.....etc.

Re: AFTER BREXIT
Boris Johnson insisted Brexit did not mean the UK "abandoning" its role in Europe, as he made his debut on the world stage as Foreign Secretary.
Speaking as he arrived for the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, Mr Johnson said it was vital the UK continued to work close closely with Europe because of the growing threat of terrorism.
:: Emergency Landing At Luton For Boris Johnson
He said: "We have to give effect to the will of the people and leave the European Union.
"But that in no sense means we are leaving Europe. We are not going to be in any way abandoning our leading role in European participation and co-operation of all kinds.
"When you look at the discussion on the table ... over the horrific events in Nice, and Turkey where we have to work very closely together, you see the importance of that."...etc.
Well, Europe, and the nations which make up the continent, isn't the same thing as the EU, which a lot of people seem to forget.

@mickmcavoy No it's not. We've said we'd be in NATO because frankly it's one less barrier to independence. That is surely obvious.
That's from one of the leading lights in the SNP, a close ally of Ms Sturgeon. It's not dissimilar to this, from Humza Yousaf:
Humza Yousaf suggested the SNP’s position to retain the Monarchy in an independent Scotland was simply an attempt to secure more support for breaking up the UK.

Appearing on the BBC’s Question Time programme, Mr Yousaf said: “Most people in the SNP – it would hardly be a surprise to you – would at some point like to see our head of state elected. But for the purpose of independence we said we would keep the Queen as head of state.”
Mr Yousaf is close to Nicola Sturgeon and is currently her Europe Minister. He is tipped for a big job when the SNP leader appoints her new Cabinet next week. He has also been spoken of as a potential successor to Ms Sturgeon.

Well the problem for Scotland is that it still needs a subsidy. Expenditure is running at around £12bn more than tax receipts each year, or around 6% of GDP.
It's a bit like one of ones children demanding independence - but will daddy still pay the rent and the clothing allowance.
So big talk of another referendum is really rather empty rhetoric for domestic consumption.

I think it's actually nearer 9% than 6%, Jean-Pierre, but I won't quibble - it's a LOT, and frankly, I have no desire to spend my old age in Greek-style poverty. In the rain.
I won't bore you with the details of the many, many reasons I took my leave of the SNP; it's best summed up as, They're dishonest through and through. And incompetent, too.
They are supposed to be running Scotland's domestic affairs, but they never do anything nowadays except campaign and shout about Tories!!!!! Referendum!!!!!!!!
That useless SNP shower down in Westminster seem to forget, they got elected on a protest vote, not out of any deep conviction. Opinion here is split 50/50 on Trident, it is NOT monolithic.
Likewise the EU - Leave didn't campaign here that I noticed, and still got 40% of the vote. Ms Sturgeon is ignoring all of those voters. Why the SNP has gone rotten, I don't know, but they have. The fleshpots of London? Dreams of EU gold? Who knows?
I almost wish May would call a snap election. Just about every one of them outside the central belt would be unseated - including Alex Salmond and the insufferable Angus Robertson.

Re: AFTER BREXIT
http://stv.tv/news/politics/1361133-snp-mp-criticised-for-fiscal-consolidation-comments/
An SNP MP has been criticised for saying an independent Scotland with a new currency would need five years of "fiscal consolidation" in order to "assuage" the markets.
George Kerevan, who represents East Lothian, said an independent Scotland would need to "cut its budget coat to fit its fiscal means", but that the results would turn Scotland into an "economic powerhouse".
Kerevan, who is also the SNP's sole representative on the House of Commons Treasury committee, made the remarks in an article for London-based business newspaper City AM.
Scottish Labour said the MP's comments were "astounding", adding: "The SNP owe Scots an explanation of where these cuts will fall."
An SNP spokesperson described the party's anti-austerity credentials as "impeccable".
Kerevan's article, published on Monday, said that an independent Scotland joining the euro was a "non-starter" and that the UK would be "even less in the mood to accommodate" sharing the pound in a currency union with an independent Scotland than it was when the proposal was made prior to the 2014 referendum.
He went on to say that launching an independent Scottish currency would be "perfectly possible" but that successfully pegging the new currency to sterling would require selling off Scotland's "legacy share of UK state assets".
Kerevan continued: "However, a separate Scottish currency pegged to sterling would necessitate fiscal consolidation to assuage the foreign exchange markets.
"It would certainly be doable, but would require independent Scotland to cut its budget coat to fit its fiscal means."....etc.
Oh dear, one of thems told the truth. How on earth did that happen?

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/nicola-sturgeon-never-claimed-to-have-veto-on-brexit-process-or-article-50-says-spokesperson-a7145251.html
Nicola Sturgeon has never claimed she had a veto over Brexit but will call for a second independence referendum if Scotland’s place in the EU is not maintained, her spokesman has said.
It comes after the First Minister said Scotland is in “a strong position” when asked on Sunday whether she had the ability to block Britain’s exit from the European Union, in the wake of comments made by Theresa May after the pair met in Edinburgh.
“We have never claimed to have had a veto – either on the overall Brexit process or on the timing of Article 50 being triggered,” a spokesperson for the First Minister told The Independent.
Oh yes she did.

Nicola Sturgeon has warned that Scottish politicians could veto the UK’s exit from the EU.
Experts have warned that the Scottish Parliament’s consent would be required before the UK could leave.
Asked if Holyrood could veto a Brexit she told the BBC: “Of course. If the Scottish Parliament is judging this on the basis of what is best for Scotland we are not going to vote for something that is not in Scotland’s interests. Of course that is going to be on the table”.
The SNP leader also warned the next Prime Minister not to block another independence referendum.
I reckon May has sat on her from a great height. Maybe told her she could waffle as much nonsense as she wants to keep the die-hards happy - but any serious nonsense, and the press would be given a few juicy stories about exactly what her useless MPs have been up to down in London.

Re: AFTER BREXIT
I am astounded she had the gall to deny it, Lily. Within hours of the result being known, she was running round Scottish TV studios announcing that 'Holyrood would block Brexit'.
Now, everyone knew that was bullshit, she simply didn't have the powers, but it was all being done to exploit an already-chaotic situation for her own ends. A lot of people started to actively dislike Ms Sturgeon then......
