Re: AFTER BREXIT
Yes, I think the good ship Brittania is setting sail the open seas again, and leaving those squabbling european types behind. As long as we don't start plundering the Spanish Main, or anything, it should be OK....

Badly-dressed dumplings like Hillary and Merkel must be spitting feathers about Mrs May being tall and slim. And doing Inspirational Speeches.

Brexit: where we are now in Britain's decision to leave EU
LONDON (AP) — British Prime Minister Theresa May has outlined a broad timetable for the country's departure from the European Union. That should bring more clarity about Britain's future, right? Not necessarily.
Here's a look at where we are with Britain's EU exit, or Brexit.

Re: AFTER BREXIT
Truthfully, I am quietly impressed with Mrs May so far, LL. I am sure the various civil servants will be doing the actual real work behind the scenes, and I like the way she doesn't feel the need to give a running commentary on what they're doing on social media.
Time will tell how it all works out, of course, but so far, so good.....

I am sure you will all be glad to know that former Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls has moved onto fresh fields after his election defeat - though he doesn't seem to be awfully good at that, either.

Re: AFTER BREXIT
I notice assorted political pundits are going May supported Remain, but now she's leading Brexit, what a hypocrite!
I would suggest that it is an indication of just how low politics have sunk that they are failing to grasp that actually, Mrs May is doing what the voters of the UK asked her to do....an unusual concept nowadays.

Pound drops to lowest level since 1985 - and UK stocks soar
LONDON (AP) — The British pound has hit a 31-year low against the dollar amid concern the country is willing to break away definitively from the European Union's common market. But the country's stocks are loving it, with the main index closing in on a record high.
The pound's descent means the country is less well-off — anyone who goes on holiday to the United States or Europe would have less money to spend. As well as falling against the dollar, the pound is also at five-year lows against the euro, according to financial information provider FactSet.

Re: AFTER BREXIT
Yes, it seems to be a bit swings and roundabouts for now:
https://www.theguardian.com/business/2016/oct/04/britain-fastest-growing-g7-economy-imf-international-monetary-fund-brexit-vote
The International Monetary Fund has predicted the UK will be the fastest growing of the G7 leading industrial countries this year and accepted that its prediction of a post-Brexit-vote financial crash has proved overly pessimistic.
But while the Washington-based IMF said Britain would comfortably avoid recession with growth of 1.8% in 2016, it stuck to its view that the economy would eventually suffer from the shock EU referendum result and said expansion next year would be just 1.1% – lower than it expected in the immediate aftermath of the Brexit vote.
The IMF used its half-yearly world economic outlook (WEO) to warn not just about the impact of the referendum result on the UK and the wider eurozone economies, but also about the weak growth and uneven division of the fruits of growth that caused 52% of those who voted on 23 June to end Britain’s 43-year membership of the EU.

Turbulence ahead: UK Tories battle over soft or hard EU exit
BIRMINGHAM, England (AP) — In June, British voters decided to leave the European Union — without agreeing exactly where they were going, or how fast. This week Prime Minister Theresa May clarified the timeframe, saying she will trigger two years of formal exit talks before April. But members of her governing Conservative Party are wrestling over control of the steering wheel that will take Britain toward either a looser but still intertwined relationship with the bloc, or a dramatic "hard Brexit" with unknown consequences.

Re: AFTER BREXIT
Well, this is rather embarrassing for all those virtue-signalling politicians:
https://yougov.co.uk/news/2016/10/06/public-backs-plans-make-companies-say-how-many-for/
At the Conservative party conference this week, Home Secretary Amber Rudd announced plans to make firms publish what proportion of their workforce is non-British in a bid to encourage them to hire more British nationals. Although derided by many media commentators, new YouGov research finds that the policy is very popular across most of society.
Overall, 59% of people say they either strongly or somewhat support the proposals – more than double the 26% who somewhat or strongly oppose them.
Theresa May’s political strategy so far has been widely interpreted as an attempt to appeal to Labour voters. To that end this policy will be seen as a success, with a majority (51%) of Labour voters supporting the proposals.
The policy is also highly popular among UKIP and Conservative voters, with 86% and 73% respectively supporting it, whilst even amongst Lib Dem voters it is supported more than opposed by a decent margin (48% vs 37%). Only SNP voters aren’t in obvious support – and even they are split 46%/46% over the policy.
