Re: AFTER BREXIT
The utterances coming from eurocrats and others beggar belief, Lily - I don't think they have the slightest idea of the wave of anger that is building up.
It's like the arrogant folly of the Bourbons, all over again.

Re: AFTER BREXIT
http://news.sky.com/story/french-president-francois-hollande-will-not-run-for-second-term-10679419
France's Socialist president Francois Hollande has announced he will not seek a second term in office next year.
Mr Hollande is the most unpopular leader in the country's modern history following high unemployment and weak economic growth as well as security fears after a series of terror attacks.
It is the first time since 1958 that an incumbent French president has not sought re-election.
And his decision throws the selection of a Socialist candidate for next year's presidential race wide open.
In a televised address, Mr Hollande, 62, said: "I am aware today of the risk that going down a route that would not gather sufficient support would entail."
He said he decided against running again because he wanted to give the Socialists a chance to win "against conservatism and extremism"....etc.

The French political establishment is trying to stitch things up to keep Ms Le Pen out of the President's office.

Re: AFTER BREXIT
http://news.sky.com/story/lib-dem-sarah-olney-wins-richmond-park-by-election-10679630
he Liberal Democrats have won the by-election sparked by Zac Goldsmith's resignation over Heathrow Airport expansion.
Voters in the southwest London constituency of Richmond Park delivered a Brexit backlash against Prime Minister Theresa May, overturning a massive 23,000 Tory majority.
Sarah Olney won 20,510 votes, a majority of 1,872 over the pro-Brexit Mr Goldsmith, who won 18,638 votes standing as an independent.
I am not sure if very much can helpfully be read into this, as it is a bit of an odd constituency. And is also pretty rich.
There has been an ongoing row over Heathrow expansion, Goldsmith supported Leave but his voters didn't, because they didn't want their Latvian nannies sent home.
On top of that, he didn't stand as a Tory, so it's a peculiar one.
The new LibDem MP looks like a chipmonk:
And Labour lost its deposit.

Re: AFTER BREXIT
http://news.sky.com/story/lib-dems-vow-to-fight-hard-brexit-after-richmond-by-election-win-10680093
The Liberal Democrats have vowed to fight against a "hard Brexit" in the aftermath of the party's stunning victory in the Richmond Park by-election.
A buoyant Tim Farron, the Lib Dems' leader, said the Prime Minister must listen to calls to avoid a British exit from the EU that involves losing access to the single market.
It comes after Sarah Olney overturned a massive Tory majority of 23,000 to oust pro-Brexit Zac Goldsmith, who resigned in protest against Heathrow expansion and stood as an independent in the southwest London seat.
Oh, someone throw a bucket of cold water on Farron, please!
Olney won because, not for the first time, Goldsmith made a massive political error of judgement.
If Farron wants to present this as a victory for the Remoaners, then he needs to learn to count - that vote actually FELL from the referendum.
Oh, and Olney's victory was by the same margin as the Leave win. Perhaps they should all vote again?

Re: AFTER BREXIT
Leave.EU called Mr Farron a "sap" and suggested the Lib Dem leader needed a "psychiatric evaluation" if he believed the result represented a change in heart from voters about Brexit.
Spokesman Andy Wigmore said: "This changes nothing.
"If that sap Farron believes one europhile constituency in London changes the wishes of the 63% of constituencies which voted to leave, he needs to be sent for psychiatric evaluation."

If Germany and France do indeed end up having to spend the next fifty years apologising for the collapse of the EU, that will mean Germany has spent a century and a half apologising for trashing Europe....

Re: AFTER BREXIT
The Supreme Court's top judge has promised to be 'impartial' and issued a stark warning about online abuse as remain figurehead Gina Miller was flanked by a team of bodyguards today.
Mrs Miller, 51, says she has had death threats as she also jumped to the defence of the 'disgracefully vilified' judges who will decide on her Brexit battle this week.

Aw, didn't the nasty plebs bow down and thank her efforts to thwart a free, democratic vote at the behest of hedge funders and her chum Soros?
The arrogance of these people beggars belief.

Incidentally, if the learned judges want the plebs to respect the law, why hasn't he told Mrs Smug Rich off for not respecting democracy?

Oh, this isn't about any lofty principle; Mrs Smug Rich is an ally of the revolting George Soros, so it's only about power and $$$$$$ for her, behind her lofty protestations.
She refuses to accept the democratic votes of more than 17 million people = she deserves no respect herself.

So THAT'S why he needs an army! EU's Juncker predicts WW3 after Italian referendum result
JEAN-CLAUDE Juncker today used the result of the Italian referendum to predict that the rise of anti-EU parties will spark World War Three.
Fool seems to have forgotten who started the last two - must be drunk again. We should be OK as long as Merkel doesn't decide to invade Belgium or Poland.

Re: AFTER BREXIT
http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/14949576.Space_travel_from_Scotland_by_end_of_decade_as_Prestwick_secures_Nasa_tie_in/
IT is a new frontier for an airport better used to budget flights to the continent's beaches and city break getaways.
But space tourism from Scotland could be operational before the end of the decade, as the Government-owned Prestwick Airport ties up links with Nasa.
The Ayrshire airport has truck a deal with counterparts in Texas, which will see it benefit from expertise from the Houston Spaceport, one of 10 commercial space flight operations in the US.
A delegation from Houston and the Nasa-connected Rice Space Institute met with representatives from the Scottish space industry and local politicians, with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the various parties.
At Tuesday's event, Richard Jenner, Prestwick's spaceport director, said he hoped flights could be operational within three years.
He added: “We couldn’t wish for a more experienced partner than Houston. They have a long history of facilitating government funded launches and it is exciting to be embarking on the move to commercial space launches alongside them.
“This partnership will hopefully expedite the establishment of a spaceport at Prestwick.
“For us, the immediate focus will be working with our launch partners to provide lower cost access to space for the booming UK satellite and associated services industry in the UK and across the world. However, longer term, this partnership could develop in to a point to point for passenger travel using hyper sonic flight capability that will help to cut down journey times by a matter of hours.”
Our very own space port! It'll make a nice change for Prestwick from stag flights to Ibiza, and that bloke Trump that uses it for his private plane.
