Re: Gardening Thread.
I know..... can you imagine what the hot water was like?
Maybe it would be better to have a bath and put ice cubes in.
I am so aware of the dress code here but even now I am worried about next month when it will be off the thermometer.
It was hilarious in the building with all the smoke alarms going off - over 200 of them!
It just wasn't funny when all the electric went out and they did not have any safety lights in the stair area, which they are supposed to have by law. (Guess who will be complaining tomorrow?).
Bonny, it IS a different world. When you see camels down your street, and they are not in a zoo, you know something is well.....unusual.
Sabot, I honestly wish I could send you over some of this so that we could be at a compromise so you are not cold......

Can you send a couple of Camels? I love Camels, ever since I watched Lawrence of Arabia ten times. I see myself as a female Lawrence, galloping across a desert somewhere. None of this bloody Burka lark for me. Just one of them Arab scarves. But I've already got a couple of those, so just the Camels will do.

I'd love to send you some camels, Sabot. I wonder if you could send a photo so I could bargain with their owner?
Now you mention it, no slugs. But..... giant ants instead?

Are you trying to flog me to a Camel Trader? I've got to be worth more than two Camels. Make it a round dozen and I'll consider it.

Obama is worth 10, Hillary Clinton 2, according to some nutcase who has offered those rewards for capture/death of the two. LLSabot wrote:lily wrote:I'd love to send you some camels, Sabot. I wonder if you could send a photo so I could bargain with their owner?

I thought he offered six chickens for Hilary Clinton. That's a much more sensible price. Two Camels is too much.

Definitely said camels, but she's only worth two as she is a woman! LL

So, how much would Bill Clinton be worth? Or would they give the US camels to keep him?

The flowers look like buttercups, don't they, but the leaves and stems are different? Nope, it's a new one on me, LL.

I need a close up, but it might be St. John's Wort.

Think there are slight variations in different strains of St John's Wort?

Re: Gardening Thread.
It looks a bit like it, LL. But get a second opinion before you start making tea with it.
They grow a lot of it around here. It's called Millepertuis and also Hypericum. Good for stress and depression. Provided you are stressed and depressed. Me? I prefer to eat black grapes.

Re: Gardening Thread.
PS. St. John's Wort as a homeopathic or herbal remedy should never be taken with any traditional medicine. Although personally, I prefer herbal or homeopathic remedies. And you can actually have those prescribed by a Doctor here.

Re: Gardening Thread.
One of the few plants I thought I knew a fair bit about was St. John's Wort and one of the things I thought I knew best about it was that it always had five petals.
A friend in Florida taught me that wasn't true. There is at least one variety there which has four petals though in that case they are very open and don't overlap.
Something else I think I know for certain is that St. John's Wort leaves have tiny pinpricks in them (oil glands?) and that might help you identify it but then again maybe if some don't have five petals, others might not have the holes in the leaves.
All in all, that really does not help does it? LOL

Re: Gardening Thread.
I am baffled, LL. The flower is very like the pretty yellow poppies:
but the leaves are wrong. I hope it isn't a baby Triffid.
ETA, I've just realised, it doesn't have a seedhead in the middle, either, so scrub poppies.

I recognise the 'mille' bit but would never ever have known what 'pertuis' are. LOL

I was just being a smart arse. I looked it up once on Google. But it would identify the leaves.

Re: Gardening Thread.
From both the flower and the shape of the leaves I suspect it is a hypericum, just a rare variety with four petals. Probably the clincher would be if it had the perforations because I think most if not all varieties do.
