Why on earth did Remain think this was a good idea? I should think that the sight of a shower of spoiled, rich, socialist elites trying to stop a protest by people who actually work for a living has driven thousands more votes to Leave.

One can only assume Remain actually want to lose - the optics of this could scarcely be worse for them, and have summed up the whole divide between the elites and plebs who have to work for a living.
