Re: AFTER BREXIT
I suspect they live in leafy suburbs, or in the public/charity sector which makes a fortune out of immigration, Lily.

Incidentally, it's worth remembering that the major supermarkets suspect there are far more people in the UK than appear on the official census, simply by their volume of sales.

http://www.breitbart.com/london/2016/10/06/germanys-merkel-renews-warning-britain-immigration/
British Prime Minister Theresa May plans to formally trigger EU exit talks by the end of March, and appears prepared to prioritize immigration controls. Merkel said “they won’t be easy negotiations.”
She added: “If we don’t say that full access to the internal market is linked to full acceptance of the four fundamental freedoms, a process will spread in Europe in which everyone does what they want.”
So, if we don't kow-tow to Merkel, everyone will be free to do what they want?
I don't think she's thought this through.....

http://order-order.com/2016/10/06/snp-mp-gets-son-daughter-payroll/
Full troughing marks to SNP MP Corri Wilson, who has only been in Westminster for a year yet has managed to get both her son and daughter on the public payroll. She’s hired her wee bairns Kieran and Shannon as“personal assistants” on taxpayer-funded salaries of up to £34,000 each. A handy top up to mum’s £75,000 salary, sending the Wilson household income from the taxpayer well into six figures. No doubt a full, open interview process was carried out.
We'll be different, they said. We won't get our noses stuck in the trough in London, they said.

The SNP all seem to be taking the Ceaușescus as role models - it's incredible how far they have fallen in little more than a year.

Re: AFTER BREXIT
Long-term, I don't think they have much of a political future, Lily. Apart from the greed, they are now making a total mess of Scotland's domestic affairs, choosing instead to play at being world leaders.
Support for the SNP is slowly ebbing away, because people most certainly did not vote for this.

George Soros, the billionaire who 'broke' the Bank of England, wins big from Brexit.
The billionaire who predicted Brexit would bring about “Black Friday” and a crisis for the finances of ordinary people appears to have profited hugely from the UK’s surprise exit from the EU.
Not just him, Greed is universal. LL

He has reportedly made more than £220m personally as a result of the vote to leave.
Mr Odey, one of the richest men in the UK, told Reuters: “I think I may be the winner. I’ve had a pretty tough year.”
He is one of the richest men in the UK, with a personal fortune of £900m. In 2014 it was reported Mr Odey built a Romanesque stone temple to house his chickens.

Yup, greed and corruption is indeed universal, I am afraid - I wonder which speculator made $$$$$$$$ out of that odd blip in the £ this morning?

Re: AFTER BREXIT
http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/14787758.Future_of_NHS_24_in_doubt_as_crisis_hit_IT_project_costs_soar_by_73_/
THE future of Scotland’s NHS 24 telephone hotline has been cast into doubt as costs of its crisis-hit computer project soared by 73 per cent to £131 million, auditors have revealed.
New figures laying bare the spiralling cost of the IT system have come as it also emerged that the project will not be fully rolled out across Scotland until the end of next year - four years later than originally planned.
The call handling and IT system is now more than £55.2 million over budget. It was originally due to be ready for October 2013.
Costs have risen by £14 million in the last year alone, according to the Auditor General for Scotland, Caroline Gardner.
And for each month the system is not operational, is incurring £500,000 in additional costs.
Public finance watchdog Audit Scotland says the delays have created uncertainty over NHS 24’s sustainability.
The IT programme was due to be phased in for some services over the summer but with a national roll-out by the end of 2017.

Earlier this year, the planned June launch was pushed back to the "summer of 2016" after an issue that caused computer screens to appear blank.
It followed an earlier incident in which the system crashed and staff had to resort to pen and paper to deal with patient calls.
The programme was originally due to cost £75.8m and generate savings of £10m over 10 years...etc
Oh, it's only taxpayers' money! Toarie Austerity!!!!

The gentleman on Ms Sturgeon's right is a landlord in Govanhill; I wonder why nothing is being done about it....
PS - there's a nice little scam going on there - allegedly, of course! When these properties get so rundown they are uninhabitable, then some housing association whose name I have forgotten buys them off the slumlords who have created the problem in the first place.....

Re: AFTER BREXIT
With the fall of the pound, UK consumers are in for a shock
LONDON (AP) — Family business owners like Stephen Bowles say the timing of the pound's plunge couldn't be worse. The freight hauler, whose family business operates at Heathrow, Europe's largest airport, says a resulting five-pence per liter increase in the price of fuel for his 40-truck fleet will add as much as 50,000 pounds ($62,000) a year to his costs. Plus it comes as his trucks start to import goods for the Christmas holidays.
"It's the busiest time of the year," he said, adding that the extra cost will ultimately be reflected in higher prices for the goods he transports. "These costs have got to be passed on. They have got to be passed on now."
The pound has dropped more than 5 percent against the dollar since Oct. 2, when Prime Minister Theresa May announced plans to start formal talks on exiting the European Union by the end of March. Her rhetoric so far suggests the government will try to restrict the flow of EU immigrants, which may mean losing tariff-free access to the single market — a big blow to many British companies.

Re: AFTER BREXIT
Interesting, thanks, LL. It's all a bit swings and roundabouts just now, IMO, because the devaluation is good news for exports and the tourist trade.
I suspect it will all work out in the end, if only because there is so much money involved. IMO, the only flies in the ointment are the eurocrats, who seem to be more concerned with protecting their empires than with trade, etc.
Time will, as ever, tell.

Re: AFTER BREXIT
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2016/10/10/currency-guru-says-pound-slide-liberates-uk-from-malign-grip-of/
The slump in sterling is a blessing in disguise after years of overvaluation and helps to break the corrosive stranglehold of the financial elites over the British economy, according to a former bail-out chief for the International Monetary Fund.
“It is desirable from every point of view. The idea that Britain is in crisis or is on its knees before the exchange rate vigilantes is ludicrous,” said Ashoka Mody, the IMF’s former deputy-director for Europe and now at Princeton University.
“The UK economy is rebalancing amazingly well. It is a stunning achievement that a once-in-fifty-year event should have gone to smoothly,” he told the Telegraph....etc.
Another point of view.
