The latest is that he has confessed his guilt, but thern pleaded not guilty so as to ensure he gets an open trial in order to tell everyone why he wants this to continue and for Europe to be freed from all Muslims. LL

I was mystified how he managed to kill so many on the island without being tackled.
If it was any of the automatic assault weapons; then he had to buy it outside Norway as they have strict gun controls. I wonder who sold it to him?

An interesting comment by a Norwegian security person is that there is a thought that the bomb in Oslo was deliberately set so as to concentrate the police etc in the area, while the actual target, the kids on the island, could be slaughtered in comfort, ie no rush job which would explain why so much carnage could take place. If that is the case, then it succeeded. I see his father was a supporter of the Labour Party, also that the killer would appear to have had a very fractured and unhappy childhood/teens. LL

Yes, LL - I doubt if that is a coincidence.
Thing is, the island was in a lake in the countryside, even in the best of times, it would have taken the police a while to get there.
Imagine one of the lochs in the Highlands, there are similar small islands on them. It would be like trying to get a SWAT team from Glasgow...

If he had an extended magazine on the glock then it is possible he used it.

Oh, what a hero! The Norwegian police have just said Breivik surrendered two minutes after their SWAT team landed on the island.
And that act of supine cowardice also lessens the chances of him being seen as any kind of martyr.

I think he WANTED to be caught going by his insistance that he have a platform where he can state his case and reasons for what he did. It's a different attitude, you see, jihadists get 70 virgins, Lutherans don't, jihadists are doing it for Allah, Lutherans are not doing it for Jesus! And an open court where he can rant and rave his insane ideas to the greater public is, I think, probably more his style, most right-wing extremists DON'T want to die before they have made their insane beliefs known to the world. IMO, it is his choice of target that gives him away - there was no danger to him from a bunch of young people. Remember, he donned a police uniform so they would trust him - you cannot get much more cowardly than that.
Then, when the real police turned up and endangered his precious Aryan hide, he surrendered.

We don't know that yet, tony, the names haven't been released. But at least one person interviewed who was on that island had an arabic name. And two girls who also talked to a reporter definitely did not look Norwegian, brown skin, not black, dark eyes and hair. LL
