Gonc fails to make satisfactory offer to McCanns

I've watched it right now during the news at SIC. Although the video of Amaral coming out of the court seemed so very 'plastic', no supporters, no lawyer, no press interviews... Nobody.

A very telling comment, IMO. Mind you, hole-in-corner decisions tend not to attract much attention....

It was very much a Pyrric victory for Gonc, wasn't it? Things went downhill all the way after that.

With this decision, Gonçalo Amaral, who advocates the theory of participation of Gerry and Kate in their daughter's disappearance in May 2007 in Praia da Luz, Algarve, will also be able to give interviews in Portugal and abroad.

Didn't quite work out like that - he was persona non grata everywhere, afterwards.

Oh, except for Dear Julia's daytime telly couch, of course, on that TV station one of his cronies is involved with. And that interview with James Murray where he babbled about abductors and CCTV, neither of which were supposed to exist in Goncworld.

And how could we forget his triumph in his old school gym, at the PTA meeting?

Who knows, maybe a good few in Portugal smelled Rattus from that peculiar hearing as well?

Quite correct - if the defendant could ask for adjournment or suspension that would be ridiculous. The claimant must always have the whip hand, as it is the claimant who is bringing the action. The Claimants asking teh court for suspension of the proceedings while a settlement was explored has never been in question.

But to extend this to "the Mccanns are running scared and want to settle on Amarals terms" is equally stupid.

If they wanted to cease the action, they would do just that. Withdraw.

It is clear, if one applies an ounce of logic, that "Team amaral" asked if they could do a deal, The McCanns suspended proceedings to negotiate, an offer made, it was unacceptable so trial back on.

She has destroyed her own argument, actually. Or she has for anyone with half a brain. She has stated in effect that The Defendant can't apply for a suspension, but has to ask The Claimant to do it.

Just to repeat, in Very Big Letters:

in Portugal only the claimant can request an ajournment or suspension of a court case.

Which is a very different matter indeed from who blinked first. As we know, but many elsewhere seem unable to grasp.

Seriously, that....that.....stream of consciousness tribute to egotism and delusion has to be one of the funniest, and most pathetic, creations anyone has seen for many a long day. No-one's 'deconstructing' it because they are all too busy laughing at it.

Bet Clarrie wouldn't fall for an unsourced bit of WUM-mery from Portugal, and rush to post pictures of burned bread on the strength of it. But then, he's an amateur in many ways, unlike the incredibly-successful legend in his own lunchtime that is smiffy.

I can hardly bear to think of what Clarence Mitchell has survived in support of Kate and Gerry McCann. And never a vestige of retaliation for his own sake. This is a truly honourable man.

I don't understand why people here are criticising Blacksmith's postings. IMO, they are informative, interesting and give us an insight into the case. As to how he found out about the McCanns folding, that is true because a friend of mine got an email from a UK journalist asking if they knew anything about the rumour that the McCanns had folded and which was running rife around the newsdesks of most of the newspapers. This person didn't know anything BTW and was very surprised to hear about it. I wonder who leaked?

But it hasn't occurred to a single one of these investigative geniuses that there is only one WUM Source for this ridiculous tale? That it's the same person firing off all the emails, to journos and to them?

Which the McCanns' people did after that O Crime lawyer of Gonc's suggested talks. The terms offered were unacceptable so the libel trial is back on.

It's all perfectly logical and sensible. However, if deluded people choose to be taken in by some WUM, let's call him, oh, Luarte Devy, well, there's nothing we can do about it, is there?

Smiffy fell for it, IMO, because he was told what he wanted to hear, and his ego was being flattered because he thought he was being told Secret Things. Which led to much bombast and pics of burned bread.

And the moral is - if something seems to good to be true - it probably is. Smiffy even admitted he had no proper Source for this nonsense, which really should have set off alarm bells.

It was probably a bit of damage limitation by Team Gonc. Leak this tale to that prat Smiffy so he can spread it around.
Meanwhile, Gonc is saying rein de tout so it's nothing to do with him. He's not telling lies, No Siree.

All The McCanns had to do was drop the case and withdraw. But The Libel Trial is still on, so they aren't exactly saving themselves any hassle, are they.

1. Start a malicious rumour.

2. Give that Useful Idiot smiffy enough misinformation for him to back up malicious rumour you yourself have started, probably without said Useful Idiot's knowledge.

3. Sit back and watch the show.

The lack of anything resembling a verifiable Source really should have rung alarm bells, but instead, smiffy jumped on the misinformation like a dog on a juicy bone.

And he's never even met Gonc, by his own admission. Smiffy is not going to be a happy bunny when he realizes what they have done to him. But it won't be Gonc because he done said noffink.

Put not your trust in princes. Or convicted perjurers.

Google suggests that the cowardly lying thug called Hyland is now a fan of criminal gang leaders from the USA. I suppose that such a filthy lying thuggish person as Hyland (@LaffinAssasin) being interested in yet more criminal thuggish activity is only to be expected. We all know that Amaral lost that round and for the time being there was little more I could do to help, so my brief period manufacturing the news came to an end. But I'd learned my lessons and I'd learned enough about the methods of Team McCann to feel pretty sure that I'd be able to analyse whether the 2013 rumour was true or not before deciding whether to put it out. Always accepting, of course, that I might end up being wrong.
